This is the guide that I started typing the other day, and I lost half way through. It is a strategy guide for Super Mario Bros. I will give you a list of item locations for every level, as well as any tips and/or tricks. Let's get started!

World 1-1

Tips and tricks:
- If you go in the fourth pipe, it will lead you to a secret room underground that has a lot of coins in it. It also allows you to bypass a lot of the level.

Locations of items:
- There is a mushroom / fire flower in the second question mark box that you encounter.
- There is a 1 Up in a hidden box right after the fourth pipe
- The first question mark box that you encounter after the fourth pipe has a mushroom / fire flower in it.
- The second of the two connected blocks in the middle of nowhere has a invincibility star (also know as a Starman) in it.
- The top question mark box in the formation of question mark boxes that has 3 on the bottom and 1 on the top has a mushroom / fire flower in it.

World 1-2

Tips and tricks:
- After the formation of blocks that looks like a W, there is a group of blocks that you can only get under if you are small. If you break them and jump up, then go over one, then break all of the ones above you, then go to the left one, then break the blocks above you and jump up, you can run above most of the level.
- The first pipe that you encounter leads to a secret room with a lot of coins in it.
- If you go above the pipe after the second set of elevator thingies, you will enter a warp zone that will take you to either world 2, world 3, or world 4.

Locations of items:
- There is a mushroom / fire flower in the very first question mark box that you encounter.
- The top right block of the group of blocks that looks like a W has an invincibility star in it.
- The top right block of the group of blocks that looks like a backwards J has a mushroom / fire flower in it.
- There is a 1 Up above the last block in the group of blocks that is 6 blocks long and 2 blocks high.
- The last block in the group of blocks in between the two elevator thingies has a mushroom / fire flower in it.

World 1-3

Tips and tricks:
- I don't know any.

Locations of items:
- The first and only question mark box has a mushroom / fire flower in it.

World 1-4

Tips and tricks:
- Try to jump over Bowser right as he is coming down from his jump.

Locations of items:
- The first and only question mark box has a mushroom / fire flower in it.

World 2-1

Tips and tricks:
- The middle block in the group of blocks at the top after the second pipe has a vine in it. If you climb the vine, it will lead you to an area with a lot of coins and allow you to bypass part of the level.
- The third pipe leads to a room with a lot of coins in it and it allows you to bypass a small part of the level.

Locations of items:
- The middle block in the first group of blocks that you see has a mushroom / fire flower in it.
- There is a hidden block with a 1 Up in it right before the second group of blocks.
- The first question mark box that you encounter has a mushroom / fire flower in it.
- There is an invincibility star in the first block in the group of blocks in between the first and second pipe.
- There is a group of 3 pipes, 2 big ones on the outside and 1 small one in the middle. There is a group of blocks above them. The first block in that group has a mushroom / fire flower in it.
- The block right before the pipe before the spring has a mushroom / fire flower in it.

World 2-2

Tips and tricks:
- If you are small and you walk along the ground, the Bloopers can't get you. If you are big and you crouch, the Bloopers can't get you.

Locations of items:
- There are no items.

World 2-3

Tips and tricks:
- Running straight through as fast as you can does work sometimes, but I find it much easier to take your time.

Locations of items:
- There is a mushroom / fire flower in the first and only question mark box.

World 2-4

Tips and tricks:
- Try to jump over Bowser right as he is coming down from his jump.

Locations of items:
- The first and only question mark box has a mushroom / fire flower in it.

World 3-1

Tips and tricks:
- The second pipe leads to an underground room with a lot of coins, and also allows you to bypass part of the level.
- The top right block in the group of blocks after the spring has a vine in it. If you climb up the vine you go to an area with a lot of coins and are able to bypass a large part of the level.

Locations of items:
- The third question mark box that you encounter has a mushroom / fire flower in it.
- There is a 1 Up in a hidden box on the bridge.
- The first block that you encounter after the bridge has an invincibility star in it.
- The second question mark box in the area with the Hammer Bros has a mushroom / fire flower in it.
- There is a mushroom / fire flower in the bottom right question mark box in the area with the four question mark boxes that are surrounded by blocks.

World 3-2

Tips and tricks:
- Take advantage of the turtles. Use their shells to wipe out a lot of enemies and once and rack up a bunch of points.

Locations of items:
- The first question mark box that you encounter has a mushroom / fire flower in it.
- The second block that you encounter on the top has an invincibility star in it.

World 3-3

Tips and tricks:
- I don't know any.

Locations of items:
- There is a mushroom / fire flower in the first and only question mark box.

World 3-4

Tips and tricks:
- Try to jump over Bowser right as he is coming down from his jump.

Locations of items:
- There is a mushroom / fire flower in the second question mark box that you encounter.

World 4-1

Tips and tricks:
- I recommend just trying to run straight through the level at full speed.
- If you go down the third pipe, it will take you to a secret room with a lot of coins and allow you to bypass part of the level.

Locations of items:
- The first question mark box that you encounter (on the bottom) has a mushroom / fire flower in it.
- There is a 1 Up in a hidden box above the third question mark box in the group of four question mark boxes that are in a row.
- The third question mark box after the third pipe has a mushroom / fire flower in it.

World 4-2

Tips and tricks:
- The first block after the first elevator thingy has a vine in it. If you climb that vine, it will lead you to an area with a lot of coins and then to a warp zone that will let you warp to either world 6, world 7, or world 8.
- The third pipe leads to a room with a lot of coins and allows you to bypass part of the level.
- If you jump above the main area of the level after the fourth elevator thingy, you will go to a warp zone that warps you to the fifth world.

Locations of items:
- The last block in the first block formation has a mushroom / fire flower in it.
- There is a mushroom / fire flower in the middle question mark box in the group of 3.
- The last block after the tall pipe with 2 blocks on either side of it contains an invincibility star.
- The middle block of the middle group of blocks in between the two sets of elevator thingies has a mushroom / fire flower in it.
- The first block after the last elevator thingy has a mushroom / fire flower in it.

World 4-3

Tips and tricks:
- I don't know any.

Locations of items:
- The first and only question mark box has a mushroom / fire flower in it.

World 4-4

Tips and tricks:
- Go on the top the first time that you have to choose, and the bottom the second time.
- Try to jump over Bowser right after he is coming down from his jump.

Locations of items:
- There are no items.

World 5-1

Tips and tricks:
- Take advantage of the turtles. Use their shells to wipe out a lot of enemies and rack up a lot of points.
- The pipe that is above the ground leads to a room with a lot of coins in it and allows you to skip part of the level.

Locations of items:
- The middle block in the first group of blocks has an invincibility star in it.
- There is a 1 Up in a hidden block right before the second group of blocks.

World 5-2

Tips and tricks:
- The first pipe leads underwater, and you can do part of the level underwater instead of above water if you would prefer that.
- There is a vine in the top left block where the second Hammer Bro is that leads to an area with a lot of coins that lets you bypass part of the level.

Locations of items:
- There is a mushroom / fire flower in the far right block of the first formation of blocks on the top.
- There is a mushroom / fire flower in the second of the 2 blocks that are close to the ground after the three black turtle bug thingies.
- The block right before the third pipe has a mushroom / fire flower in it.

World 5-3

Tips and tricks:
- Remember that you can jump on top of the Bullet Bills.

Locations of items:
- The first and only question mark box has a mushroom / fire flower in it.

World 5-4

Tips and tricks:
- Try to jump over Bowser right as he is coming down from his jump.

Locations of items:
- The first and only question mark box has a mushroom / fire flower in it.

World 6-1

Tips and tricks:
- I recommend trying to just run straight through if you can.

Locations of items:
- There is a mushroom / fire flower in the first block of the first group of blocks that you encounter.
- The first question mark box of the second group of question mark boxes that you encounter has a mushroom / fire flower in it.

World 6-2

This is an extremely confusing level with a lot of pipes that lead to a lot of different places. I am sorry, but I cannot figure it all out. I do know that the first pipe leads to an underground room with coins, that one of the pipes leads underwater, and that there is a vine somewhere. I am really sorry, but I cannot really help you with this one. It is too hard to try to figure the entire level out since there are so many pipes. Even if I could figure it out, it would be impossible to explain.

World 6-3

Tips and tricks:
- Remember that you can jump on the top of the Bullet Bills.

Locations of items:
- The first and only question mark box has a mushroom / fire flower in it.

World 6-4

Tips and tricks:
- Try to jump over Bowser as he is coming down from his jump.

Locations of items:
- There is a mushroom / fire flower in the first and only question mark box.

World 7-1

Tips and tricks:
- Remember that you can jump on the Bullet Bills
- The second pipe leads to a room with a lot of coins.

Locations of items:
- The first block that you encounter has a mushroom / fire flower in it.
- There is a 1 Up in a hidden block right above the second pipe.
- The block above the spring has a mushroom / fire flower in it.

World 7-2

Tips and tricks:
- If you are small then you can walk across the ground and the Bloopers can't get to you. If you are big, the Bloopers can't get to you when you crouch.

Locations of items:
- There are no items.

World 7-3

Tips and tricks:
- Go slowly and take your time.

Locations of items:
- There is a mushroom / fire flower in the first and only question mark box.

World 7-4

Tips and tricks:
- You are going to have to make 6 choices about which path to choose. Go bottom, middle, top, top, middle, top.
- Try to jump over Bowser right as he is coming down from his jump.

Locations of items:
- There are no items.

World 8-1

Tips and tricks:
- Take advantage of the turtles. Use their shells to wipe out a lot of enemies and rack up points.
- The fifth pipe leads to a room with a lot of coins.

Locations of items:
- There is a hidden block with a 1 Up in it in between the second and third pipes.

World 8-2

Tips and tricks:
- The third pipe leads to a room with a lot of coins in it.

Locations of items:
- There is a 1 Up in the block right above the spring in the beginning of the level.
- The second block in the group of blocks in between the second and third cannons has a mushroom / fire flower in it.

World 8-3

Tips and tricks:
- I don't know any.

Locations of items:
- There is a mushroom / fire flower in the second to last block on the top row by the first Hammer Bro.
- There is a mushroom / fire flower in the second block on the top row by the second Hammer Bro.

World 8-4

Here are the order of the pipes that you want to go in: Third, then the fourth one after the one that you come out of (should be raised above the ground), then the third pipe after the one that you come out of, then continue to beat Bowser. Good luck!

A lesser known tip is that unless you warp to the level, the hidden 1-up won't show unless you get all coins in the *-3 level before it.
