About half a year ago, it was discovered that the Freemake Video Converter installer had a lot of nasty things in it.

So, today I found a program called HandBrake. It's made for Windows, Ubuntu, and Mac OSX. Open source so there's a lot of mirror downloads on the internet, but the one on the official website is always safe and legit.

I researched this program for a while, finding only one thing saying its a virus. (which was yahoo answers, full of inept people. the person who asked didn't specify what kind of program it was, and someone replied saying it was a fake anti-virus, so I disregarded it.)

And after a while, I decided to test it myself. The download is an installer, but it doesn't have any software offers or anything bad like that. I even scanned the file before installing it, and then scanned the entire folder after installation. (Avast)

I also scanned the videos after compression, and still no viruses found.

The 210 MB video turned into 1.82 MB, but the sound was crap so I turned the audio bitrate to max and then it sounded fine. Though it was 4.87 MB after turning the bitrate up.

Here's the download page.

https://handbrake.fr/downloads.php

And here's a test video of it that I uploaded to my youtube account

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pyz4MXceMlo

If people see that it works out well, then feel free to summon David to take a look at it.

Yeah, I've used it before, and it works much better than Freemake, from what I can tell. This would be a good replacement for Freemake.

all i can say is amazing! just look at this:

green - i the max frames rate (60fps) on a popular game called touhou 15.

red - MAX EVERYTHING, it took the whole day but as you can see its drastically cut down.

i never had any luck with freemake but now with this i can upload games that are super fast and lot of image.

I'm always confused about people saying Freemake didn't work. I've never had one issue with it personally and it's always worked well.

Sometimes weird video settings from the emulator itself messes with things, but overall it's been solid and always works fast and efficiently in cutting large files down.

Sure, it has some adware attached to it if you don't watch while downloading/installing the program, but honestly, that's common with many free programs.

That being said, I'm always looking to try out new programs, so I'll download this one and see how it compares.
