My friend has this when I was like, 10 years old, and we would play his Pokemon GBC games on it. I just can't remember if you needed an adapter, or if you just plugged it in to the thing in the back of the N64 controller. Does anybody remember?

thing1 : as far as I know, the early GBC games (like pokemon silver and gold) were actually original GB cartridges. so they will fit.

What you are looking for, is a Transfer Pack.

http://img.xataka.com/2011/11/nintendo64_transferpack.jpg

that should pretty much show how to use it. basically, you stick one end into the controller, and then stick the game cart in. then access the GB tower InGame.

I never had one. but I want one.

You needed a device called a transfer pack that would plug into your controller to play gbc games on your n64. You plug in the game in the transfer pack, though only a few games supported this and Pokémon stadium 1 and 2 were the only ones that actually let you play gb/gbc games (though only Pokémon RBY and GSC were playable). The transfer pack even let you use your Pokémon from your game boy games in stadium.

Sadly, Vizzed emulation does not yet support Transfer Pak functionality, though other emulators are able to do it with the right plug ins; all that's needed is the right rom and save file.

You basically need a transfer pack to connect to a controller in order to play Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow games on it. Too bad you are not able to do this through an emulator from what I know so far. Vizzed doesn't have the transfer pack feature for Nintendo 64 from my knowledge.
