I, like many other people, have seen the new character intros. I'm quite excited about new characters like Charizard. But, I feel like it's going to have a rough time on the market. Why, do you ask? Well, it seems like they've yet again fallen into the trap of straying too far form the series norm, especially with characters like Little Mac and Rosalina. I think they've tried too hard to make the title a stand out and different from the others, and also they tried too hard to make each character play differently. There is also the fact that they seem to be adopting the Skylanders statues. I think this will hurt the game A LOT, since this is a complete 180 from what the series is supposed to be, since I don't think players are going to want to blow another fifty dollars to collect all of the characters. What do you guys think?

I highly disagree. You really think Little Mac is going too far? Punch-Out!! is an extremely popular/famous NES game, and countless people have requested that Little Mac be in the game. Yeah, he's a professional boxer. Why not have Rocky Balboa, right? But Smash Bros. is a fighting game, he fits very well, and I believe a few of his moves are unrealistic (e.g. Giga Mac).

Rosalina & Luma though... I actually do agree with you on that one. Lately Nintendo has been taking ignored characters from the Mario Franchise and recycling them, especially with Mario Kart. Rosalina is in Mario Kart games, and in Mario Kart 8 they have
every single Koopaling. I don't really like the idea of Rosalina & Luma being in Smash Bros., but they could be fun to mess around with. And at your comment about them trying to hard to make each character play differently and making it different from the other games in the series... I think they're trying, but not too hard, and they've done an excellent job of pulling it off.

Skylanders? You really think Amiibo will make the game like Skylanders? First off, Amiibo is completely optional. You don't need to buy it. It doesn't unlock new characters, all it does it make CPUs that learn from you and go up to level 50. You only need to buy it if you're really good at the game but don't have anyone to play with. Plus, Nintendo is going to be using Amiibo in lots of games, not just Sm4sh.

I highly doubt this will hurt the game at all, it's not even that different from what Smash Bros. is supposed to be, and players don't at all need to buy the Amiibo figures.

Super Mega Man 568 : Personally, I sort of wish that they would stick to the original character sets of the first smash bros. Mario, Samus, Donkey Kong, Kirby and the like. They could include more characters from the different sets, but I think that all the characters that they keep shoving in there are a little needless.

I don't think it's a bad path they're taking. In fact, this is the game that finally swayed me to be excited about getting a Wii U eventually. And even better than that, it managed to finally get me interested in a series that I hadn't cared about since the original game's release.

And I love that they're trying to mix it up a lot, for two reasons. First off, the series began with a game that shocked all of us beyond belief. never in a million years would we have imagined that game being released. And second, we had so many carbon copy games this past generation (and we still haven't gotten past the flood of them) that it's extremely refreshing to see someone fighting the trend and boldly taking risks by making changes.

As for the Amiibo? Ehhhh yeah, I'd best hold my tongue on that one, lest I offend someone who thinks they're good. Suffice to say I don't like them.

I can see your concern though. At least it seems like the game is doing well now. Hopefully Nintendo manages to bounce back soon.

TheFadedWarrior : I'm not at all against Little Mac being in the game, but I think that they are trying a little bit too hard with the power meter. And, when I say that the game is trying too hard, I'm saying that characters like Pacman and Mega Man have moves that you probably wouldn't have seen in Melee or Brawl, all in the sake of making Pacman feel completely different.

I think this is still following the trend of each installment being better and better than the last, or rather the next installment sells better than the last. While you may like Melee over Brawl, numbers don't lie. Brawl sold more than Melee. I do like that there IS more variety in characters in Smash 4, so it can lead to more replay value. Sure, Lucina, Falco, Dark Pit, and Dr. Mario are clones, but they're more of semi-clones, and Smash 4 still has less clones than Melee or Brawl. All I really have planned as of now doing (besides unlocking all the characters and stages) once I finally get my copy of Smash 4 this Friday (this was typed on Sept. 28, for those of you from the future) is playing the hell out of Lucina (in her Cordeila or Tharja alternate color palette) once I unlock her. I like how Lucina has become the "Waifu" from Awakening, having Lissa, Nowi, Cordelia, Tharja, Cherche, Tiki, and Sumia alternate color palettes. No Anna or Olivia, though, but I think female Robin has an Anna color swap...

And Amiibos? They're optional. You don't NEED them to play the game. Honestly, I see them as a figurine with an added bonus. The only thing that I feel they did wrong was making the roster for the 3DS version and the Wii U the same. Just because the 3DS can't handle a character (like the ice climbers) but the Wii U certainly can, doesn't mean that they should just cut the character entirely. Hopefully the DLC rumor stuff actually comes to be. Also, FaithFighter? Are you saying you want 11 original characters, and the rest of the roster to be based on those 11? Sooo... you want MORE clones? Er... that's quite the unpopular opinion... usually everyone gets pretty upset if a clone is announced. I mean, that's your opinion, and I respect that.

I don't think it will flop. I do, however; think that a lot of people will be disappointed with the game, myself included. The removal of any kind of story mode event mode, or Download Play is sad. And Smash Run disappoints, as well, from what I've read and seen. However, this does not take away my intent to buy the game. I fully intend to get it as soon as I'm able after it comes out. The tweaks to the gameplay are awesome, and the Demo was brilliant, yet quite limited. I guess how much you enjoy the game will depend on how much you enjoy the core gameplay of the series. If you liked Brawl's story mode much more than brawling against friends, this might not be your game. But if you like a good free-for-all with more balanced gameplay than ever before, then go for it!

Me having seen competitive players from Melee and Brawl via VGBootCamp, Smash 4 actually won't be anywhere near bad in my honest opinion. Sure, it may look slow in competitive pace right now, but the metagame will soon develop for the Wii U version so fast that will develop about at least 3x faster than Brawl and will last about 3 quarters of Melee's 13 years of competitive tournaments. That's for the competitive scene, though.

For the main modes? I do miss the classic Break The Targets stages but it seems that it looks like how Angry Birds works with the launching but with Home Run Contest physics. Seems pretty awesome. I didn't really mind not having a story mode, but it seems to have actually been removed for the better; characters are more properly balanced because of NAMCO Bandai working alongside Nintendo, and the fact that now all the returning characters (including stupid Meta Knight) are buffed in a way in either one move or several moves. Lucario has a massive aura buff change so his recovery improves with more damage up to about 250-300% but I wouldn't know that, Jigglypuff (She's so cute now.) now has a better Bair which is now a kill move and her rest can now kill at around 30-40% but still has the upward angle. Plus, she is now even better with the slight changes in the physics, and Falco Fox now can't self destruct by doing side-B off any platform, and they can't go into free fall using said move. Falco, Fox and Jigglypuff, long live the 3 Melee gods.

Can't wait for the Wii U release, and it's been confirmed to release in November in America which means I am very close now after 4 months without online play for Smash Bros. I can't wait for that game so I can show how far Falco and Jigglypuff can go in the metagame.

Oh yeah, I saw amiibo and hated it, but as long as it isn't in online multiplayer I'm fine with it

And hey, I'm up for something new, I'm not gonna take the same thing over and over

I know that the game will have many copies already sold for all of those people out there who are complete crazed fans of the Super Smash Bros series. It may be a bust. It may be a flop. Or who knows it might just be one of the biggest and highest populated games by players all in the game, We don't know but for the sales already they seem to be big many people are trying to get their hands on the game's demo on their 3DS's. So we just need to watch and see what everyone says about it.

Well, it seems the game was a huge success. It sold over 2.8 Million copies, so... I guess they did a good job then! So, what's your opinion on it now? Do you still think these things, or have you changed your opinion now that the 3DS version is out?

I have to agree on that it seems stupid and cheap to give Little Mac an advantage that gives him an Instant KO. And many will say that being able to customize your characters is cheap too, but I like to think that it gives players the chance to create their own fighting styles with their favorite characters. however, I do think the equipment will give fighters too much of an advantage, but luckily, the customization feature can only be enabled for Local and Playing with Friends. Also the series has a long history of clone characters that I don't think will ever change. Personally, I am going play it and i know I am going to enjoy it.

Ok, I just wanted to clear a few things up. First of all, I really think they're making a HUUUGE jump with the new characters, and even the re-vamps of olds ones, mainly because I think they've tried to change the all around fighting style of the game, which I don't think the public will be very happy about. I also want to clarify the "sales" you all speak of. I just want to remind you that, in the past, games have had great sales pre-release and soon after release. Then what happens? The sales decline because players decide it isn't that great of a game. So, we should really wait a few months before we venture into the topic of sales. And also, those graphics, people! I'm not usually one to comment on the quality of graphics, but a lot of people are, so I really think the graphics are going to hurt this game. Not because the graphics are poorly done, no way, they're amazing. But they went for a cartoony look, instead of the staple realistic graphics. Just look at Brawl. Brawl took the time and effort to make everything three-dimensional and not flat. And the result was quite realistic for a game with fantasy characters. Smash 4? It looks like the Looney Tunes game, and I don't think gamers are going to take this very well.

Gameplay wise, it's better than Brawl. I'm a bit sad the 3DS version lacks some modes like target practice, but otherwise it's a solid entry. Plenty of other people think so too, since Smash 3DS sold 2.8 million copies as of October 7th

"Characters play uniquely"

You say that like it's a bad thing. Besides, not like there aren't clones. Mario/Luigi, Marth/Lucina, Pit/Dark Pit, Link/Toon Link, Captain Falcon/Gannondorf. Plenty of clones, man.

Rasenganfan2 : Number one, we shouldn't make judgements off of sales yet. Like I said before, for all we know, the sales will plumit next month, next week, heck, even tomorrow. This wouldn't be the first time it happened.

And I'm not against characters playing uniqly, but when they start changing the basic gameplay (Little Mac, Rosalina), I'm whole heartedly against it. When you start messing with the thing that, quite literally, MADE a game, series, and even franchise, then you're kind of kicking a hornets nest.

Rasenganfan2 : Mario and luigi are def not clones. You could have said mario/Doc mario

How have they change basic gameplay. They've done something new everytime with characters.

Smash 64 to melee: Added Side B moves. Put 2 classic characters that most haven't heard of ( ICs and G&W)

Melee to brawl : Added final smashes, assist trophies and changed some moves

Brawl to Smash 4: Took out transformation and added custom moves. Took out ICs. Added in DHD and LM as the new retro characters,

mourinhosgum : How have they changed the basic gameplay? Well, dude, look. Was there ever a charge meter before Little Mac? Nope, in fact they've mostly stayed away from charges. I'm not against the customizable characters, either. Actually, I love customization. The thing I'm against is the fact that they're trying to change the feel of combat. Characters like Little Mac and Rosalina have made it a lot more gimmicy, which, I have to admit, the series has done a lot before, but right now they're taking it a bit too far. Playing as Little Mac you start to feel more like you're playing Super Punch-Out rather than a watered down and copy-right filled Mortal Kombat.

Isn't that the point. Also, they brought a cool throwback to  Super punch-out. And it's gimmicky?

How is rosaluma gimmicky, She is basically like the ICs except funner and can make cooler combos imo

mourinhosgum : This isn't Super Punch-Out, and, I'm sorry if I seem hard headed, but I don't want it to feel that way. And, Rosalina doesn't seem to fight. It feels more like you're fighting as Luma, and Rosalina is there for looks. The moves seem stupid, too. :/
