I'm humiliated because I made this thread and I don't want any more people to see what was originally in this post. I was complaining about things that are fair and the problems have already been solved. I'm going to quit being a baby and I'm staying in JROTC.

What did you think JROTC would be...?

It's the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps.

You HAD to think there would be more army application, even in high school. They are preparing you for what the actual ROTC is.

The Army isn't a nice place. So these retired Army guys are going to kick your ass, and beat you down. It's how they weed out the weak and harvest the strong. If you are afraid to do 25 pushups, then the Army, ROTC, or JROTC is not for you.

"As I said, I can't do a push-up properly, so the 25 push-ups thing scares me to death."

This is unimportant. If you can't do a push up properly, then you cannot do a push up properly. This is a fact. But Army people don't care. If you cannot do a push up, you probably aren't suited for the Army.

Are you a chicken if you drop out of the JROTC? Possibly. But you joined the JROTC for impure reasons.

"To be honest, having to take JROTC or Boys Phys Ed and the fact that there would be girls in JROTC were my motives to join it."

Joining a class, simply because there are girls in it, is a good way to sabotage your own education. You should take classes that fit you the best, or are the most interesting on a conceptual level.

For example, in high school, I took Home Economics. Not because there were girls in it, but because I genuinely wanted to learn how to cook, since I envisioned living on my own for a large portion of my life. This skill has come in handy after high school.

Honestly, my best advice, given the information you've given me is to do one of two things.

The first thing, and the thing I'd advise most, is dropping JROTC, and taking Boys Phys Ed. It seems better suited for you, and honestly, you'll probably be happier, even if there are no "girls" in the class.

The second thing, if you are committed to staying in the JROTC, is to stop making excuses and to just do as you are told. You have autism, sure, but I know plenty of people with autism who have managed to accomplish things they are passionate about. You have to want to succeed and to want to accomplish a specific goal. If it's tough, deal with it. If you can't do it, do it anyway. It's going to be an uphill climb and defeating yourself before you start climbing isn't going to get you any closer to the top.

legacyme3 : I didn't know what JROTC stood for the whole time. Thanks for telling me. I've known for years that I'll never be suited for the Army, and it's not something I want to be a part of.

I was in more of a hurry than usual to make this thread, so I left out some important details. I'm well aware that my Autism doesn't affect most of the stuff I mentioned in this post. And I'm not trying to get out of doing anything, I'm only trying to get my instructor to understand me more so that he can do what he needs to do to help me change.

"You should take classes that fit you the best, or are the most interesting on a conceptual level." This is crazy, I know, but JROTC actually does fit me the best, and it interests me more. After I joined, I learned about what everyone would be learning and practicing, and I had more motives to stay in it after that, such as it making me a better citizen, and it helping me get a good start to high school.

If I take Boys Phys Ed, I'll almost definitely be less happy because I had a great opportunity to get a lot of help with changing so much for the better and it will be even less fun.

I never made any excuses in that class, and I know I'll make things worse if I do. My parents were the ones who told my instructor about my Autism, not me.

What I'll most likely tell my instructor is that I learn slower than everybody else, and I have more to work on than they do so I'll be trying my best but I might still not do well like you'd expect me to. Every teacher finds out how hard-working and effort-making I am and they expect me to be like everybody else, so I have to clarify that.

PacmanandMariofan : Don't worry about the stuff in Jrotc. Not everyone is made to be in the army or be able to hold up to army standards. There's plenty of people that would not be able to do it. I'm not sure that I could. So if it's a little more than you expected, don't sweat it. Keep trying. I have actually been doing some push ups lately. I was wondering what the struggle was with that. It could be your positioning. If the army trainers will let you, try keeping one foot on the ground and crossing the other one over it. Also, you might want to try pulling your hands closer or farther away from your body. Also, try to think of a reason that you would want to stay, and use it to drive you. As far as the freezing up bit goes. I can definitely see the embarrassment. And while this might not seem like a message from someone who has been in your situation; do not let those moments define you. Pick yourself up from the dust, and remember that there is always someone who can help. You might say...I know a guy that can help. HE's the best...Concentrate on the moments that allow you to redeem yourself and try to spot more of them. Finally, life is not about being as good as everyone else. It is about being the best that you can be. Whether you're good at sports, or school, or creating layouts. Find your groove and maximize it. Guard your weakness, hone your strengths. Find a way to get through the days that are just overwhelming. And if you find that it's just too much for you to handle. Hey, you tried. But don't walk away from that camp unless you can say that you gave it your absolute best. Cus' if you quit before giving your best; you will probably regret it later on, and that regret could be even more stressful than what you are facing now.

FaithFighter : Read the edit to my first post in this thread. I've been practicing proper push-ups with my dad and I've been doing things to make me stronger inside and outside. So far most of everything is working out fine. I know who you're talking about who can help, and I recently began attempting to be a Christian again. Being a true follower of Christ at last will give me the help I need.
