Well, I've had a few people look at me and ask what Cyber School is, so I figured I'd make a thread telling everyone that doesn't know what it is. It's as the name suggests really, school on a computer. But there's much more differences. Let me go through a few. First off, no waking up. People in cyber school can wake up whenever the [yoshi sound kicks in] they want. (unless they have sessions, but my school doesn't) As long as we have all our lessons done by the end of the year, we are good. Whats even better is that we go at our own pace. Meaning if you're tired of having to wait for everyone in school to catch up to you, in cyber school you can get all of your lessons done at a fast pace unlike everyone else. With this privilege it's actually possible to graduate at a young age. Like 15 or so. So yeah that's really it. I honestly think Cyber School is much better than regular school because of these reasons, what do you think? PS : yes I know this sounded a lot like an essay, please forgive me First off, no waking up. People in cyber school can wake up whenever the [yoshi sound kicks in] they want. I wouldn't say it's better in general. I'd say it's better for some people. Some people crave and need a certain order in their lives that they can't provide for themselves and regular school can provide that. Many more don't have the motivation to succeed in Cyber School. I personally prefer online classes since I am highly motivated. I'm not super organized, but as I take the classes I am growing and learning how to be. I am VERY glad the option exists, but too many people just plain don't love learning. The option, in my opinion, should only be taken by people who are motivated and ready for the challenges it presents. The work may come with a longer time frame to be completed, but be harder in scope. I had a particularly challenging and intensive Psychology class that I took online near the beginning of my time in college. Several English classes I took were also very difficult and intensive. But all were a blast and are among my favorite classes. |

The only problem is that you don't develop the same social skills that you would at a regular school. At normal school you are surrounded by people and you need to learn how to interact with them and make friends. You will likely have a harder time socially if you don't go to a physical school. Not saying you will be a weirdo or anything, just that it might be harder to talk to people and whatnot. |

tgags123 : Quite frankly, social skills are an afterthought for me. I mean, I have Vizzed, a great personality. And a Youtube channel I rarely upload vids on. I'd rather have smarts than social skills since knowledge is more important. |

Mega Mewtwo X : I wouldn't say that. If you are good at talking it will take you very far in life. Being charismatic is much more beneficial in many situations in the real world than being smart is. There are plenty of people out there that only have their jobs because they are good at talking, not because they are smart. Just look at Obama! Despite the fact that he is a moron, he was elected president of the US because is a great speaker and he won the population over. |

Cyber schooling sounds like homeschooling, except that lessons aren't given through parents over teachers in web chats. Do you watch videos at all, or just read word tutorials? Is it something like Khan Academy, if you know what that looks like? Personally, I don't think it sounds like a bad idea. I know there are concerns over socializing, but that's why it's important for parents to ensure their children grow in ALL areas. If parents choose to have their children be cyber skilled, they should put measures in place to give their kids plenty of interactions with other kids their ages. Plus, I can't see any downsides to finishing school early. The United States probably keeps students institutionalized longer than most other countries and it stints their learning capabilities. How exciting would it be to finish school early, start a career at a young age, and possibly retire before all of your friends? Pretty sweet, if you ask me. I do like the concept of Cyber School because the reason why is that you can be able to do your classes without being late for anything. I think with my point of view, it would make things easier with kids and teens from waking up too early just to go to school and you can end the day in time to do a lot of evening activities, so it's really a win-win. |

I would definitely like to try this, I mean, I like to do things at a fast pace since I'm advanced and go to the regular classes (which is fine for me), but I think I get in twice the lessons in a single day. So, I might be 1 week ahead of everyone else just from doing 1 week of Cyber School. I wouldn't see a problem with this. Instead of just doing random stuff when there's extra time, start teaching the next lesson! Now I bet lessons are fit to start and end according to the class, which I see no problem with, but think of what we can get done in Cyber School! In a 45 minute period, I bet our class can learn like 2 or 3 lessons! This just sounds like a good idea just waiting to happen. |

I would like to add something to this, a common misconception is what tgags brought up... Lack of Social Skills, but I would like to give a picture, which is common in every country. Texting. How many kids use texting as their ONLY interaction with people? Actually, many do. In fact, the society is losing it's social interaction with people, but back to the subject. I am Cyber schooled, I watch videos from an actual school. They videotape the class and then they have the classes either as DVDs or as an Online thing. You can watch any class, but you can only watch them in order, plus, this system allows me to work ahead. I should be done with school in April! One problem, if you don't try to keep contact with people, you are more likely to fall behind in Social skills, but that isn't exclusive to Home-schoolers. I'm actually doing my school through the computer, but I have quite a few live classes that I need to be on top of. I actually do have teachers that I can request assistance from if I have a problem with the recent lessons. Pretty sure someone on this thread said you don't develop the same social skills, which is true is some cases. However, my particular school requires me to interact with other students on a semi-regular basis through a few group projects. I actually see people face to face quite a bit, so I don't feel like that much of a social outcast. |

I always recommend online schooling to my mom and she says "No you need to be in an environment with people your age" Well heres the thing: i really dont like most in my school so whats the point of being in an environment with people you dont like? Most in my school are just bullies and many are dumber than a box of rocks. School at my own pace sounds good because in some subjects im a slow learned and in my school if you a slow learner you are just left behind. |

I had cyber classes in college. The only time I ever saw my fellow classmates was for the few times we came in for tests throughout the semester, which was a grand total of five times, counting the finals. I sort of enjoyed it, as I could get all of my work done quickly and then not bother with it for days at a time until the professor put up the next batch of assignments. I also didn't have to deal with people or leave the house, which was a plus on days when the weather was yuck or I felt awful enough to hate life, much less trying to deal with other people talking at me. I didn't like how difficult it was to ask questions about things, though. That was one major disadvantage. You could ask a question, and it might be hours (or overnight) before the professor would get back to you, or another student would answer if they knew what to do already. It made things stupidly slow on occasion, and the frustration would mount. Overall, though, it was a good experience, and I recommend it if you live somewhere where it is difficult to get to class. I would never say that it's better than regular school, because I have a mix of both and I can;t stand the online classes because I always forget to do the work. I'm always doing so much online, whether it's vizzed, or some of my online jobs that I would just forget to do online schoolwork. I'm not the kind of person who can do schoolwork that's just online, I can easily do all regular schoolwork and typed work, but if the class is online, I'll always get sidetracked and distracted, o even though I have had online classes twice so far in college, I absolutly hate them. |
