I'm really shocked at how bad all of the reviews were for this movie. It seems that nobody who has a say in movies liked it, at one point the rating for the movie on Rotten Tomatoes was a dead 0 percent and now it sits below 20 percent which could rank it as one of the worst big movies of the year. I don't get any if that though, I really liked the movie and thought it was really well done. In terms of comedy, the movie was gold, one of the funniest movies that I have ever seen up there with the 2nd Anchorman movie. The movie was unique too, because one of the main characters was actually the president and that's not something that you see in movies often. Also, it's not every day that you see a president in any movie that's that funny as he was played by Kevin James. The movie was never boring, sure the story could have been a bit better but when you are talking about video games, there isn't that much for you to work with and when it comes to the other aspects of the movie such as comedy, graphics, music, and plain coolness, the movie was amazing. I was thoroughly entertained the entire time I was watching it from the very first second and I do plan on watching it again when I get a chance.

I really liked the first set of scenes which take place in 1982, it's here where you meet all 4 main guys as they are kids in the world arcade game championships. The main kid played by Adam Sandler loses the championship in a game of Donkey Kong to Eddie, who is played by Peter Dinklage. During the event, NASA recorded the event and sent the video up to space. From there, the movie just keeps building off of scenes and getting better, in the next scene we see Sandler's character and James's character debating female celebrities and this is where we learn James's character is actually the president and that he can't read. It only gets better as the movie goes on, the next scene is a hilarious compilation of games, beer, and pure comedy gold, and that's all before the aliens even start really attacking.

So it turns out that this alien race found the video from 1982 and took it as a message of war and sent down real video game characters to fight. The fight is in the form of battles where if earth loses, they lose a life and after 3 life are lost it's game over. They lose the first two battles and then Sandler, and another guy from the championship go on to win the next battle in a game of Centipede. After that win, Eddie is released from prison to help with the battles and the 3 of them are now the Arcaders. (in total there are 5 members which later include the president and female lead, who is snobby according to Sandler.) You would think that now that they have another member, it would be easier, but then, Pac man happens.

The Pac man scenes were some of the best, and what better place to battle then the streets of New York? Which served as the perfect Pac man course. The creator of Pac man joins the fight but soon gets his hand eaten before they even start the battle and after a few very intense scenes, Sandler takes Pac mans final life by driving his car backwards off the roof of a parking lot. The game is tied 2-2 but unfortunately, it turns out Eddie cheated not just in that battle but in 1982 as well, so or breaking the rules they automatically lost and the "mother ship" unleashes millions of game characters to destroy the world. After a few scenes, they are given one final shot to win in a do or die game of Donkey Kong which included Sandler's character, James's character, the female, and yes, even QBert. They win, a peace treaty is signed and the world is saved. The end.

Well, not really, there was so much more that made the movie so great, and some of the scenes were just either so silly or so stupid. During the final battle of Donkey Kong, Eddie and the last member are fighting on earth and the last member (Can't remember half their names) ended up fighting against a fictional game character who he was in love with since he was a kid. This scene was crazy because they go from killing each other to making out in under 10 seconds flat. Let's not forget that this entire fight/make out scene was in front of a school bus full of kids watching. It gets even weirder after that because she gets destroyed when they win, but QBert, who they get to keep, transforms into her, they get married, and they have QBert kids. All that is really just a small piece of what goes on in the movie, there's so much more and it's all wonderful to watch.

I guess you could say that the acting was just as good as the movie itself, you have Adam Sandler playing as the gamer turned appliance installer turned super hero. His performance was great, he had a ton of funny scenes and he had some pretty epic action ones as well such as when they battled the Centipede, Pac man, and Donkey Kong, with the final battle being one of the coolest battles I have ever seen in a movie. Next up you have Kevin James playing the President. Most of the time he was off on the sides and watching from a distance, but was in the final battle. He was great in the Donkey Kong scene too because while everyone was jumping over the barrels getting 100 point markers popping up, he would swing around the ladders and get 0 points. The rest if the actors were pretty cool, you had Ashley Benson as Lady Lisa as well as Brian Cox, Peter Dinklage, and even Serena Williams, Martha Stewart, and Dan Patrick. Overall, the acting was really well done here.

The music was pretty cool too though I'm nit sure I like the fact that they used the same song in two different scenes, which normally doesn't really happen in most movies. The song was the We will rock you song, but both times, it really fit in with the action and it had made the final battle against Donkey Kong so much better. Aside for that, there were a few other tracks thrown around that made the movie a bit better. Now we get to talk about the graphics which are really what made the movie what it was because it brought everything to life. Not only did all the special effects bring all the game characters to life, it made all the action scenes so intense. The driving scenes, the bullets, the back flips, the flying, the explosions, it all looked amazing.

If you have a chance to see this movie, then I really think that you should go out and see it, especially if you can see it in 3D, because there were a few scenes that were greatly enhanced by being able to see everything pop out at you. I saw the movie in IMAX 3D so I saw, heard, and felt everything, so if you can see that I can guarantee it will be really cool, but even if you can only see it standard, you should still go ahead and see it because I really think its a great movie and I'm sure that there are others out there who will like it as well.

I'd definitely like those scenes you mentioned! I'm hoping to see Pixels this weekend at the earliest. I knew that Pac-Man would have some really great scenes in the movie

After hearing about the bad reviews you mentioned, I decided to take a look at just how bad they're saying it is. Now I'm definitely going to wait til it comes to Redbox before seeing it, even though you seemed to have enjoyed it. Anyways, I hope I'll agree with your review once I finally do get to see it.

zanderlex : why's that a terrible idea? I'm saving money that way and I can use that money more wisely on a movie like Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
