This is a notification that moderator applications will be coming soon. With school back in session there are certain moderators that know they won't have the time to contribute to the site to the extent that they wish they could so they are stepping down.

This leaves some openings on the staff (3-4 by my estimates but that could go up) and I need to start getting them filled up. The application is not open yet but you can find the previous version and look at it and even start getting ready.

Also, let everyone know about this because at the end of the globals+ can't agree on who to pick for the 3rd/4th/5th mods then we will consider using the moderator election as a way to pick the final mod to get us up to 12 again. This means that even if you don't get picked by the staff that you also have a chance to get picked by the board in general. That's 2 different changes to get picked this time around.

So pass this information along if you or anyone you know would like to be a mod. I'll open this thread and probably post an announcement when the applications are officially open which should happen within the next week.

Please read and follow all instructions in this post. Send your completed applications to the Global Moderators' inbox. https://www.vizzed.com/boards/sendprivate.php?userid=35243 Please do not send applications to moderators, individual global moderators, or Davideo7.

THIS IS NOT AN EXCUSE TO FLOOD THE MODERATORS' INBOXES WITH REPORTS

Before you read ANY further. I want you to read the requirements. I will explain why we have each of the requirements below. If you don't meet one of the requirements, don't be surprised if you aren't picked.

-Age: 16+
-100+ posts a month and 300 CP
-Log on at least 3 days a week on average

Why do we require our locals at 16+?

It's simply a matter of maturity. We've had 13-15 year old mods who have worked out in the past but more often than not they don't. We are striving to have the best mods we can find and if you aren't 16 or older your application won't be considered.

Why do we require 100+ posts a month and 300 CP?

This is just a matter of activity. We need to know we can count on you to be active on the forums. As the mod manager, I watch posting and CP closely. If you miss the quota on a regular basis then you are likely to be demoted. If you don't think you can meet this quota then don't apply.

Why do we require 3 days a week of activity?

Again, it's simply a matter of activity. We need to know we can count on you being active as a moderator. If you only show up once a week you miss seeing things the other 6 days. We don't expect you to spend all your time on Vizzed but this is a commitment that we expect to take up several hours a week.

Also, please have the courtesy to leave the questions on the app, and bold them to make it easier to distinguish where the question ends and your answer begins. This isn't necessary but it does show ability to follow directions and attention to detail.

-----------------

If you read all the above, and understand, please state that you understand.

Do you have past experience as a moderator? If so, where and for how long?

How often are you online, and therefore, able to mod?

What do you think the qualities of a good moderator are?

If you could make one change to the forum (ignoring the RGR) what would that be?

What types of posts do you think are spammy? Give an example if that helps.

One of your fellow moderators disagrees with you or criticizes you in some way, what do you think is the best way to deal with this?

Which of the following ranks should be shown the highest degree of respect: newbie, trusted member, local moderator? Explain your reasoning.

What do you have to offer as a moderator? (this is a very open ended question - talk yourself up here)

Just an FYI - currently there are only 17 people who are posting over 100 times in the last 30 days. Half of those are current local mods or higher.

If you really want to help your chances it might be worthwhile to start posting on a more regular basis so your last 30 days are closer to 100.

So far we only have 7 applications for 3 or 4 possible spots which means there is still a really good chance of getting a spot.

If you weren't sure about whether or not to apply you are better off applying than not. Applying this time around doesn't change your chances next time around.

geeogree : Would it be possible to do this in shifts? Like Moderator group 1 handles first shift from midnight to six then moderator group two handles shift two from six to noon then moderator group three handles third shift from noon to six with moderator group four on fourth sift handling the mod duties from 6 to midnight.

Doing it this way will allow more people to apply and will lessen the amount of people that have to leave due to schedule conflicts as they can pick a shift that works with their schedule. There would only be three people per shift group as twelve people divided by four shifts would equal three people per shift group.

I would definitely apply if it was done this way. The best part is if a Mod in one shift group is not able to come in for mod duties then a mod from another shift group can fill in for them if needed. I don't think it would be worth implementing this right now but maybe during the next time mod apps open unless you think it's important to put this in right now.

$$$$ : The only way that something like that could possibly work is if people from other countries were picked, because they would most likely be awake when the rest of the board is asleep, but that would limit everyone and it would force most people to be on, even when they can't. Having it so that people can fill in for others would be exactly the same as just letting everyone mod at the same time and this would result in a dozen or more mods, meaning most of the mods would be underqualified.

$$$$ : that only would make sense if Vizzed was more international with its membership.

As it stands the vast majority of members are North American. It makes sense to pick mostly North American mods. We have had (and currently have) some non-North American mods that cover different time zones but not specifically for that reason.

geeogree : I just figure I would suggest this since it can allow people to mod without having to step down. Zanderlex: What if the people from the other timezones have schedule conflicts? The 3rd and 4th shifts are more aimed at people who can't mod during the day but can during one of those shifts.

If the site were more active than it is right now I might consider this but as it is we don't need shift modding. That is a bit excessive for how busy things are.

I would also like to add that some mods no matter their time zone have different schedules. Like me for instance... I work morning and night shifts because of the type of job I have or even people like mrfe because he has the same type of job as me and that means that we are on sometimes during the morning and some days we can't get on until night... it all depends on our schedules so even if vizzed was more 'international' this would be a bit hard for me at the most to just pick a shift. I would need to pick two shifts. Night and morning because I never know when I'm going to be able to get on. It depends on my work schedule. Either way I can get on everyday but it could be morning and it could be night is what I'm getting at.

1 more day to apply to become a local mod on Vizzed.

I will be closing the applications sometime late on Saturday night. Not sure the exact time but it'll be as close to midnight as I can get. Just depends on how late I stay up

Applications are now closed.

I have created the discussion/voting thread for the people who have applied. The global+ group is now reviewing applications and discussing/voting on the new people.

If we can't agree on the required number of new mods then we will hold a mod election where the general membership will be allowed to vote. So, be aware that that might be coming soon too.
