This game is a good game for a prototype.

If you are not convinced Super Mario Brothers 2 was not a  Mario game originally. You will the second you go to subspace because you go there by picking a magic lamp and rubbing it to make a door appear.  The game can drags by making there be no run button for this version Super Mario Brothers 2 so, I hope you have 100 years to spare when you start playing this game.  The end of level mini game do not look like the mini game from the final and better version of this game, but the concept is the same; get a coin from subspace, get to the end of the level, and get a cherry from the mini game. The concept of throwing things at bad guys to beat bad guys to cool for a Mario game.

Your review was alright, but it could really use a little work. 

First off. you should really talk more about the game. You just kind of said what the game was, and not really much about the game. You should separate your review down more into things such as Game play, sound, how hard the game is, addictiveness, graphics, all of the things that are listen there you should probably talk about. 

Second, explain why you think the game was good for a prototype. Don't just say it was good and then just talk about the game itself, talk about what you liked and maybe even what you didn't like. 

If you have any questions on anything related to game reviews, feel free to ask!

I liked the way you introduced your review (the game was Doki Doki Panic, by the way), but as Barathemos said it needs a little work. To add to what he said, I would add a personal favorite: compare to others games. Since Mario is such a rich franchise, dare to compare it to other games (gameplay, graphics, etc.) so players know what they are in for.

Mario 2 is indeed a great departure from "regular" Mario play, but you would need to elaborate some more as to how it departs (the throwing, as you mentioned, but also the lack of powerups, how you fight bosses...).

janus : What about the real SMB2? The only depart  from the normal Mario play is how hard it is compared to the 1st game and the fact it introduced the 1st power down in Mario game known as the poison mushrooms as well as being the longest in  the Super Mario Bros. trilogy.
