If there's any other fans who like the Sherlock Holmes movie, then this news is something you really want to here, and it's something that I myself have been waiting for the last four year now. Ever since the 2nd movie came out back in 2011, it was always known that there was going to be a 3rd movie in the stellar series but because of Robert Downey Jr being busy with Iron Man (Made 3 movies since then) and the fact that they didn't have a script or a writer, there was no idea when the movie was going to come out.

That all change now because of this past week, it has finally been officially confirmed that production of the 3rd movie has begun and it's been said that the movie could come out as early as next year. The only problem with this is that Jude Law hasn't been approached yet to return to his role as Dr. Watson but everything else has now been set in motion. Do you have any thoughts on the movie and its long awaited return?

This is pretty cool I guess, I've always liked Sherlock Holmes the character and I remember watching A game of shadows a little while after it came out and really enjoying it, hopefully it'll end up turning out as well as the first two movies. Now I don't really know if it needed another movie in the franchise even if it was something that was planned for some time but I'm prepared to give it a chance at least.

Zlinqx : I'm not actually that much of a fan of the character in general, I never saw any of the other movies or shows and I had never even fully read any of the books, all I had seen was the Downey Jr movies which is what really got me into Sherlock Holmes.

I liked the RDJ Sherlock Holmes movies! I'm really glad to hear they are making a third one. Robert Downy Jr did really well as Sherlock. I liked those movies a bit more than the TV Series BBC was doing at almost the same time the first movie came out. lol

Anyway, I can almost guarantee that I'll be seeing this in theaters. Or at least...opening day of it's DVD release.

I wonder what the character limit on this thing is.

A user of this : I was doing some research and just yesterday the script was being worked on so they say it could come out really soon after all.

I will never understand why you would have an American play Sherlock Holmes. I'm not saying I dislike Robert Downey Jr. but this is Sherlock Holmes!

However, I seem to be in the minority of opinions on this one.... at least according to this thread.

I have watched both Sherlock (the BBC one) and Elementary (the American one) TV shows and each one has a British guy playing Sherlock and it just feels more natural to me.

geeogree : I'm going to keep this short because my battery died while I was typing up something huge.

His personality matches the character really well, not just his own, but the personality of some other characters so his acting was able to flow well, plus because of iron man, he was really the hottest actor in Hollywood at the time probably alongside Daniel Craig. They could have easily gone with someone who would fit the description better, but in all honesty, a lot would have been lost because you could have an actor that wouldn't match as well and you wouldn't have the fan base behind such a well known actor. It ended up being a win win for both the company and fans. Not based on who he is but what he was at the time, and still is.

... I own and have read all 4 novels and 56 short stories, and have seen countless movies and television series, so, yeah, I'm excited! I loved all the comedy and action from the previous RDJ movies, and I think Jude Law makes an excellent Watson. He still has that kind of youthfulness, but he also has that sick and tired from everything Holmes forces him to do, but would still take a bullet for him, kind of character. It's fun to watch.

I'm definitely going to watch it when it comes out. I absolutely loved Moriarty's plan in the second movie. Absolutely brilliant. (Don't really want to spoil it for people who haven't seen it. I also don't know how to use those Spoiler Alert things. XD)

The Moriarty from the book was... Really bad, so I like it when movies make him exactly what he's supposed to be, a Sherlock Holmes gone bad. My most favorite incarnation of Moriarty was the one from the BBC Series, Sherlock. Best Moriarty ever (In my opinion), although I love the Elementary show much, much better (Lucy Liu as Joan Watson!?! Awesome!).

Woah, I got off topic... Sorry! XD

zanderlex : Oh, man. I just noticed your question, I haven't been inactive, I'm on every day, it was just the summoned failed and I only just now checked this thread again. But, yes, I was talking about Sherlock, where he jumps off the roof. Sorry for the month-late response.

zanderlex : The season premiere after that cliffhanger episode is definitely worth watching. The whole thing is about people making up numerous theories as to what really happens, it was pretty funny. They also did an interesting take on the Hound of the Baskervilles.

zanderlex : Yeah, it's definitely not one of my favorites, I didn't like Benedict Cumberbatch at first, but he grew on me as I watched more episodes. To me, Elementary is the best Sherlock Holmes adaptation I've seen. I also love how he starts out flawed, and you actually see character growth. Most other adaptations have Sherlock as an already established character, no growth, and have him solve strange cases. That's where Elementary is different. And that's why I love it. I did also enjoy how they made Watson a woman, Lucy Liu as Joan Watson. It's weird at first, but it really does work.

F. Starr : I actually really like Cumberbatch a lot in general. I never saw Elemntary either. The one with Downey is what really got me into Sherlock Holmes.
