Often times, we don't want to get up even if we've had enough sleep (enough sleep is 8 hours). Then sometimes we sleep some more hours and get 11+ hours of sleep! (unless we have school or work) And sometimes we don't get enough sleep but we still get up. (especially if we have school or work)

When you sleep for too long or too little, does it affect your day or your mood?

I try to prevent myself from sleeping too long, no matter how exhausted I feel. For me, sleeping for 10 or more hours results in me being crabby for a large chunk of the day. Yet if I don't get enough sleep, I have less trouble with being cranky

The way my brain and eyes work is pretty weird: if I don't get enough sleep, I easily become wide awake after I get up and start getting ready. If I get too much sleep, I'm tired for quite a while after I get up. I guess I'm used to not getting enough sleep, which makes sense to me.

Last year, during the school weeks I would almost
never get enough sleep before I had to get up before school, and after a while I got used to it and I wasn't tired during the day unless I was bored.

Haha I'm the opposite if I don't get enough sleep my mood is not good tho if I get plenty my day usually goes good. Interesting thread by the way. I mean I can sleep 12 hours and be ready to go but sleep 8 and feel terrible. Partly because of my medication though.

Bintsy: I used to be that way, but ever since I've started getting used to struggling to get enough sleep each night I've been the way I am now. There are few nights where I can get 8+ hours of sleep since I keep waking up several times in the middle of the night. Then when I can get 8 hours of sleep, I usually go over it and get 10, making me cranky. Ugh XD

Yeah, medication can make you pretty sleepy. Most of the time my mom takes medication (usually pain meds such as Motrin) she gets sleepy, goes to bed early in the night, and sleeps a lot until she has to get up. I'm not the same way though, there are few things that make me sleepy

Over sleeping usually results in having pains all over my body. While sleeping for a short amount of time results in me being upset. So It's a lose-lose situation for me.

There is times where it doesn't matter how long I slept for and what time I go to bed, it all comes out the same results, I tell myself, I do I have to get up. One time, I tried sleeping for 6 hours, and another time for 9 hours and both resulted in the same thing, too tired. So, no matter if I sleep too much or too little, I always get the same result. No one has a perfect sleep time.

Not sure on what causes this though, maybe my mind has a mind of it's own.

Final Weapon : Whoa, that's weird. I didn't know over-sleeping could ever cause pains for anyone. I'm usually pretty upset when I get a short amount of sleep as well, because I want more.

Hmm.....thats a good question but I do have to go with Laura. I don't mind if I sleep less because it depends on what I am dreaming about. If I have started the dream and ended it how I want I wake up with a big smile on my face feeling that I had the best sleep ever. And without pain as well. So it depends for me.

TristanTehGamer1 : I think a ton of people can relate to you when it comes to that XD Sometimes no amount of sleep feels like enough, even if it's 11+ hours.

Koda : That's insane I wouldn't be able to stand sleeping for that long. I always feel like I have so much to accomplish in a day, and I can barely even stand sleeping 10 hours. I usually want just enough sleep so I can feel refreshed and be up until I have to go to bed.

When I go to be super late like 2 in the morning, I get very tired the next day and it sometimes effects me pretty badly. I really need to stop doing that, but I keep doing it because there's stuff that I want to do and it takes longer than I thought it would.

Koda :   I want to say "Lucky you" because my biological clock ticks so loudly that I can barely sleep more than 8 hours, even when I am exhausted.

PacmanandMariofan : Yes, lack of sleep (I do not think I ever got "too much) affects my mood terribly, especially when it is caused by too much heat or noise (or both, when I am in The Dominican Republic for example). I get very cranky until I can sleep some more.

Sleeping doesn't really affect my day other than the first few hours I'm awake.

I have days where I'll sleep like a princess and just want everything to go how I want it to go. Nothing feels better than to wake up in a warm bed and slowly but surely get ready for the day.

On other days there will be that one car that has its windows down and you can hear the music all the way in your bedroom. That seriously stinks because I can not fall back asleep once I wake up.

Then at around 1PM I'll slowly turn out of princess mode or my mood will slowly return to normal.

Kyana : It's weird, I have the opposite. My sleep usually doesn't affect me until I've been awake for several hours. Unfortunately, I often don't get to experience the nice feeling of waking up in a warm bed since my room gets much colder overnight, making me freeze with even a blanket on. However, when I go to sleep my room is usually hot.

PacmanandMariofan : Really? That's so weird (but weird in a good way, like unique but weird).

It's literally the exact opposite here. Our evenings are incredibly cold (at least in my opinion) but our mornings tend to be alright. Maybe the fact that I keep my window shut while I sleep is part of the reason why my room and bed are always nice and warm.

You're the first person I've met / talked to online who is literally the opposite of myself :p

I find sleeping to be a funny subject for me. My biological clock must hate me, because my sleeping schedule varies widely.

I sometimes sleep for less than 6 hours, which is usually not bad. It doesn't seem to affect me throughout the day, but I will demand a nap after about 10-12 hours of being awake with that amount of sleep. On the flip side of the coin, when I sleep for 10+ hours, which is almost every weekend day other than for Eagles games during football season, I usually wake up tired. When I oversleep, I seem to take about 2 naps a day, but my overall attitude isn't anything mean.

When I get recommended sleep, which is about 7 1/2 - 8 1/2 hours of sleep, I seem to function at the same rate as the others ones. The key difference here being that I don't seem to require a nap at all throughout the day in opposition of the other alternatives.

I will say that I feel more aware and able to do critical thinking If I sleep less than 9 hours though. Even if it's a 5 hour sleep period, I still function better in critical situations than I do if I slept 10+ hours a day.

It's weird that so many people react so differently to similar situations. Weird, yet fascinating.

Kyana : Lol wow. I keep my windows shut too, but I still have the problem of my room getting cold overnight. I think your situation is more normal. Where I live, we often have weird weather XD In fact, sometimes we get winter temperatures at the end of October!

Despite my room having great changes in temperature, it doesn't affect my sleep much. I only wake up once in the middle of the night when the temperature dips down. I'm only awake for a few minutes because all I have to do is pull my blanket on for me to fall back asleep. Since my room is hot when I go to bed, I don't originally have the blanket on.

Skilledtree : I agree, it's interesting that we have a variation of reactions to the exact same situations. I usually function better with less than 10 hours of sleep as well.
