Final Fantasy X-2. I have yet to figure out why people hate on it so much, beyond perhaps it having three women as the protagonists? Sure, it's not the best Final Fantasy out there, but it's nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be. I personally think it's a really good game, with a good story, good art, good combat, and a fun class-change system. I like how it builds off of what Final Fantasy X started and actually ties up most of the plot-hole loose ends that were left in Final Fantasy X. That usually NEVER. HAPPENS. The soundtrack was JUST as good as for the original, and I liked seeing Yuna growing up and into herself a bit more, becoming more opinionated and independent. It was nice and a refreshing change from the GIRL IS MARTYR SELFLESS MAKE YOUR HEART HURT HERP DERP that is so classic to the Final Fantasy series. It also gives you an ending that I think 99% of the people who played Final Fantasy X were hoping for and never got, so that's another bonus. And hey, any game that lets me see Kimahri again being his stoic blue panther self is a plus. I love that big old fur ball, I really do. This one might be pushing it, but I consider all of the Star Wars games one Franchise. Many people haven't heard of Republic Commando, but I really think it's an awesome game! Also, The Force Unleahsed: Ultimate Sith Edition, and The Force Unleahsed II. (I know, I know, all Star Wars.) Also, The Force Unleahsed: Ultimate Sith Edition, and The Force Unleahsed II. I really liked Halo: ODST. A lot of people liked Reach, and very few liked Wars ( I am one that hated Wars ), but I actually liked ODST, even if it did not have anything to do with the Master Chief Saga. It answered a few of my questions that I had about the series. It answered a few of my questions that I had about the series. |

I'm definitely going with Final Fantasy X-2 as well. It's mainly just fanservice from Square Enix, to the fans who didn't like the ending to Final Fantasy X. Although, Final Fantasy X-2 was still a really good game. For one, the Garment Grid was much simpler to use than the Sphere grid in Final Fantasy X. The multiple endings were pretty interesting, too. Oh, and Paine. Paine is my bae.
NintendoFanKimmy : I actually think it's the fourth Generation in Pokémon that was the worst. Diamond, Pearl and Platinum were really boring to me, with the plot of platinum only starts to get going after the fifth gym, the slow pace of battling was dull, and the long saving times were dreadful. The fifth Generation redeemed a lot of it by adding all kinds of new features which were all interesting. NintendoFanKimmy : I actually think it's the fourth Generation in Pokémon that was the worst. I really enjoyed Super Paper Mario. The game got a lot of hate, since it was a platformer and not an RPG like the original and TTYD. I really liked the concept of the 3D mode, the characters were great, and the humor the previous games had was still there. Some of the enemies and items were lacking, but the gameplay was fun and different. I still prefer the previous two games over this one, but I don't dislike this one. The paper Mario game I do dislike is sticker star. I'll be honest, I haven't given it a chance yet, but the concept really doesn't appeal to me. There are a few off the top of my head, but the first one I will go with is SIMONS QUEST for the NES.
Sure there is that annoying day/night transition that everyone points out after watching countless YouTube personalities rip on it and there are a couple of hard things to figure out, (which was the norm for the NES days...YOU HAD TO FIGURE IT OUT) Other than that, it was a decent enough game. I liked the fact that they tried to do something different and introduce some more RPG elements. Overall it's a solid title. Not my favorite of the NES CV titles by any means, but certainly isn't a HORRIBLE game. Shadow the Hedgehog.
I'm am coming out with a review here shortly, and let me just say that the game is pure awesome. All the way through. Yeah, swearing in attempt to up the edgyness is absolutely pathetic, but I never had a problem with the words Hell, or Damn either. (Sure losses the impact though when they say it all the time.) The characters are great (outside of Sonic. . . Amy acts better than him in this!) The Chaotix get more development and I love Espio's new voice! The game itself is purely fun when the environments, and story development are combined with a branching story. It's a game that I would highly recommend to anyone who loved SA2, and the darker side of it. If you liked that, and Shadow himself, if you want more. GET THE GAME! If not, you might be disappointed. (not sure how Sonic 06 fans would view the game, or at least those who liked it for the concepts) I'll have a full review out shortly, maybe I'll even submit it today. But that's all I have to say about the game. I loved it. Gamin'Gal : Really? I thought Black Knight was fine for a shorter, less polished game. yeah, it's not as good as it could be, and is kindof cheap at times, but once you get passed that, it's pretty good. At least that's what my siblings tell me. I didn't really get to play the single player, and yeah, it's lower in quality, but it sure is fun. Jordvan78: I hate it when people online hear about a retro game, try it out, and then criticize it on not telling you what to do as if it were made today. Furret : I didn't actually play Super Paper Mario much, but I did watch my siblings, the story is great and all, but I felt like it shouldn't have been a Paper Mario game, I mean, it's a sidescroller and all. And I agree the game at least looked fun, it's just that fans are expecting. . . at least the core of a formula to remain consistent. I felt like this game should have forgotten the paper aspect, and been a one timer with it's own graphic style. After all, outside of a few enemies, and Mario's friends, it's all a new graphic style anyways. Either that, or everything should have been altered to fit how Paper Mario is really played. I don't want what happened to Sonic to happen to the Paper Mario series, but it already looks to late. Erinn : Would you shoot me if I said. . . Zelda II? Another game that I always hear get ripped on and I'm not quite sure why is Super Mario Bros 2.
Now I know I've mentioned this before in other threads, but hear me out. When Super Mario Brothers 2 was released in the US. Me and my friends were almost soiling our pants when we saw it. Why you ask? Because the colors were bright, the graphics were awesome and there was a whole new expansive world to play through with new enemies that we had never seen before. Not only that, you could play as several different characters, which was also a new(ish) idea for an NES game for its time. This is a solid title. Is it as good as the original or 3? (SMB3 is one of the best games in it's generation so that's not even close) but it certainly is a worthy successor of the original. It's a solid game. It always irritates me when people try to play the revisionist history game where now that they know SMB2 is a re-brand of Doki Doki panic, they get all upset. Thing is, we didn't know that it was a re-branded game. We just knew that it was mario like we had never seen before. Honestly, if we had seen the Japanese SMB2 (Lost levels) we wouldn't have been interested in it. Because it's basically the same exact game as the original SMB with different levels and increased difficulty at some points. I can tell you that none of us would want to spend our 40-60$ of our hard earned allowance/birthday money/etc gone to the same game that everyone had. Who cares if they re-branded a game that nobody cared about into SMB2? Now I know I've mentioned this before in other threads, but hear me out. When Super Mario Brothers 2 was released in the US. Entry #2: Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life.
Now I understand that this one was the best selling HM of the series when it released, but go into Harvest Moon forums and you will find so much hate for this game it's pathetic. The reason it's hated? It tried something different. I said this recently in an SMB 2 review, but it's true: people complain about Video Game series putting out the same old stuff over and over, but the truth is we want them to be the same with each iteration. The proof? Everytime a game tries to radically alter things in the series it catches tons of hate and is ultimately rejected by the fan base. SMB 2, Zelda II, Dino Crisis 2, and HM: A Wonderful Life for example. All great games in their own right (though I'm not a fan of Zelda 2 myself, it isn't as horrible as people say), and most of them are favorites of mine, but the fans hated them because they weren't just more of the same stuff as before. Sword legion : Psh of course not! What self respecting Zelda fan(?) would shoot someone over liking Zelda 2? We wouldn't dream of it. *stabs SL with Master Sword* That's what we would do. Seriously though, I really didn't like it, but I plan to try it again sometime. I definitely respect your opinion though. Myself, I didn't enjoy many of the Zelda games prior to Minish Cap anyway. I'm weird though. Also, I have to wonder if coloring my name pink was an intentional play on Zlinq and stream users mistaking me for a girl for whatever reason (likely how close it is to the girl name Erin). Jordanv78 : I couldn't agree more. While SMB was a good game, SMB 2 really piqued my interest as a kid because of the colors, new gameplay, and whimsical worlds and music (that music is --forgive the term-- epic to me). Also I LOVED the new enemies, they were just awesome. Honestly had we gotten Lost Levels as our SMB 2 I would likely have lost interest in the series because I would have assumed they would all be too hard for me (I was only four or five) and the same old thing as last time. In fact when All-Stars came out and we saw Lost Levels, my siblings and I lost interest quickly and actually said "It's just the first Mario game with harder levels", we just assumed it was levels they removed from the first one it was so simillar. And even today SMB 2 is one of my favorites, in fact I think it's probably my favorite NES Mario title, largely due to the aforementioned reasons, also because it tried something bold and new for Mario. I can't get enough of the game myself. Eirinn : You know, honestly Zelda 2 is a cool game. I thought the overworld stuff could have been a lot better, and the controls a little tighter, but I liked the fact that they tried to add more RPG elements to Zelda. I also liked the boss battles a lot. Was it one of the best Zelda titles? no, not by any means. But it is a solid game and a game that fans of retro gaming should check out.
As far as Super Mario 2 goes, we felt similar with regards to "Lost Levels" just seeming like the same game that everyone owned and everyone had played. We wanted something different. Super Mario 2 also introduced a lot of the enemies that lived on in the series still to this day. Sadly a lot of people complain about these games because someone on Youtube did. I like Sonic and the Black Knight, and Super Mario Sunshine. I understood why they are regularly bashed, but I had a lot of fun with them despite their shortcomings. Sonic Black Knight I liked for almost all the same reasons Gamin already described. As for Sunshine, I just had a ton of fun with it. It was something weird and different, which was what it was going for. And Bowser's voice is so bad that it becomes something of a work of art. Eirinn :
XD That was so funny. XD It made me laugh in real life, few things said here ever make me do that. XD XD But anyways, nice to hear you're enjoying the game now. I really wish there were more like it. Gotta love that combat once you get past the learning curb. I swear no other game has been as fun as this swordplay wise. I just really love it. Jordanv78 : Well, I used to use "bad games" I had heard about as examples of what not to do, then I actually played those games myself and found out that I liked them. As of such, I've pretty much quite judging games before I play them. I guess you saw my Shadow the Hedgehog review, and I think you know what most people think of that game. I think people decided to quickly join the crowd and bash on something just to be faster accepted into the group. A user of this : Just curious, since you didn't list it, what did you think of Shadow the Hedgehog? And is it a bad Omen that I just bought Sonic 06 moments ago? XD XD That was so funny. Dark knight of the blackened sun. I am Sword Legion, one of many. My mask is thick, and my armor is strong. All the more necessary in a world such as this. . . |

Sword legion : I thought it was going to suck badly. But, it was surprisingly good. I actually enjoyed playing it! All the damn "damn"s weren't too bad, the story was 90% non-canon, and I really liked the chaotix levels! Sword legion : I thought it was going to suck badly. But, it was surprisingly good. Quake IV, I really enjoyed the campaign but no one talks about it except for that "one extremely graphic scene" Prince of Persia Warrior Within. Yeah, Sands of Time is the best but I enjoyed this entry. Mega Man 5. 1-3 are always talked about, the first being the first, and the 2nd and 3rd being argued the best. 5 is overlooked. It's really good. Goldeneye on the Wii. It gets hammered for not being as extraordinary as its N64 predecessor but it's a great game in its own right, and definitely is not a Call of Duty rip off like many think it is. Phoenix Wright Trials and Tribulations. It's my most favorite one of all the DS games (followed really closely by the first one). Finally Dead Space Extraction. It's the best rail shooter I've ever played and had several ideas I don't think have ever been used before or after. Prince of Persia Warrior Within. I liked the tales of series. It didn't seem too popular outside Japan--actually, it seemed rather underrated. |

Sword Legion got it right, Shadow the Hedgehog (while not a franchise -yet-) is an amazing game. I don't really see why people don't enjoy the game all that much. It has a great plot, great fights, and it isn't that repetitive (as many people have said it is). Plus, it was a whole new kind of sonic game, with all different kinds of gameplay and all of that. It really has always confused me how people didn't just love the game. And to agree with Sandvalanche, I LOVED the goldeneye games for the Wii. All of the other James Bond Wii games too. I feel like they are all underrated, I loved them so much. It really has always confused me how people didn't just love the game. Maybe it is just me being naive or the fact that I haven't played a lot of the other games in the Final Fantasy Franchise, but I thought that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn was really fun, yet a lot of people had hateful feelings about it. I am sure some of it started with Final Fantasy XIV before they revamped it and re-released as A Realm Reborn, but I still got a kick out of a more modern 3D game-play since playing Final Fantasy VII. Am I comparing Final Fantasy XIV to Final Fantasy VII? Not really, but for the most part those are the only games I played long term in the Franchise and I really like them both. The things I didn't like about the new dynamic game-play vs the turn based battle was the arogant and rude people that sometimes played and didn't cut the newbies any slack. I started out with a Tank class because I liked the ground and pound mentality to fighting, but I did not realize how many roles the Tank class assumed. Everyone seemed to complain why I wasn't attacking right or not marking targets, or this or that. It made it a bit confusing, but I still loved playing. My favorite parts were the massive scope of the MMO with people from all over with common goals. The dungeons were fun working in teams and really helped to break up some of the leveling points grinding. The support classes were also neat as they increased the number of roles you can take throughout the game. Definitely a fun game in my book. Am I comparing Final Fantasy XIV to Final Fantasy VII? Do not hate on me for saying this, but, I like Zelda II: Adventure of Link. Yes, it gets very difficult and frustrating at times and yes it is not at all like the other games in the Zelda franchise, but, that is not a bad thing at all. I really enjoy challenging games like this and i am sure that if it was not a Zelda game and just a new franchise it probably would have been liked more since people were too used to the original Zelda. I see how people could feel uncomfortable with the game because when you think The Legend of Zelda, you think top down dungeon crawler, not a 2D sidescroller rpg game. |

I would probably have to say Mario Kart Double Dash. Because of how it played, for the most part. |

Sandvalanche : You're aware that most people actually like Phoenix Wright Trials and Tribulations the most in the series? The ones that most hate are Justice For All and Apollo Justice. I haven't played a lot of Justice for All yet, but I played and Apollo Justice and loved it, although I can see why people don't like it as much. Apollo is kinda like a more sarcastic Phoenix, the third case is pretty long and the villain is kinda boring, Phoenix had a total personality change and has been unemployed for 7 years just playing poker all the time and some more things. Still, I thought the cases were pretty clever, there were enough interesting people, the defendant from the second case is a pretty realistic character actually and Apollo his mentor, Kristoph Gavin, is my favourite character of the entire franchise.
