I am sure that we have all worked some crazy jobs. Something about it just made it insane, whether it was the hours, the work that you had to do the distance that you had to travel or the people that you had to deal with. So come one, come all, and tell me about all these crazy jobs.

I do not even know how mine are going to hold up to some of the things that other people probably did, but I shall list the two craziest jobs that I have worked.

1. Liberty Steel. It was not the work. I was fine with the work, I could even tolerate the people. What I could not tolerate was working for 12 and 1/2 hours every night. 4:30 PM to 5:00 AM 6 days a week and they were trying to push for seven! I practically felt like a ghost...just passing from one day to the next. None of them were any different. All seemed to be the same.

2. Neff Perkins: Liked the hours, the work, the people. Here's the thing, it was almost an hour away from home! To top things off, I am not a licensed driver still! My poor mother had to drive me back and forth for three months! That was a fortune in gas! I at least made something of decent money.

So tell me about your nightmare job that you have had.

Hm. I have had many jobs.

Probably the weirdest, crazy as in these people are nuts, was the night stocker job. I had just moved across the country, during the holiday season, and no place was hiring. I got a graveyard shift putting up stock for like big wholesale place. my first day there i said hello im new and the other worker immediately told me he hated his job. Good thing to know on the first day! The workers there were really bad, they would break stuff and take drugs. I found out the one giving the drugs was the manager! I did not last a month there.

Craziest Job I ever had was working at an engineering company as a commercial electrician.
By that I mean I was an electrician on commercial construction sites, not that I played an electrician on commercials
I was there a year, working on a site for an HP data center being built.
We had a mandatory minimum of 64 hours a week, and usually we had to work more.
The work was taxing, as I was predominantly doing strenuous manual labor, rather than working as a, oh idk, electrician?
I generally worked 14 hour days during the week, plus 1 or 2, 8-10 hour shifts on the weekend.
The worst was when they would do a shut in, meaning you were there until work was done.
Which, could sometimes take 48 hours straight (I heard of one shut in that lasted a week at another site).
You got brakes, sure, but never really more than a hour or two, so you took a lot of naps
And nothing makes you more upset then spending a month on a project
only to find out you had to take it apart and redo it
because the foremen forgot piping was supposed to go there.
Or because he misread the blueprints, and it was supposed to be 3 inches to the right
3 inches!
I once had to break through concrete and dirt around 20 pipes, just to offset them 30 degrees
Why? Because the foremen misread where the transformers were supposed to be placed, and they were in the way.
30 degrees!!
A lot of people called it "Do it again Engineering" for good reason.
Still, the paychecks were amazing. I was banking when I finally left.
Had enough money that I went ahead and took off the month before getting another job, just to recuperate, lol

baileyface544 : That commercial electrician joke cracked me up. I feel for you because I did Heating, Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration for almost 10 years. I was a commercial technician for 3 of those years. By that I mean I was a technician for restaurants, meat packing plants, etc, not that I played a technician on commercials. (I'm gonna start using that.) bailey, I had never heard of a shut in, what a nightmare.

Doing HVACR that was excruciatingly stressful at times over that 10 years and I've been told I need to learn to recognize when to walk away from bad situations. I hung on to the job and career because of the pay. Anyways, in the summers sometimes it would be 110* outside for two weeks or more and those were the times I would end up putting in 75+ hours of work. I wouldn't necessarily mind working that many hours a week if the hours were pre-scheduled but I never knew when I'd finish working. It might be 7AM to 8PM or 6AM to 12PM. Also, I was on call every other week and have to go work on air-conditioners or freezers at all hours of the night. Several times I had to get out of bed and go work on something in the wee hours of the morning, like 1AM or 2.

The temperature extremes were brutal even in the wintertime. You'd think that working on heaters would be mostly inside but a lot of business's have their furnaces on the roof. So, I'd have to put a ladder to the side of the building (mind the ice). I can remember icicles as long as 1/2 an inch hanging from my beard and/or nose with wind chills close to -20*. Sometimes my fingers would freeze so bad that when they began to thaw the pain was excruciating. Also, if I wasn't diligent with hand lotion the skin, on my hands would crack and bleed. Some people might just say "You should've worn gloves", but a lot of repairs, especially wiring, can't be made with gloves on.

Another job that I had that was crazy was as a 3rd shift security guard at a grocery store. People do crazy things all day long but in the middle of the night it's more obvious because there are less people moving around. The final straw was when I almost got shot over a 10lb. beef roast. Another memory I have from then is when an old homeless man kept camping out at the front door and then wet himself several times. He hadn't showered for a while so the smell was overwhelming. He always hassled customers to buy him bottles of mouthwash to drink.

There have been several other weird or crazy jobs that I've had but I'll stick with these two because FaithFighter only listed two. The things we do for money and/or family can get nutty!

Wow, I never had any job like that, but I did work at a wildlife rehab center which is a bit odd in a way, though it was a lot of fun. Surgeries on pidgeons, taking care of stuff and so on.

I work customer service in a retail pharmacy and I wouldn't say the job itself is that crazy, but the people are. I'm also crazy for doing it for over a year.

People have zero concept of how things work, yell about the stupidest things, and get irate every time they don't hear exactly what they expect/want. Yes ma'am, I know you think you should be able to get an obscene amount medication at the copay of insurance that you haven't been on for years even though your doctor refuses to send refills on your medication. But that's not how it works. Then there's all the people who try to pull crap on you and make all these fanatical explanations about how YES, they *did* just pick up a month's work of painkillers, but it's two days later and some of them were eaten by the dog and some of them were vacuumed up and some of them fell down the drain. HOWEVER, you still need to wait or cry to your doctor and hope they believe your stories, because I can't do anything for ya. Quit makin' a scene.

I could write a book on the stupid crap I've seen/heard/been tormented with (I'd imagine anyone in customer service could). It's an adventure every day. I have a bunch of regulars who I adore though, and they make it worth it. My co-workers are also top notch.
