geeogree : To use Star Wars: Rebellion vocabulary, Ren was more of a Jedi Student than an apprentice (Luke's rank before he goes to Dagobah). That may explain why he did not have the upper hand against Finn and got hurt. However he seems to master the basics of the Force (like that paralysis attack) pretty well if he is only an apprentice...

This movie was alright. I wouldn't say it was planet shattering or anything though. I think it would have been better to have more Cameron Poe-I mean...Dameron Poe and Finn scenes. Mainly because they haven't really interacted in the movie. But somehow they're all buddy-buddy.
Although I kind of like him more than Rey, who really doesn't do much other than get told that she's special, and that her parents left her behind. It is subtly hinted that her father is luke. As subtle as THIS! But anyway, she wasn't exactly the worst character. I wish she could have done more though. She really doesn't help anyone out until near the very end, where she gets a sudden boost in helpfulness.
Kylo Ren killing Han was a scene I was not thrilled for. Way to take one of the slickest, stylish characters ever written. The guy who survived goodness knows how much stuff. And just...Kill him with the most avoidable and predictable move ever. It's sad to see him go. And the noise I made when that happened was very similar to Chewie's.

Good luck Chewie, you're our only hope now. And hope rides alone.


geeogree : Honestly, the stormtrooper with that stun baton was my favorite character in this movie, save for Han and Chewie. Well...And C3PO. The fact he is still alive and perfectly fine here makes me believe he is the best robot ever built.

As for Rey, there's a lot of theories now that she's actually Obi wan's granddaughter

A user of this : Han killed himself.... his son didn't do it. Watch the scene again and you'll see what I mean. Kylo Ren asked Han to do something for him. Han says he will do anything. They hold the light sabre together and then Han turns it on and not Ren. You don't see that part but I'm pretty sure that is what happens. The main reason I think this is that Leia tells Han to do whatever it takes to bring their son home. If Ren kills Han then Ren turns to the dark side. If Han kills himself then Ren did what Snoke asked without having to actually do it himself. Ren can say Han is dead but it didn't take him to turn full to the dark side in order to do it.

Just a thought....

Also, Han Solo is in the 8th movie so this isn't the last we'll see of him.

zanderlex : I've read it several times over the last couple months. Obviously he's not going to be in the story going forward cause he should be dead but he could easily be involved in some flashbacks that help reveal some of the storyline of Kylo Ren and Luke.

geeogree : Huh. The only thing I heard about Han is his standalone movie, I never heard anything of him being in 8. That would be cool, though Ford said he doesn't want to be in any more movies.

The idea that Rey is Luke's daughter has been completely debunked because just on Friday, Abrams confirmed that Rey's parents weren't in Episode VII at all, so that takes Luke out of the question, as well as a few others.

Yeah, there goes all the fan theories about either Han and Leia or Luke and someone else being her parents. I wonder if she'll be any relation at all to them or if she is someone totally different. Part of me hopes she is separate from them so that we don't need to have the Skywalker legacy covering Star Wars forever. There are so many other interesting and important characters outside of the Skywalkers that are Jedi. Having her be from a totally different parentage would allow some more variety I think.

Darth Vader was not supposed to originally be Anakin Skywalker/Luke's father. So, anything can change between now and the end of the story.

Vanelan : I didn't think Lucas was involved anymore.... he sold Star Wars off to Disney and I'm pretty sure that his is done with it. While I agree that anything could change it definitely sounds like whoever the parents of Rey are they weren't supposed to be Luke or Leia and I'm happy about that the more I think about it.

I honestly hope to get more stories like Rogue One or other canonical items in the series. I'd rather get a more expanded universe that goes beyond what we've already seen become movies.

Time for full blown conspiracy/theory mode. I read up on a bunch of articles about Rey's parents after seeing the movie again today and some of the theories are oddly entertaining. The whole world has been ablaze about who her father could be, but rarely anything about her mother, but, what about the main character in Rouge One? Could she be Rey's mother?

The time period is about right and after watching the trailer dozens of times, I cam see some similarities between both of their traits and personalities.

I really liked the movie. I also really like how they presented the trailers beforehand, misleading everyone in quite a few ways, but not leaving us disappointed. Like most people I expected Finn to be the next Jedi, but now feel like Rey is the better choice. It seems to be that Rey and Finn will have a similar relationship as Luke and Han did. Who knows, they may try to play it in a romantic angle, but it doesn't seem likely, nor would I want it that way. I agree that Han Solo's death, albeit tragic, was kind of needed for the story. This era is meant to focus on the next generation, and a beloved character's death is a good plot device to give incentive to the good guys to stick it to the evil ones. And how he died plays an important role, being killed by his own son who turned to the dark side.
I'm curious to see if they give him a "Darth" title like they have previous Sith / Lords of the Dark Side (Darth Maul, Darth Vader, Darth Sidious), and what that title may be.

I have two questions for you. 1. How much did you enjoy this movie and why? 2. Do you think Snoke is a sith lord? 

Ultrajeff : I felt like this movie was an 8 or 9 out of 10 for me and a big reason why is because it felt like a traditional Star Wars movie again. The prequel trilogy I can separate in my mind as being so different because it represented a different era in the Star Wars universe where things were just different. The original trilogy and the new movies are post republic falling apart movies and therefore have a different feel to them. The prequels are still poorly made but I reconcile some of that to being different era movies.

As for Snoke - I don't see how he could be anything but a Sith Lord. However, the new trilogy might take the "dark side" in a different direction somehow. Hard to know at this point.
