P.O.W. Review

Ok Starting out in this game is an old school NES war game. I like the position and starting of this game with the first mission/level being you escaping from your prison cell, but I have no idea where you got the dynamite to do that. You will notice right off the bat the NES Graphics...not the greatest. But I find the graphics in this game are better than most fighting and war games on NES like Predator and such. For this I have given the Graphics and 7 out of 10.

The sound isn't too bad at all. You get a lot of cool elements in this game Gun shots, Grenades exploding, Helicopters Tanks and some other stuff. Attacking sounds are a bit lacking but hey it was NES...come on how good could it possibly be? The music in the game is what does it for me. That is why I gave the Sound a 6 out of 10 instead of 4 or 5.

This game is not easy so it will have you sucked in playing this for a while unless you happened to have owned it or played it many time over like I have. Yes I have owned this game and beaten it many times over and I still Love to play it. Seriously additive to me, but for most however you might not be addicted to it as much as me but you will want to finish the game most likely. The levels get immensely harder as you go along so I see a lot of continues in your future. That is why I gave the game Only a 7 out of 10 in addictiveness.

Well the Main story starts out as the title screen indicates...You're a Prisoner of War. "P.O.W" so you will be escaping from a hostile enemy in the middle of their war torn lands. As you follow through with the game you start to notice that you are not only escaping but trying to sabotage the enemy forces while doing so it evolves a little but not much. You get some nice action with certain battles but other than that it's pretty much straight forward. That is why I gave it a 6 out of 10 on the Story. Most people would probably rate it lower although.

Ok as far as the story goes it pretty much straight forward and when it comes to depth it is pretty much the same except this is where a lot of the elements combine to make it a pretty good overall game for NES. I gave the Overall score and 8.5 and stand by that as a good score due to the platform it is presented on. The game isn't to packed when it comes to missions or any side things. You can get gain armor, brass knuckles, machine guns throw able knives and extra life to help, but it is mostly just difficult and will require time to advance through the levels. So that is where the depth comes into the game.

Now the difficulty. This game will probably have you beating your head of the keyboard or wall. You only get 3 lives and yes you will most likely be using a few of them before you make it through half way of the second level. The first level isn't too bad but as you go on through the game it honestly gets a lot tougher. The boss on the first level isn't too bad unlike the next 3-4 bosses. Even the regular enemies get harder, faster and take even more attacks to kill and gain other abilities. I honestly have NEVER beaten the game on just the 3 lives they give you at the start. I have always had to use the extra lives cheat code which I will not provide because it takes away from the aspect of the game but if you really want to beat it look it up.  Honestly try it without the cheat a few times to see if you can best it without cheating. Due to the way the game get exponentially harder I gave the difficulty a 10 out of 10.

When it comes to overall score on this game like stated above I give it a 8.5 out of 10. It is a very good game that came out on a old platform that probably should have continued in sequels on newer platforms and I am a little disappointed that it did not. But like a lot of NES games this is a common thing. Be sure to give this one a try I'm sure you will either love it or hate it.

I believe this was a port of an arcade game. Good to see ol' timey games getting reviewed. I got pretty far, but I needed the code too to beat it.

Decent job on the review, although I was a little confused on your ending line: "But like a lot of NES games this is a common thing" What did you mean by that? That there were a bunch of games on the NES that you wish would have been made into Franchises but did not? Because the NES was not a stranger to creating franchises that have lasted 30 years now... ;-)

Decent job on the review. I felt at times you could have been more clear on your points, or went into detail a little more about each category.

As far as the game goes, although it's difficult at times, I CERTAINLY wouldn't give this game a 10/10 difficulty. I mean I don't even find it to be as hard as a game like Double Dragon 2 or Battletoads 2 player. Once you play the game a few times and you understand the enemies attacks it gets a lot easier.

This is a port of an arcade game that was released a few years earlier. One of the better NES ports of an arcade game.

That was a good review. Your structure is clear (even if not explicit) and you give it plenty of details so people know what the game is about. A personal suggestion for your next review: try making comparisons with other games (of the same genre, of the same era). This way it might entice people to play this game.
