This system was the bomb! You could play ps1 and ps2 games on it! I got rid of all my games at one point in time. It was...sort of a family decision, but when mom started working, she decided that we should get some games to keep us occupied while she's gone (mainly for my sister mary, but they keep me more occupied than they do her!) I was thinking about getting another system, and I want it to be the ps2. Do you think that is a wise desicion, given the time in its lifespan and whatnot. No doubt about it, ps has all the games that I want, and I think that it is worth more than many of the new systems that ps has, but I just want to get a little feedback first.

Pac Man World
Pac Man World 3
MegaMan X collection
Megaman X7
Megaman X8
Megaman x Command Mission
Megaman Network Transmission
Arcade games galore!
And I am sure that there is a lot more worth having on here, but there is one thing that bugs me. Should I just wait for the "rare" stage in gamecube's life cycle to go back down, and I can get most of these a lot cheaper? Or should I just dish out the approxiamately $50 for the ps?

Local Mods : Should this belong in any of the Video Game forums?

Yeah, ps1 and 2 have some great games so I would say go for it for that kind of money. It could probably turn into a really good investment if it works and you get a good amount of games.

That Is a good question, LunarDarkness2, but I put it here, because I felt this was more of a general chat topic. But if i'm wrong, Feel free to move it!

Well, I will say that Mega Man X7 is pretty bad, and most of the battle network fanbase doesn't like network transmission, but there's no problem with checking them out. I also wanted a PS2 at one point. Just something to point out, though, if you are planning to get Sonic Heroes, then get the Gamecube version. From what I've heard, it's worse on the PS2. From what I've heard, the Pacman world games are pretty good .

zanderlex : Yeah, I believe that you are right, I just wondered if the timing was late, but the ps2 almost seems to be an immortal system that is still going strong. 

ZeroTails : Meh, not that much into sonic, so no, wasn't really thinking about it. But I love megaman, and have wanted to see what the fuss is about on x7. I seem to like all the non-favorites, so I'd probably love it! Pac Man world 1 and 3 are totally awesome! I owned both of them, and they are just so much fun!

The timing wouldn't be late, the ps2 will last for at least a couple more years before anything happens.

zanderlex : That's good, I'll see if endless electronics has anything good in that department. I may even try amazon. I have about $100 to spend on it so, I'm hoping to get some good stuff.

FaithFighter : OMG I love the PS2!!! MegaMan X8 is a pretty good game, and you should definitely give it a try! My game crashed even before I managed to complete the game, sadly . Anyway, you should definitely buy the PS2, and I'm sure they are still on sales! One another game I recommend for the PS2 is the amazing fighting game: Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3! As for Gamecube, it's also a pretty good system, along with awesome games, such as Super Mario Sunshine.

greenluigi : I'm not a whole bunch into fighting games. So I'm not sure whether I would like that or not. But you are right about mario sunshine. In my opinion, that was the best mario game ever. Why, Nintendo actually put some thought into it! Instead of making it the same old let's save the princess game. I actually perfected Super Mario Sunshine and got all 120 shine sprites.

FaithFighter : Yeah, even though I haven't tried it, yet. Have you tried Wind Waker for Gamecube?

greenluigi : Can't say that I have. How about Mario Kart Double Dash? I think that had one of the best racing systems yet, as far as the strategic element is concerned.

I will say this because the GC came into the topic. I like the PS2, it has some of the greatest games I've played. BUT, Gamecube had better hardware. I just don't know what went wrong with the Gamecube, but if you see a comparison between games that came out on both consoles the GC has better graphics and loading times.

Well, even that way, PS2 has some of the nice games that didn't go to Nintendo, like the Final Fantasy games.  I still play the PS2, trying to play those games I never played in the past

I actually still have a PS2! My aaaancient giant one finally died, but one of my best friends gave me money for my birthday last year and I found one of the tiny little flip-top slim PS2s on eBay for 40 bucks. It works GREAT, plays all my PSX and PS2 games without glitching out, and I still use it for those games over using the PS3. PS3 has too many glitches on some of my fave PS2 games for me to play them properly, though for its gen games and DVDs, it's fine.

...that reminds me that I wanted to go play Shadow Hearts today, actually. I'll need to set aside some time for that, hah.

TheDiaz : Oh yes, I am well aware of the gamecubes capabilites. It's just that right now, most of the games are so expensive. Megaman X collection for gamecube. $100! Ps2? $24. That's pretty much what I am thinking about for now.

FaithFighter : Yup! Some of the PS3 models can play PS2 games.  The 20 and 60GB NSTC versions will play PS2 games fully, and the 80GB NTSC  version will play some of them through software emulation, but not all. The rest of them can only play PS2 games that are bought from the PSN store, so they're digital.

 I have the 60GB version, and all of my PS2 games can be played on it, though Shadow Hearts has this weird glitch that keeps me from doing a few things, so I play it on the PS2 exclusively.

You can get the other models modded to play PS2 games, but it kinna nulls your warranty, so I don't recommend it. Your best bet is to look for one of the older 20 or 60GB  PS3s. I have a TON of games on mine and I'm nowhere close to filling it yet.

ALL  of the PS3 models will play ALL PS1 games, though. They're fully backwards compatible there.

FaithFighter :    I used to have a PS3 that played PS1 and 2 games, then Bayonetta broke my PS3. I had to send it in, and they told me they couldn't fix it, so they sent me a brand new PS3, one that couldn't play PS2 games...

That sucked. Even with it being 3 generation compatible, there were still some PS2 games that just weren't. Silent Hill 3 was the one my PS3 told me wouldn't work. And even if they did work, some PS2 games were glitchy. Some even game-endingly so. This didn't happen to me, but to a friend I know. He was playing Soul Reaver, and in this one room, there should have been a pillar he needed to climb or push, that wasn't there. The game just never rendered it in, so he couldn't beat the game.

So, even if you have a 3 gen compatible PS3, it's usually better to play PS2 games on a PS2. But I've never had a problem with PS1 games on the PS3. Hope that helps. 

F. Starr : At any rate, it's exciting for me to find that the Ps3 isn't entirely worthless to me after all! Even just it playing ps 1 games is way awesome. And most likely, i would not be playing either of the games that you mentioned. I'm willing to take a chance with it. At any rate, if that fails, I could always grab a ps2
