This month's High Score competition is for 'Crazy Taxi' for the Sega Dreamcast. You can play it here:

The point of this competition is to get as high of a score as you can.

You must play in Arcade mode using Arcade rules.


VIDEO REQUIRED: The RGR Plugin doesn't support video recording so you'll have to use an external program for recording video.

Some recording programs you can use include:
-Camtasia (recommended)
-Xsplit (Broadcast > Local recording)
-Camstudio
-Hypercam
-Plenty of other programs out there


RULES: You MUST play the game using the RGR Plugin in 'Timetrial Mode' and take a screenshot of your top score from that by pressing F6. To play in 'Timetrial Mode', scroll down the page where the highscores would appear, you'll see a link that says 'Click Here to Compete for Highscore', click that. Once you've taken your screenshot, click the link near that one that says 'Click Here to Submit your Score' to submit your score.

You cannot unfairly get points or lives or use a glitch of any sort. If you find something that gives out unlimited points or lives, it will not count.

1st = 75,000 Viz or $100
2nd = 37,500 Viz or $25
3rd = 15,000 Viz or $10
4th = 10,000 Viz
5th = 5,000 Viz

I always loved this game ever since I was younger, so later in the month once the tdv starts to cool down, I will give it a shot and see if I can do anything.

This thread is not linked in the announcement. You put last month's Marble Madness thread in its place instead somehow.

If for some reason we are unable to record this game through the RGR Plugin (be it loading issues or some other reason), can we use our own emulator or the Steam version instead?

The point of these competitions is to help promote the RGR Plugin and take advantage of its features. Sorry. Also, highscore screenshots wouldn't work with steam or an emulator with how the site is programmed since the RGR Plugin makes sure to disable certain features that would allow you to cheat.

Davideo7 : Oh yeah, forgot. High score submission. Well, if I can't get Vizzed's emulator to work, I may not be able to participate in this one.

Since score is in money, I presume we just drop the decimal when submitting? (A score of $8,000.69 would be submitted as 800,069, basically.)

Davideo7 : Cant find the built in recorder. Usually it is F8, but I tried that and it does not work. I must be missing something here but I'm not sure what it is. How do I record using built in recorder?

Edit: Ah, I see we must use an external recorder. Can I use Action! for my recordings?

Lag videos still count?
I don't know if my computer will play DC games at full speed.

sonikku : I put in a decimal number, and it rounded up for me to the nearest integer. Your score would be around 8,000. You got good skills if you're to make that much!

Foodperson : I'm decent, but not great. I still crash into too many things, but on a good run, I can usually get an Awesome rank. I just use $8,000.69 as an example because I actually got that score in a run on the Steam version, and it needed to prove the point that the decimal can matter; the default top score is $8,000.00.

And yeah, if lag videos don't count, then I can't participate anyway. The game runs at a lag, but it's still very much playable and doesn't cause any other glitches in the game. (The game's physics, on the other hand... so many Crazy Drift bonuses trying to crash stop because I get stuck on two wheels against the wall. Gets tips if you hold that position, but costs precious time. I've lost time bonus seconds to it too by falling to Normal from Speedy.)

I see. I actually read the rules to find out that I must record, so that high score I posted last night doesn't count, apparently. Okay, I'm going to have to set up some livestream sessions in my free time, dedicated solely to this game! You can watch me at (shameless plug, lol) twitch.tv/intelhd4000, and most of us using the Twitch page here on Vizzed will likely stream this game as well.

Speaking of lag, I'm certain that this Vizzed Dreamcast emulator is capped at 30 FPS and may have lag anyhow, so I think your video will be legit if you can bother to do it. I believe you can do it, man!

Foodperson : NullDC can certainly run at 60 FPS. Fraps is telling me I can hit that value in menus, and in-game, it drops to about 30-45 FPS. As I said, it still plays well enough (it actually makes it easier to Crazy Dash somewhat without accidentally triggering Crazy Drift), but it's a matter of whether the lag video will be accepted.

sonikku : It does seem like you have an advantage because the game play is slower allowing you to make quicker adjustments. Reaching 34k is not impossible but it is pretty tough, I think I can beat that

Kruzer : It's not really as big an advantage as you think. I'm used to playing the game at full speed from the Steam version, so I have to adjust my movements to the lag and delay things longer than I'm used to.

Also, that 34k score is the first time I ever reached CRAZY!!! license in this game. All of my other scores were below 20k; your current best as of me posting this was slightly below what my previous (unposted) record was.

131 Customers?! Really?! Now that is just CRAZY!! lol.
I don't think I will even come close to beating that score but.. dammit.. I will try.

Kruzer : Could've been better. I kept getting sent back to the Downtown area and literally ran out of fares in that area. If the stops had kept me doing loops around the city instead of keeping me in one place (and the time stayed decently high), I would've been able to get more customers and more money.

sonikku : Well...I thought it would count if I at least show proof that I made the video. I guess I can't livestream this anymore--I have to do local, private recordings. This stinks...livestreaming this is much more convenient to me simply because I won't have to waste disc space that way, but oh wel...at least my MP4 videos don't take up that much space to begin with.
