Other than this being an issue with recent updates from google to their chrome browser, this seems like it's the age-old (a couple years old) problem which was recently just fixed according to this update by Davideo7:

it might be the 64 bit version of google chrome, i had the same issue before where it not only woudn't work but it wouldn't even show up in the plugins list either, then i reinstalled the 32 bit version of chrome and it worked fine and was in the list

Apparently, google saw it fit to disable all NPAPI plugins.
To get vizzed on the list and ultimately re-enable it follow these steps:
In the address bar, type in chrome://flags/#enable-npapi and press enter
At the top, you should see this:

Click enable
Restart Chrome

The plugin should now appear in the list when you type chrome://plugins in the address bar.
Make sure always allow is checked.

The plugin show now work in Chrome.
