We've been hearing a lot about woman performers, mostly singers and actors, do concerts and movies where their outfit, at one point or another, is a little bit "suggestive". Miley Cyrus, for instance, got HUGE media coverage for doing a show that was "sexy". And then there are other performers, where if they don't come out with their breasts showing, everyone feels like they were ripped off. What, the literal, duck? Why is there a double standard?

My theory is a simple one: expectations. Think about it, if you walk into, say, a Black Sabbath concert you don't expect to see the land of Oz or hear "Do you like Waffles". On the same note, if you walk into a Simple Plan show, you don't expect to see corpses hanging from the walls, or "War Pigs". If you hear that song, you would feel either gypped or, in my case, you're getting more out of that ticket stub. Either way, you will probably hear about it on the news the next morning. Now about woman. If you go to see, say, Oprah and she's half naked, your like "Wtf?". And if you go to a strip club and one of the dancers has all their clothes on, another "Wtf?" moment. People were so surprised by Miley Cyrus because they didn't expect her to look that way. But if she makes this a habit, then no one will pay attention anymore, because they expect it. What do you guys think?

Yeah, that whole Miley Cyrus thing was really just a media free-for-all I think. I mean, in that same night, Lady Gaga was wearing way less. Also, Miley is younger, and it was more a surprise.

I think what people dislike is that woman use sexiness to progress in their careers, and as a result, it objectifies them. It also creates a ridiculous standard of what woman "should" look like.

I agree that we really shouldn't need woman taking their clothes off to "make it" in the industry (and some woman have proved it, like Taylor Swift). I mean, if a woman really WANTS to do that, then they have the right... but they should think of what that means to other girls, and what it's doing to the business industry first... if they still want to, then so be it.

Light Knight : I agree 100%. You know, I wonder how many kids were at that Miley concert... Anyway, I agree that woman are doing this to themselves, in the sense that they, as you say it, "objectify" themselves to further their profession. But, for me at least, if they want to be sexy, I'm fine with it, and if they want to stay professional, I won't think any less of them. That's my standing, anyway.

I personally think that the "MTV type" female performers (Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Beyonce, Miley etc.) are the worst examples to our youth of how a woman should be and present herself.  Unfortunately and sadly many young ladies look up to them and they think this is how it is and how they must be.  Frankly these performers are a disgrace to society with the filth that they're advertising.  I really feel for them, because they are totally lost.
