So what CPU do you have on your PC or mobile device?

If you dont know what CPU is, Central Processing Unit. If you don't what yours is...

For PC just go to control panel and then System. It should show you your cpu where it says processor. For mobile devices, download CPU Z on any app store you have. (Its Free). The Processor is the first thing you see.

Anyway I have a AMD APU E 1-2500 Dual Core, its pretty much low end but very energy-efficient and my laptop that I never use anymore has Intel Pentium Dual Core T3200 Also my phone uses ARM Cortex A-7 Quad Core Processor.

Oh this should be fun. Did you realize that your phone's processor is much better (for what you paid) than you PC's processor?

Anyway, my `main' desktop--Which I haven't used at all this semseter =(--has an AMD FX-6100 clocked at 3.3 GHz. My spare parts PC--built in 2007--has uhh... I think it's an AMD Phenom II, but it might be an Anthlon II now that I think of it. My Mac Pro, which never sees any use, has a PowerPC G4 in it, and more fans that I can shake a stick at. Seriously, that thing sounds like a get airplane when you start it up.

And now for my laptops. The one I'm on now has an Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 clocked at 2.53 GHz. My wife's has an AMD A8, not sure on the clockspeed. My netbook, which used to be a fileserver and probably will be again pretty soon, has an Intel Atom, but I'm not sure which one. And my phone has a QualComm Snapdragon 801. Bet you can guess what phone that's out of. =)

Lazlo Falconi : "Oh this should be fun. Did you realize that your phone's processor is much better (for what you paid) than you PC's processor?"
Is debatable. If you have say an Intel, AMD, Cortex-A7, Cortex-A8 and say a Snapdragon (used a lot in Android phones), and say we had all dual cores all 1.5ghz they will all preform differently and benchmark much differently.

I currently am using an i7 2600K which is normally overclocked to 4.4ghz but is turned back down again at the moment (to be honest I couldn't really tell any difference in performance).

And phone is using a Dual-core 1.4 GHz Cyclone (iPhone 6+)

BigBob85 : It's not really debatable, though. I'm not talking about straight performance, but price-of-performance.

Lazlo Falconi : Price per performance is a ridiculous scale to compare a desktop/notebook CPU to a mobile phone CPU.

When I look up buying one of each I can find a phone with a snapdragon 400 (quad core a7, in this case LG G Vista) for twice the price of a desktop with an AMD E1-2500. Even if you got a second hand phone with a snapdragon 400 (the desktop I was looking at was also second hand) the desktop CPU price/performance will still win out.

Comparing what benchmarks run on both, the E1-2500 comes out on top of the Snapdragon 400.

If you somehow managed to get windows to install on the phone (though it is doubtful, being an ARM cpu and all) you'd be able to see this in action.

Lazlo Falconi : You were saying price to performance ratio between the two CPUs, the phone is a lot better on that scale because you get more power from the phone per dollar paid vs the desktop?

But when the phone costs more and has less power then the above statement is not true.

AMD A8-4500M with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 1.9GHz. I can only assume that the "M" means "mobile" as this is my laptop I'm talking about. Slowest laptop in terms of GHz, but perhaps my fastest one because it is actually a quad-core processor.
