I saw this movie two days ago and I have to say that I was impressed by it. This was one of those films that I decide to watch at the last moment, usually with no interest in the movie whatsoever. That was the case with this one, I had seen the trailer many times, and I told myself that something like that wouldn't really interest me. The only reason I ended up seeing it was because of Liam Neeson, who I have a great amount of respect for.
Because of Neesom being the star of the movie, I went into the theater with a small amount of expectations, though once the movie had ended, I had seen a lot more than I had hoped for. Overall, the movie was beautiful. Of all the movies I have seen this year, I haven't seen such a good suspense/thriller movie since I saw Prisoners a year ago, and I would easily classify this movie as one of the 3 best I have ever seen in this genre.
First we have to go over the effects of the movie, though the effects would be the least entertaining aspect of the movie since there are only a few that would really count as good. The movie does not have many great effects because it does not need any really, in fact I believe that any more super action scenes or explosions or whatever had been added to the movie, that a lot of the quality would have been taken away. With a movie like this, you need good acting, music, and dialogue, but not effects. The movie is fine without super graphics and I am going to give this aspect a B.
Next up we have the acting, which is what I feel made this movie so awesome. First of all there is the great Liam Neeson who is known for being amazing when it comes to movies of this genre. He excelled in the Taken movies, he had done a great job in Non Stop earlier this year and he has worked on so many movies that had propelled him to stardom. Heck, if he hadn't done so well in these roles, then he wouldn't have been signed on to do a Taken 3. It's true, he has been nominated for dozens of awards but has never won one, but his career has been awesome enough to classify him as a legend, and this movie is enough to prove that because his role as Matt Scudder was phenomenal. I personally loved his acting in this film, and I even read a few articles that had said this was one of the best movies of his career. After 2 billion dollars in lifetime movie grosses, having a new movie listed as one of your best means something.
Other than Neeson, the cast isn't that special. The rest of the cast include Sebastian Roche who is only really known as a cast member of General Hospital, Dan Stevens, and Boyd Holbrook. Still, the cast members all pulled together one heck of a beautiful performance, worthy enough of an A.
Next we have the music, which is almost just as good as the acting in some cases because when you have a suspense movie such as this one, the music is what's going to set the stage, and the music for this one did just that. The soundtrack of the film had been conducted by Peter Pejtsik and he had done a great job making the movie more dramatic every minute through the use of his music. The music is dramatic, it's scary, and it's energetic. In other words, it's an amazing soundtrack and deserves another A.
Next up we have the story, which is also what made the movie so awesome for me to watch. The movie is about Neesons character, who is kind of like a secret PI. He begins investigating the kidnappings and murdering of family members and loved ones of wealthy drug traffickers. The movie takes a few odd turns as he tries to put together the pieces and as he fights for his life.
Overall, like I had said earlier, this is one of the best suspense movies that I have ever seen, and if you are the kind of person who likes a good suspense movie, then I suggest this movie because it's a one of a kind film with a bunch of noteworthy scenes and acting. Though if you are the ind of person who wants a ton of fights and a bunch of awesome effects, then you might not want to watch this unless you are a huge fan of Neeson as well. Overall, I had thought that the movie was beautiful and for an overall grade, I am going to have to give this movie a 90 out of 100, it's really that great of a movie.
