I recently deleted Warframe from my PS4, and if you're actually wondering why, we'll it's because it pulls the freemium crap. I will admit that I had fun with the game with the few days that I actually owned it. I enjoyed the diverse mission structure of the game, and the mods you can equip on your warframe and their weapons to boost their capabilities. I also like that you can unlock almost every essential piece of the game through in-game currency and crafting. However, that is a lot of free to play games start to flatter, where you're forced to grind for resources on various then wait for X amount of hours to get the thing you want. What's worse though is that certain resources are in locked off regions, which can only be unlocked by defeated a boss. But wait you have to have a mastery rank of five to unlock boss missions. How do raise your mastery rank you ask? Well, you go to your profile icon to see if you qualify, but if you don't just do more grinding to get enough points to qualify. Oh wait, you can only take the rank up test every 24 hours, and failing a test means also waiting 24 hours. Now, I could have been submissive to game and just payed money to buy everything, but I said no, I am sick of free to play games doing to this kind of crap. Traditional gamers like myself are forced to grind and wait through timers for days to get thing we want. Then, there are those that just outright buy all of their stuff because they're sick of the grind and want to play with friend who have cool stuff. Well, to me those people are no better than cheaters. I consider it sad in gaming today that you can just pay money to make your character better. That doesn't matter in a single player game, but in multiplayer that sort of thing isn't any better than cheating to me. Now, I am fine with microtranscations in games as long as they don't get in the way, and if the progression in the game fast enough. But games like Warframe make progression slow enough that you just want to submit and pay the money to unlock stuff automatically. Too many so called "Free to Play" games pull this "dangling a slab of meat in front of a starving person" in order to make people submit and throw their money at the game. I understand needing to pay for the game's continued support, but I think making progression in the game so slow to eventually make people use those microtranscations is just wrong. Now, there are the rare Free to Play that have microtranscations for just cosmetics not equipment, and the in game progression is smooth. An example of that sort of game would be Path of Exile, a game where I was able to get to Act III without feeling that I had to pay money to progress fast enough unlike say Warframe. Now, how about you good folks tell me your woeful tales of freemium

That sucks, man. Freemium (or pay to win games, which I prefer), are quite a nasty scam, and it's a shame how they're seeping into every facet of gaming.

Thankfully, my experience with such games is limited- once I was addicted to a mobile game about an assassin (I can't remember the name). To beat the harder levels I needed better gear, but the only way to get this gear without days of grinding was if you coughed up some dough. So I payed $20. I got the gear but the levels weren't much easier. At that point, I simply stopped playing the game.

Again, I'm fortunate enough to have stopped so soon. I hear of these people paying tens of thousands for these "games" and I feel a bit bad. Sure, there's personal responsibility involved, but there's also the fact that companies are leeching off of those less weary. I just hope the spread from casual games is blunted or even stopped before it's too late.

Boxia : I feel not sorry for those people that are still being suckered by the mobile gaming market. What's worse still is that Konami (and probably other publishers) said that mobile gaming is future, but I say if that is the future then it is a dystopian future. So Fudge Komai (see what I did there? I censored myself).

When I was younger, I liked playing on my mother's iPhone while she did the shopping and whatnot. The biggest problem was finding a game that was 1. decently fun and 2. not freemium. I swear, I must've ended up downloading at least two or three games that were literally exactly the same thing, but with a new coat of paint and a different money sink. I'd rather pay $60 and get a full game than pay nothing and get a game constantly asking me for extra cash. Pay if you want to play more than a little while per day. Pay if you don't want to wait hours or even days to progress in-game. Pay if you want characters and equipment that don't suck. It just goes on and on and on. It makes the publishers tons of money, but it's a scummy business practice that needs to die.

NovemberJoy : Mobile games are really money vacuums that sends your cash into a fiery wormhole to hell, where it is used to wipe Mammon's butt as he craps out crappy mobile games for his servants to make.

Meh, I personally don't mind them, they still waste away your time like any game. I don't mind coming on, playing for a bit until I can't anymore, and then just moving on to another one. If that was the only game I had, or I was really intent on sitting through the same game for hours at a time, then id be mad, but I don't mind.

I totally agree, and the worst cases are in RPGs. PSO servers like SCHT & Ultima were/are bad for this.
It wouldn't be as bad if Items were reasonably priced, but on SCHT people would spend $90
for a max stat Dark Flow, then run around ninja'ing noobs items under the veil of "helping lvl"
and pretend they earned that weapon... To earn a Dark Flow legit you'd have to run "RT" 1 to
64 times (Best odds which requires a certain section ID, as some have no chance at all of
finding the parts for 1) to find a "PGF", then you have to hunt a decent large sword to use the
"PGF" on which is never guaranteed... Once you do that you may end with a +50% hit Dark Flow,
and if your lucky it might have %s on 2 other stats... Then you have to hunt 99 "PD"s to raise one
of those stats by 30%... Lucky people find maybe 2-3 "PD"s in a day... Assuming you got extremely
lucky and found a large sword w/ 2 "40%s and that 50% hit, you'd have to collect 99 "PD"s 4 times
to make the Dark Flow "perfect"... If you collect 2 "PD"s a day (which most people don't), it would take
6-7 months just to buy the extra '%s... That excludes the "PGF" hunt time and the large sword hunting...
People valued a "PGF" at 2,500 "PD"s too, which is more than 1 character can even hold so trading
for one is pretty much off the table for new players. Not to mention that when the mods of SCHT noticed
people running "RT" quests for said "PGF"s they disabled quest drops for like a month, which forced
people to pay money for them or give up all together hunting it.

*Rages for a minute* Greed makes me sick. >=( ...Sry for ranting y'all. >.<

b.tokin : Wow...now THAT's the kind of thing that would never pass today. Can you imagine if there was something in World of Warcraft that was like that? The backlash would be felt throughout the Internet! Thankfully, standards have risen and people don't stand for money-grubbing crap like that. It's the same reason Everquest is pretty much dead now.

I am slowly learning how silly todays games are! You all are fully aware that many of these games have this AMAZING thing called, "Achievements" where you get things like elixer, gold, and even gems in my clash of clans, all the way up to where I got my third and fourth builders in the game WIAThOUAt buying a thing. You got it. With a thing called patience that the average person ain't got, I hoarded my "gems" and claimed whats mine! See, thanks to todays happy go lucky console gaming where you just get handed most victories and items, FREEMIUM kinda makes you work for it, or yes...buy it! So, if you ain't got the skills, or time, you gotta jack mama or papas card and get some help. Imagine if you spent 30 days collecting stuff and didn't spend your high items, (Gem like items) how many you'd have. Enough that buying would be a moot point! Freemium isn't a ripoff. The average gamer is just plain stupid no offense.

I've actually got a Masters in a study called Gameification that is all about suckering money out of people and the construct of the video game market and how it's evolved over time, we use it to market video games, videos, new products such as music, movies, phones, or team building in a fun new way.

One of the subject matters you review in your first year is actually the mobile market and that whoever designed it was a genius, cause it's a no-money-out, all-money-in scheme, cause all you have to do is pay for an artist to create all the item avatars and designers to make a game, but once you do that the implementation of leader boards, achievements, competitive play are all things that force your player base to want to do better and do things they wouldn't normally do, so you put that behind a light pay wall and companies have found that people will actually pay force themselves ahead of the pack for 'bragging rights', or other various goodies and it costs that company nothing cause the items and services they provide don't actually exist on a physical level, so they do nothing but make money from everyone playing.
