I just recently finished Crystalis for the NES and it was a great game.  I have played it many times just like the first few Final Fantasy Games.  I am looking for a good rpg and was hoping you guys could help with some suggestions.  I have played the original Phantasy Star games (first 4).  I have also played all the Final Fantasy games up till thirteen.  I do not have the disc system upgrades here on Vizzed yet, but working towards them, so something on the earlier systems would be great.  Some of the other games I have played are the original Zelda games for NES, SNES and N64, almost all of the Metroid games from NES and up, Suikoden one - three, though I have four and five, the first two Valkyrie Profile games for the PS and PS2, Mario RPG was awesome as well.  If anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear them and would greatly appreciate them.

    Thanks in advance,

If you have the Playstation item, then I would suggest checking out Guardian's Crusade. I have only played the game once in the past 15 years and it's still my favorite game of all time.

zanderlex :
Thank you for the recommendation.  I will check it out when I get the 50 thousand points for the PlayStation upgrade.  I have not played that one yet, so I look forward to it.  There were a lot of good rpg games for the PlayStation.  Xenosaga, Wild Arms, Final Fantasy 7 and 8, Lunar Silver Star Story, Suikoden I and II...the list is a long one

Ferdinand :   Ogre Battle is one of my all time favorites.  I went so far as to write my own walk through for it, where all the hidden items and towns are, how to get all the recruitable characters and zodiac stones.  Which places to fight first and how to get the alignment you want for your upgradeable units.  Really really fun game.  I will look into Starflight though.  I have not played that one.  Thank you for the recommendation

lordbelial669 : Getting the best ending on Ogre Battle isn't easy eh? I bought it for the PS nearly 20 years ago and I've played it through multiple times. I even bought the official strategy guide. Still have it. Every page is separated now I have it in a folder lol. I know I got it once though. Seems like something would always go wrong and the little girl(Posha?) would be gone when I went back or Tristian would be gone already. Have you ever played it through and recruited Deneb and Galf and still gotten the best ending? I think you can with Deneb. I'm not 100% sure about Galf though. I think you have to give him Brunhild and that might be an issue.

As far as I remember, you cannot get the best ending with either the witch or the demon, but I have never actually tried.  To get either, your reputation has to be sooo low, and yes, you have to give Galf the sword that finds the portals, so you wouldn't be able to recruit some of the guys that you need like Tristan and Debonair and maybe even one of their wives.  I have only had the best ending and the worst ending and nothing in between.  Have you ever gotten lucky enough to have more than 2 litch and 3 princess?  Both those unites are unstoppable end game, and you can always get one litch

And the secret game when you name your character fireseal.  That's pretty fun with all the best upgraded units.  I know there is a music name you can put in as well that lets you hear all the music

lordbelial669 : Yeah I have. I love to make main characters those classes too because they'll be colored differently. I just got two undead staffs at least on the same level I just played.(Organa) And I always find a dream crown or undead ring or two at random. I know I read online that you can recruit Deneb and still recover your reputation. Maybe getting Galf to join is too much.

Interesting.  I will have to restart and try getting Deneb, cause I really don't want to kill her.  I was playing Starflight for a few hours today, and not quite what I was looking for.  LOL...I kept crashing onto planets and took me a while how to re-fuel my ATV and figure out what minerals did what for repairs and fuel for the actual ship.  I do like it though.  I love games like the original warcraft and starcraft games that you have to base everything you do on the items you farm.  Have you ever played the Suikoden games?  The second one is one of the best games of all times.  Thanks again for the recommend on Starflight.  I will keep trying at it.  I like to play the game first time through with no help if I can, and I know that the early game systems were almost impossible to do so

Sounds like you like old-school RPGs.

On the SNES you should definitely try Lufia: The Fortress Of Doom, the Breath of Fire games, Emerald Dragon, and Ys V. The last one in that list doesn't have an english-language version on Vizzed, but it can be found online pretty easily. Also give Brave Battle Saga: Legend of the Magic Warrior on the Sega Genesis a try, that's probably the best RPG ever to come out of China.

Ogre Battle is great but waaay too heavy on strategy for me. I have the N64 cartridge and it destroys me every time I muster the courage to stick in the N64. One strategy game that I do like, though, is Yggdra Union on the GBA, so you might give that one a try.

The old ones were always the best, like Tecmo's Secret of the Stars.  Thank you for the recommendations, I can't wait to get started.  I have played and beaten Breath of Fire one through four, three being my favorite.  I have played Lufia: Rise of the Sinistrals.  That was a pretty good one as well.  Thank you again Zurenriri, if you can think of any more please keep me posted.

A lesser know RPG which I think is great is Terranigma.

Graphically, its very similar to Chrono Trigger/Secret of Mana.
Its in the Action RPG genre...so it plays much like Secret of Mana.

If you are a fan of tactical RPGs such as Final Fantasy Tactics, Tactics Ogre is a great game (I personally think its better than FFT)

As for classic style RPGs, nothing beats the Dragon Quest/Dragon Warrior series.
They do get a bit grindy at points, but still great games. :3

I'd highly recommend playing the Golden Sun games. There are 2 for the GBA that you can play right here on vizzed. They are 2 of my favorite games on the GBA. I'd actually say that The Lost Age is my favorite game ever made for the GBA. I'd recommend playing the original Golden Sun first though, since The Lost Age is a direct sequel.

If you like tactical RPGs and futuristic yet contemporary themes, I highly recommend Front Mission 3. I do not know how it compares to the first two,but all I know is that this game probably has the best scenario of all the games I have played in my life. It talks about genetic engineering... at a time during which I was reading Aldous Huxley's Brave New World for a philosophy class. I even remember talking about the game in my final essay for the class, making comparisons with Huxley's book.

The game can take time to master - you have long-range and melee weapons, which can cause unpleasant surprises when you first get them - but its story (and music too) will hook you until the end. Oh and there are two distinct endings, based on a single happening at the very beginning.

A rarely thought of RPG is Medabots Rokusho or Medabots Metabee ver. for the GBA. Mind you, they have a sort of action Medabots game called "Medabots AX" with both version names so do not confuse them. But for a decent challenging game with a lot of fun and nostalgia, go for Medabots. It definitely gave me a lot of hours of fun.

The breath of fire series is pretty good, I'd recommend all 4. Although 1 and 4 were my favorites.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
