So I just turned in a draft of a paper due on Friday to my TA. I got it back today and it has comments on like half of it....

I feel like I've been criticized like 10x....

I also fear that my papers will be all marked up when turning in papers in general.

Obviously, I plan on re-reading the comments and modifying my paper based on them, but how can I overcome these feelings of "-______-....ugh!!!!" when I get papers back and fear when I turn them in?

You can't.  Do the work, rewrite the paper, understand what the teacher wants you to accomplish, and hand the thing in.

It's not your tax return.  Do the work and see what happens.

Since it's only a draft, the best thing you can do for this paper is to go by what comments your professor left and just as warmaker has said, just do the work ^^. However, for future papers, I suggest finding a friend who has an English major (or is working towards one) and ask him/her to check over your paper. That way, you get feedback on your work without repercussion and your friend can practice checking grammatical/punctual errors.

Unless the essay was on a very touchy subject (and the professor let you know that thinking against him/her is a crime) then there's nothing to feat. Whatever correction you will get will be objective and related to whatever subject was given. Just look at the corrections, understand them and you should be OK

xxeliza321xx : As long as you understand them then everything should be OK. I wished more of my professors offered this "improvement" option. I could have certainly boosted my grades a little...

You're lucky to have a TA who is that dedicated to looking over your paper, especially since it's just a draft!  They're probably not thinking "Wow, what a terrible paper, lets write some mean comments."  They're probably thinking "This is a great argument, and I want to help my student understand how to argue it even better!"  They probably also get all jazzed when they help encourage understanding and improvement.

I'm always shocked with how much English/History TAs have to read and correct- If they have 30 students writing maybe 30 pages worth of papers throughout the semester and they have to read a rough draft too, they have like 6 full sized novels to read- and many of the papers aren't exactly enthralling.

So be encouraged that your TA thought your paper was worth the time they put into commenting on it.  If it had no comments, then your paper was either perfect (unlikely) or wasn't worth your TA's time.
