Okay, mario has his section, as well as many franchises that I have never even heard about until I arrived at the village of vizzed. But pacman is one of the main dudes I was raised on! His games have spanned so many consoles--more so than mario--and for crying out loud, he's way cooler! He can eat ghosts! Mario sure can't do that! Plus, I think he has had a few more styles than mario. The original maze style, the sidescrolling style of PacLand, 3d maze, indirect controls, (Pac Man the new adventures 2) as well as modern day 3d platformers. (which in my opinion have much nicer features than what mario has had. In addition, there have been a lot more cool storylines, and not just the "bowser kidnapped the princess...what else is new..." theme. Hey, he even got into the latest smash bros. PacMan has games that span from 1980 all the way to present day. (btw, he actually started in his own game and not in someone else's like Donkey Kong!) He has had two cartoon series. The second which is Pac Man and the Ghostly adventures, which is currently running. (Mario doesn't have a cartoon right now!) Sure mario has a ton more games, but in a way they are kind of all the same. Pac man is also the mascot for Namco in much the same way mario is for nintendo. Don't get me wrong, mario is awesome, but PacMan deserves to be recognized here too. Don't you agree?

At least Mario can pound on ghosts to defeat them (edit: in Super Mario 64) Pac-Man eating ghosts is still cooler. I'd never before thought about most of the things you said in this post.

I agree that Pac-Man should be recognized in this forum, and I'm surprised at how little people talk about Pac-Man on Vizzed.

PacmanandMariofan : That actually depends on which game your playing, in super mario galaxy, you have to lead them into the light. Some games you cannot beat them unless you have a yoshi or star. And yeah, why isn't the oldest and best character around not talked about anymore here?

The thing is, it's not about age.

It's about the wide spectrum and popularity of those games.

Mario is a talked about franchise because it encompasses all kinds of genres, mainly platformers, and appeals to just about everyone. It's among the most famous of all game franchises.

Pacman, while fun, has a far more limited appeal. If people want a Pacman section, they should go to the effort to actually talk about Pacman, which, you can see, most people do not.

I for one put Pacman above Mario in terms of quality, but that's an opinion held in the minority.

I think Pac-Man isn't talked about anymore here because his first game is just eating pellets and ghosts in a maze trying to get the high score. Because his first game is that basic, some people think the whole Pac-Man series is boring, therefore they never try it, let alone talk about it.

Most people on Vizzed seemingly prefer Mario, as Mario has a section and Pacman does not.

Pacman hasn't really been relevant this century. Some still play the games, and there have been some modern releases, but it is a much more niche fandom than the Mario one.

If you want to see a Pacman section, make threads about the games. You'll see how few fans there are in relation to Mario fans.

And unless you can somehow force everyone to agree with your opinion, Mario will always be more popular than Pacman.

However...I have been wanting to take mario off his pedestal a bit (no easy task, I know) and probably not going to happen. But you can't stop me from trying.

But yeah, I'm with the majority: I love Mario games (all of them) they're a blast for me and just a wonderful little universe. I have to ask though, do you really feel he isn't as good as people think, or do you just feel it's unfair that he's so much more popular than a game you feel is better?

I am a Mario fan. More than just his gameplay, he also has a great selection of music and support characters which make me put him above the arcade icon. I am out of touch with Pac Man, does he now boast more memorable cast than the ghosts and Mrs/Baby/Super Pac Man?
