Join me as we talk about the short but amazing game of Portal! Jump through the Portal in your screen, and immerse yourself in the World of Half-Life/ Portal! This game was a Modification of Half-Life 2, and shares many mechanics from the original game. The game really has few songs, but the one it does have is amazing. Join me for the review about this amazing game made by Valve studios!
Plot/ Story: The game really doesn't seem to have a story. It has one, it's just hard to follow it. I enjoyed the ambiguous start, and the ending was also done very well. But you really have no idea who you are, why you are there or anything like that. It is sad, but it still seems to keep going, not only because of the cool gameplay, but the story. I'll keep this short, as the game has story, but it was more of an audience test. Because the game has good story, but not very good back story, I give it an 8/10.
Graphics: The game has good graphics, not better than Half-Life 2, but not worse. It really is well done, and I found no problems with the graphics. As a mod of the original it really has amazing graphics. I loved every bit of the games graphics. Portal 2 did improve upon the game, but really this one did just fine. The game has good graphics, and it seems to have fewer problems than Half-Life 2, but it didn't use the same stuff. I give it a 9/10.
Sound/ Music:The game has good sounds, one of the best being the Portal gun. I really loved the sounds it made. The glass getting shot by the turrets is also realistic. Valve did a good job on the sounds in this game. Sadly, they didn't do much for music. There is one song, and that can be heard two ways, bring one of the radios with you, or beat the game. GLAddOS sings Still Alive at the end, and this song is really cool. I couldn't have asked for anything better, other than more songs. I liked the music, loved the songs, but they could have had more songs, therefore I give it a 7/10.
Depth: The game sadly doesn't have much to offer, as it was just meant to try out the style of game... It was fun, and had good story, but it lacked in this category. I won't spend long on this, because there is really not much to say, other than that they didn't do much here. I wish they added more content, but it was just a test. I give it a 6/10.
Gameplay/ Controls: The game handles similarly to Half-Life 2, with the exception of the Secondary (Right Mouse) button. Instead of a more powerful attack, it is the second portal. The only complaint would be that they didn't let you play more. I really found no problems with the Gamplay or Controls. I would have liked some extra things to do, and a manual to tell you what keyboard buttons do what, but that isn't part of this, it would be in another part of game development. I found no problems with anything here, and therefore give it a 10/10.
Difficulty: The game has it's hard parts, but I don't find it too hard to play. I loved every puzzle, and it made it a good game. It has really good ways of making a puzzle not too easy, but at the same time, you have to think about how to do something. There really isn't much more to say... The game wasn't too hard, but it wasn't too hard either, I give it a nice 7/10.
Addictiveness: The game is really addictive. I loved playing it, and had a hard time stopping. I looked forward to getting to the game, every day I could play. It was truly a good game in this category. But what made it addictive, you may ask. I'll tell you. It had easy controls, good voice acting, humor, and a great story. I also liked the mechanics of the game. There really wasn't much to complain about, especially since the game was really hard to stop playing. Because the game was really addictive, I give it a 9/10.
Overall/ Summary: The game was awesome, that is the long and short of it. I am a really big fan of Portal, and Half-Life. I started steam with this game, and I was never so happy to start a game. This game gets a 8.6/10. (This is just off the top of my head, so don't beat me up about the math.) Join me as we talk about the short but amazing game of Portal!
