This is especially common with RPG's and RPG-like games, such as Dark Souls, Skyrim, Final Fantasy, etc. So, how often do you re-roll your toons? Maybe not start a new one to replace an old one, but maybe you just have a crap ton of characters in Skyrim? Or maybe you're never quite happy with your character, so you're always going back to improve? As a side question, at what point in a game do you start new characters? I know for a lot of people it's after they beat a game, but for some people like me, they start them early on, to experience the game in a different way. You?

If the gameplay or story is different for each choice, I'll actually make a character of every race, I have that kind of time. Like, in Skyrim, I usually pick a race and stick with it until I beat the game, well, the main story stuff anyways. After that, I'll sample the other races and see which ones I prefer.

In the case of the Dragon Age games, I actually created a character of every race/background/gender to see how different the stories were depending on your choices, even before I had completed the game. I was surprised it wasn't the same game with different characters. Even the NPCs change a little, and I love how you can meet important characters in one storyline, that aren't important in another character's story. Really cool stuff.

It really depends on the game. Like in Fallout, the story is the same no matter which gender you pick, it's your actions and gameplay that differ. In Dragon Age, people treat you different depending on your race/gender/class.

In most cases though, I'll beat a game with a character before making another one.

A lot of rpgs I do this. Usually if I get bored with one or it's just not working out for me, I really have to re-roll it, since I can't play it at that point.

Skyrim is a good example, since there's so many races to choose from, and some of them are better in X type of skill, and stuff like that.

Dark souls, the various items you can start with, classes, items, etc...

But to be fair, it does add a lot of replay ability to the game.

maguc : For me it's not so much getting stuck, although I do get stuck occasionally. And in Skyrim and Dark Souls it's not about the races or anything, I just like experiencing different play styles. For a lot of people I've noticed, they either like Mages, Warriors, Thieves, or Rangers. But I tend to play all of them. Especially with Skyrim, where you have builds like the Dream Strider, I can never really get enough of the game.
