o.O i'm confused. last i checked, saga and final fantasy were 2 entirely different rpg franchises (heck, the only similarity between the 2 might just be the genre). i've played games from both before and granted saga's setup in general tends to not be to my liking all that often, i feel compelled to give this a try...after i figure out if this is a saga game OR a final fantasy title so i'll at the very least know which game type to look forward to.

if the title is a result of the translation alone then i feel as if the translators were blind when looking at the title screen with the title SAGA in huge letters.

edit: dammit Nintendo of america! that's why this translation has both final fantasy AND saga in the title!

http://www.romhacking.net/translations/1614/

"This is a remake of Square’s first game in the long-spanning SaGa series. The three that were released in Japan were released in the States under the name Final Fantasy Legend. So, this is a remake of Final Fantasy Legend."

this is the first SAGA game but nintendo of america apparently went and pulled another idiotic move and renamed it as FF Legends (remember how FFIV got renamed FFII?).

so to anyone else who chooses to try this game and is confused. it isn't a final fantasy title at all. it's just the first saga game.

Yeah, I'm not sure why those games were called Final Fantasy Legend either. They aren't really Final Fantasy like you said, they're SaGa games. It's weird but at the same time, the Final Fantasy Legend games are still really good.

yeah, seems it might've been one of those uncommon cases like the FFII/FFIV and FFIII/FFVI title translation mix ups. don't know why the fan translators decided to go with both titles on this. it just makes it confusing as to which game it really is.

That's a pretty interesting find.

I actually never even heard of SaGa, but I'm pretty sure I would have figured out quickly that it wasn't "Final Fantasy Legend."

I guess Nintendo of America just really likes to play mind games with us. (Seems like naming something really shouldn't be that difficult, but hey. We'll give them the benefit of the doubt.)

yeah...SaGa games tend to have some interesting combat/stat/skill/etc. systems. basically, if you want to unlock more skills for a character...melee for example, you'd have to use the special moves, like martial arts, frequently. this would unlock new skills and in doing so raise stats related to those moves. this in turn would cause enemies in battle to grow stronger as well.

o.O iirc the snes games, Romancing SaGa, also had some tactics battles too where you'd control armies to do battle.

overall though, the SaGa franchise just isn't really to my liking (not sure of any reason in particular. just something about those games doesn't suit me quite right.). i tried and i think got fairly far in a NDS SaGa game that got translated (might try it again) but in the end it still didn't feel quite right to me overall.

i mean, i like how the combat/training system sounds but in practice... :/ it just doesn't work well for me.
