Hey, Y'all Faithfighter here. I was just curious what everyone's favorite and least favorite holidays are, and why. Sandwhich your answers with the good on the top and bottom please, and the bad in the middle. I'll show you what I mean.

I Love CHRISTmas sooooo much!
I absolutley hate Halloween.
I hate halloween because it is a monument to darkness, in my opinion. Kids get dressed up--often, but not always--as some sort of evil thing. skeletons, ghosts, witches, devils, zombies, vampires, you name. All the little dressed up demons go out on a rampage when the dark of night falls. They use blackmail to steal what they want--cause if you don't give them candy...And before the light comes back they all scurry on home!
I love CHRISTmas because it is one of the the most joyful times of the year. It's always so much more fun when you got that white fluffy stuff falling from the sky. What is that called...Oh yeah snow! I forgot what it was...haven't seen any since last year! I love decorating the tree, putting up the lights and embellishing our house with a little more color than normal. While I love all this here is my favorite part. This holiday is the one that commemorates something very important to me. The love that my FATHER showed me when he gave me the best gift of all. Life, to be sacrificed later, love, his presence, forgiveness of sins. Peace on earth, goodwill toward men. And one more thing. Because of the thing we Christians like to remember on CHRISTmas, GOD calls me...son. To me that is the greatest gift of all. And to people who are offended by these things which I have spoken, who claim they are offended by nativity scenes or crosses and even the very name of the holiday. Don't think that you're gonna play that game and get away with it. If I can't have my nativity because you're offended--first of all, you're wussified. Second, I'm offended by halloween! Do you really want to play this game? Don't mess with the FaithFighter!

I love your post, but you probably ARE going to get a lot of slack for it. You're so lucky you've joined the forum now as oppose to a couple years ago.  The site's member-base is a LOT more tolerant and friendly.

There is already a thread for favorite holiday, but there isn't really one for least favorite, so I'm not sure how mods will treat this thread.  However, I do like the unique aspect.

Also, my answer would pretty much be identical to yours.

I love Christmas.
I hate Halloween.  As a younger kid, I didn't mind it and even participated in it, because I was raised in a non-religious household. However, once I became saved, I realized just how much there was to dislike Halloween. Halloween makes me sad.  So many people don't understand its history, purpose, and spiritual dangers.  That being said, I'm probably one of the most conservative Christians on this forum board.

Christmas is lovely though. I've never had a FAVORITE holiday, but this would be my favorite because my family loves it so much.  My husband and I don't put a tree up due to some biblical passages, but we allow his parents to bring one over in Christian love, understanding, and tolerance. They are, after all, our family in Christ as well as in the flesh.  The giving and festive atmosphere of Christmas is just wonderful for bringing family and friends together.

My favorite holiday would have to be Thanksgiving because it is a chance for my family to come together and eat together especially when I don't see my family that often.

My least favorite holiday would have to be Valentine's Day because it is a very overrated holiday to all couples. Single people can be happy as well you know!

Here in the Netherlands we have difficult parties, so I'll say which ones we miss or are different:

Christmas: The same as in the USA.

Old and New year's Eve: Also the same.

Valentine's Day: The same.

Easter: Again the same.

4th of July: We don't have that one.

Thanksgiving: We also miss that one.

Sinterklaas: Similar to Christmas, an old bishop named saint Nicholas gives presents and candy to kids while they are sleeping. They put their shoes near a fireplace with inside a drawing or food for the horse from Saint Nicholas, called Amerigo, and when they wake up they find candy inside like chocolate letters, marzipan, chocolate coins or cookies called 'kruidnoten' (which literally translated would mean herbnuts) and 'taai taai' (some kind of tough cake). Saint Nicholas has assistants called 'zwarte pieten' (black peters ) who have this name because they have to move through furneys so the ash makes them black, but lately there has been a discussion because some people think he's racist. Saint Nicholas comes from Spain and on the day he was born, 6 December, he returns to Spain. However, on 5 December there's 'pakjes avond' (presents night) where the kids get loads of toys and other presents.

Halloween: Not celebrated that much here, but we have...

Sint Maarten: This isn't celebrated everywhere in the Netherlands, but basically kids make lampions and sing at doors to get candy. Similar to Halloween.

So out of those I'd have to say I really like Sinterklaas, even though it's similar to Christmas it's the biggest party of the year and always the most interesting one.

The one I like the least is Valentine's Day. The idea is nice, but not everybody has a girl or boy friend, and I think you have to love each other every day, instead of having a day where you suddenly have to be a lot nicer than you normally do.

I probably love Xmas best. I look forward to it and it's just a fun time of the year. It's probably the only holiday that I actively celebrate, and I like the music, lights, decorations, and how much energy is in the air during the season. Giving gifts and seeing everyone is awesome, and it's a nice way to wind down the year. However, I don't enjoy the copious amounts of snow, the added stress/holiday depression that seems to afflict a lot of people, or folks getting self righteous about the whole 'Merry Christmas' vs. 'Happy Holidays' thing. That gets old really fast. I'm not religious at all and I'm not going to cry about it if someone says "Merry Christmas" or "God Bless You". I thank them, say "You too!" and go along my merry way. Likewise, I'd appreciate if people didn't get all uppity if some would prefer to just say Happy Holidays and not focus on the Christianity. Everything is as meaningful as you make it, and it's petty to make a big deal over something so well intentioned. It is a giant pet peeve. So those are a couple of downfalls to what is probably my favorite holiday, and I dread when those aspects come up, because they are tiresome.

I also love Valentine's Day because it's cute and fun and whimsical, and also pretty stupid. Even when I was single I liked it since it's just a silly thing to do. All the hearts and valentines and what have you. Also love is great and it's fun to celebrate, and boo to all the people who say it's not about that and blah blah blah. It's whatever you want it to be. It's a Hallmark holiday anyway, so it's true historical meaning is pretty moot to me anyway.

Halloween is kind of middle of the road for me. I loved it when I was young and everything was so exciting and all the costumes and trick or treating and stuff. Now as a young adult, I don't really feel the need to get dressed up as scantily clad versions of everyday professions and get really drunk at parties, so I could take it or leave it. It's cute and fun to see all the kids in their costumes and to give out candy or go trick or treating and I enjoy it, but it's not something I anticipate like I do with the aforementioned holidays.

Thanksgiving is also okay for seeing family and eating more food than I do in the rest of the year combined, and that's about it. I try to be thankful for things year round, so that aspect doesn't really do much for me. It's pretty uneventful besides eating and mingling, so it's whatever.

The 4th also falls in that category. Eating and mingling, + fireworks. Fireworks are great. But I enjoy freedom every day whether I think about it or not, so again, it's whatever.

I don't really care about Easter or New Years. Easter holds no religious meaning to me so it's just a day to hopefully not work and chill with family if I'm able. The candy and the eggs are a fun touch and I enjoy doing it, but it's not something I get giddy about months prior. It's more, oh, Easter is next week. Better dye some eggs.

New Years... I don't really party and I try to make a habit out of not giving myself intimidating goals that cling to me all year like a wet blanket, so it's just that time when I have to remember to start writing the date with a new year.

My favorite holiday will be Christmas because I can go out with some friends sometimes and we go to the movies or Central Park or the ferry and do all sorts of fun epic stuff. My least favorite would probably be the 4th of July, though that's just because I can never actually go out and do stuff, if I could get the time to go out and watch the fireworks each year, then it would be a blast, but not now.

KG : Just so you know, I do not mind if people want to say Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas; what I mind is that people who want to say "happy holidays" often want you to do the same. If you want to call it "Holiday" Instead of Christmas, go ahead. It's not my business. But don't think that you're going to make me say "Happy Holidays" instead of Christmas. Just because someone in the world doesn't like it. That's all

FaithFighter : Yeah, I read you. I think people should say what they're comfortable saying on both ends. It's a shame when parties have to make it into such a personal issue, which it's really not. I've heard it from both sides, and it's just as dumb. I don't care how people celebrate or what they say as long as they don't nag at others to do the same. The only reason something like that would be offensive or insensitive is because you *make* it that way. So I agree. But I digress, my pet peeve isn't the point of this thread.

So far, looks like Xmas is winning the favorite holiday poll. I can't say I'm surprised.

Christmas, obviously! I always go on vacation to some fun place whenever that time of the year comes around! The worst? Probably Arbor Day. Oh boy, more PSAs about trees, like we don't see that year-round regardless?
