Request gaming challenges to me to try!
Obvious inspiration from TheJmsGamer is obvious. All credit for the idea goes to him.

TheJmsGamer : I might as well summon you, so you can return the favor if you want and give me some sort of silly challenge. Also to kind of once again give credit for your thread inspiring me to do something. I just couldn't resist doing one myself after seeing your thread.

No, unlike Jms's challenge, I won't be giving away a whole lot of Viz until I actually gain it. Although, with a very lengthy review on the way, that may be sooner than initially thought...

But I digress. Moving on.

Just like Jms's, I will do any challenge presented that isn't no damage/no death. However, unlike his, I will record (as opposed to stream in Jms's case; promised to cut it off for this semester in college) every attempt with full commentary and reaction (they will be uploaded to Vizzed). I will give myself three tries for platform challenges, and five for other genre challenges, unless the platform game challenge is of exceptional difficulty (in which I will give myself five attempts).

I focus on platform games, but don't be afraid to throw me a curve ball, especially if you have a neat idea. The more unique the challenge, the more fun it is for me! My only rule is that I won't do challenges for Playstation, N64, or Dreamcast, as unfortunately my laptop is not powerful enough to handle that emulation (I know, it's pretty bad. RIP me).

So, without further ado, let the challenges begin!

...Oh, and a quick side-note: Pirate bootleg challenges are allowed! I know this will turn into a masochistic heaven, but hey, I'm the one who asked for this!

Current challenges:

No warps/bonus rooms, deathless run in under 30 minutes - Super Mario Bros (NES)

Get all Chaos Emeralds (in seven rounds???) - Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (unspecified console)

Double warp whistle, enemy-less run (unless necessary) in under 15 minutes - Super Mario Bros 3 (NES)

No warp whistle, coin run challenge (self-imposed rule: World 7 fortress doesn't count) - Super Mario Bros 3 (NES)

Backward order boss run - Mega Man (NES)

Beat The Museum (Book 4) on hardest difficulty - Shining Force CD (Sega CD)

Deathless run - 3-D Battles of World Runner (NES)

Unlock the fourth floor - Super Metroid - Darkholme Hospital (SNES) - Look, my first hack on the list! Yay!

Play Ice Merps???

Beat any Fire Emblem game on hardest difficulty without losing a single party member - Game TBD

Successful challenges (with link to attempt):

Clear the first level - Little Nemo (NES) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjHXq5SqveY

Failed challenges (with link to best attempt):

None

What systems are allowed right now? Is PSX off limits? If not, I'm going to have a lot of fun with this. lol Until I know, I'll stick with N64 and under.

Challenge:
Little Nemo on NES. Clear the first level. I know it sounds simple, but I'll progress as we go.

Eirinn : Thanks for asking me that because it completely slipped my mind...

At the moment, I don't have the Playstation item, but even if I did, the PSX, N64, and Dreamcast are all just too hard for my current laptop to run. I might be able to if I wasn't recording, but a work laptop can only do so much...sorry. I'll update that info now.

How much do you wanna bet that I'm gonna fail even this with my natural "speed through EVERYTHING" mentality? You're gonna have a lot of fun watching me botch a lot of stuff, lol.

Eirinn : I'm so sorry for the extra long wait, but I've finally gotten back to you on this simple challenge. My apologies in advance for my trash talk of the game; it's clear from your review of it that you seem to enjoy it plenty, but I actually still don't see the real fun in the game, although I myself know that it's mostly for very personal and subjective reasons.

List of attempts:

Also, as you might notice, I decided to just post all of my attempts onto Vizzed's YouTube channel, as opposed to post successful ones onto my own channel, instead. I thought to do so because the videos are in the same format as my channel's videos, but I figured it'd be too much of an unnecessary hassle, with little reward overall.

Luigi442wii : Do you mind me practicing this challenge beforehand? While this is ten minutes short of the world record, those sorts of runs also take a tremendous amount of practice before actually being even close to successful (I should know, since I'm speedrunning Kirby and the Amazing Mirror).

How about beat Super Mario Bros 3 in under 15 minutes? (Can rise to 20 if it's too hard, but 15 seems like a good challenge) Of course, you can use warp whistles. However, there's a certain catch. You must not harm more than 1 enemy per stage (Unless mandatory).

(Can rework this challenge if it's just to hard, btw)

lordbelial669 : ???

That's not how it works in Sonic 2...or are you referring to the Master System version, the one I have no knowledge on whatsoever?

Sonic 2 for the MegaDrive grants a Chaos Emerald opportunity at every checkpoint you can pass, if you have 50 or more rings.

SWTerra :   I didn't know there was more than one Sega Genesis.  I will have to look up which one I have and get back to you, but yes, the one where you clear the stage with fifty or more rings and get the bonus stage.

Whew, suddenly I'm getting a good few challenges!

I'm still going to be about a week before I can set up for these challenges (especially the SMB warpless run), since I have my Finals coming up tomorrow. However, the good news is that I can potentially stream these challenges!

vizzy900 : Will you specify a coinage amount, or is this one of those open-ended challenges just to see how much I get (I don't mind either way, I just want to make sure you didn't forget to give me an amount to break)? Regardless, this will be an interesting challenge for me, since I'm far more used to running head-long into danger with a full head of steam. XD

lordbelial669: Well, there's only one Genesis/Megadrive, but Sega made another console before it for the 8-bit era known as the Master System, and there was a Sonic 2 on that console, as well.

However, after looking it up, you couldn't possibly be talking about that one. You have to be talking about the Genesis version. My problem is that gaining Chaos Emeralds in Sonic 2 on the Genesis works differently from Sonic 1. Instead of jumping into a giant ring at the end of the stage when you have 50 or more rings, you can instead jump into sparkling rings that appear over any checkpoint you run through, provided, once again, that you have 50 or more rings. Although your ring count becomes zero after attempting one of the Chaos Emerald challenges, all of the rings you collected also respawn once again, meaning that you can essentially use every checkpoint that exists within the game to try your hand at a Chaos Emerald. You can technically get all seven Chaos Emeralds as early as in the second Zone through this method.

janus : Given that I'm recording all of these, of course I'll have that proof!

Shining Force, correct me if I'm wrong, but that's an RPG, right? ...This'll be fun.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
