Which Dragon Quest game is your favorite?
Final Fantasy gets all the love, I though Dragon Quest needed some as well.

I know this franchise was loved more in Japan than here, but with the success of Dragon Quest VIII, I figured we would have received Dragon Quest games just a little better over here by now. Most of the Dragon Quest titles have very simplistic game play  and the latter titles like Dragon Quest VIII, IX, and X have just a bit of story to balance them out a little more. With that said, I was wondering what is your favorite Dragon Quest title?
Mine would have to be Dragon Quest VIII. That game is so fun to play. The animations are great, the music is great, the story that's in it is very well done.

LordGaldan : My favorite Dragon Quest games are tied with Dragon Quest 8 (VIII): Journey of the Cursed King on the PlayStation 2 and Dragon Quest 9 (IX): Sentinels of the Starry Skies on the Nintendo DS. Both games look really good in animations and are really intelligent story-telling or story elements that I liked in both games, but if I had to choose, I think I would join your boat with Dragon Quest 8 (VIII): Journey of the Cursed King as my favorite Dragon Quest game. Dragon Quest 8 (VIII): Journey of the Cursed King had so many plot twists and turns that when I thought the game was over, it continued on with the story of the game. I thought it ended when we got Jessika freed from a evil monster's control.

I have only played 1 through 6, so my favorite is 3. It is the most original story of them, it has the best soundtrack and gameplay. However IV has the most elaborate arrangements (looping after 90 seconds in a few occasions) and an original way of playing the game.

My favorite game in the series would probably have to be Dragon Quest V because that one's the only one that I really consider to be a great JRPG. For some reason, I've never really been into the Dragon Quest series very much, even though I love JRPGs.

My most fav would definitely be 8 the cursed king. I used to replay the game. I didn't care because I enjoyed it to the point that I did a lot of things did challengeable things on the game.

I have always wanted to try dragon quest 9 but that may still have to be put on hold.

My favorite has to be Dragon Quest V

The thing that I really like in the game is that you grow up with your character through his stages of childhood. And the story revolves through his whole life other than just a simple adventure like in most JRPG's.

Dragon Quest 7 is pretty outstanding. It has likable characters, good music, and pretty fun game play elements. Having to put back together the world is all ways fun in games.

I loved playing number four, the chapters game. You could play as different characters throughout each chapter.  And my favorite main character from this game was from the fourth chapter, the person you named at the beginning of the game.

The Dragon Quest series is a GREAT series. Heck, I played Dragon Warrior on NES before I played Final Fantasy. To me, those are the grandaddy of JRPG's.

Although I do admit, I've lost track of the series on more modern consoles and really only played the NDS one for any length of time (at least aside from the "retro" titles)

Honestly I found that some of the Dragon Quest spin-offs to be far more enjoyable than the main series but if I had to pick one it would be Dragon Quest V. Dragon Quest IV was decent but I just couldn't get into Dragon Quest VI. Hopefully my opinion will change when Dragon Quest VII comes to the 3ds.

I would have to say 8, simply because it's the only title in the franchise I've played. As much as I enjoyed it, I don't really have a reason for not checking out any of the other ones, it just happened that way.

janus : You and I are slowly getting on the same page about everything. I responded to a few other threads and in each one you answered, I was thinking, "Janus gets it."

I'm calling it Dragon Warrior III for NES because I played the original game you had to blow into to get moving once it got dusty. Or you blew into the cartridge for good luck.

I'm motivated to write a review for the game now. It introduced day and night, it had a great set of spells and defensive and offensive tactics, the bank was solid, and the story-telling was easily the best I had ever seen. It set the bar for RPGs when I was at a very young age and it has influenced all the games I have played since. The music was tremendous, the missions were often fetching things for people but it was unique and engaging enough to put me in the story. I felt like I was really a part of a small party of my friends (since you name them) and we went and saved the world. The day/night element of different messages from town people..... I could go on.

Dragon Warrior III or Dragon Quest III is the superior game. It established itself as heads above the rest and it led the way of RPG success the next 25 some years.

I have only played part 8,but it was so fun. If you have a PS2 or a backwards compatible PS3,get it,trust me,it is good. Hint: If you need money in game, hunt down Goldbrickers, they are a fairly easy kill and give up a lot of money.

Ghostbear1111 : Great minds think alike . And by all means do write a review! Reading them is the second thing I love on this website (after playing, of course). My favorite element was the "looping of the loop", which was done infinitely better than in, say, Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals. We can not find a single village from Lufia I!
