Tetris 2 for the Nintendo Entertainment system. A much awaited(at the time) sequel to the now legendary Titre's. Was it worth the wait? For the most part yes, but there are a few little problems with it. The first problem I noticed about it is that graphics wise, it looks a LOT uglier than the original NES, and it doesn't even look as sharp as the unlicensed Tengen version. This is disappointing considering that this game came out nearly 4 years after the original game, so one expects to see at least some graphical enhancement. But instead it looks kind of drab and uninspired. The second problem is that the music is really quite generic. The original NES licensed and unlicensed Tengen version both had fantastic musical scores that you could not help but get into, and even the Game boy version had some kick ass tune age. Tetris 2 has 3 different musical numbers, but none of them are really appealing. I really think that Nintendo should have kept the original Russian styled music in the game, or at least composed some new tunes for the game in the same vein. The third problem is in the actual game itself. Whereas the first game s main objective is to line up all the blocks to make lines and keep them from reaching the top of the screen, this one has you matching up the different colored blocks to little bombs of the same color. To beat the rounds, you have to clear the screen of all the bombs. If you let the blocks build up to the top, the game is over. It's not all that hard but there's been many a time where I'd make a mistake positioning a block and it would totally mess things up. And also there's been times where I'd clear a screen and not know how I did it.
So in conclusion, its not a bad game, but it's not nearly as good or addictive as its predecessor. I'll give it a score of 70.
