Do you have to do homework over the summer? I do. I hate it, but it has to be done.

For my Honors English class, I have to:

- Read the book "Tuesdays with Morrie"
- Annotate as I read
- Write 6 paragraphs about aphorisms in the book

For my AP History class, I have to:

- Read like 150 pages in the textbook
- Do outline notes for those 150 pages
- Define like a million words (More like 60, but you know what I mean)
- Answer like 40 questions

I'm probably not going to start until a week before school starts lmao.

No, i don't have to. From what i've heard, nobody at the highs school i'm going to does, either.

I never had Summer Homework because I changed schools almost every year. The one year when I did not change schools, I did not have summer homework. 

I have summer homework, I have to read two books, and review them. One has to be non fiction (into the wild) and one fiction (from Russia with love)

Barathemos : That shouldn't be too hard. Reading isn't the hard part (at least for me), it is all of the other stuff that I have to do. And Vizzed has given your plenty of experience with reviewing, so you should be fine.

Last year my school "forgot" to tell me that I had summer work, so I had to do it the first week of school. And it was a lot too. I had to read 4 chapters in a textbook (each chapter being 30 pages or so), do outline notes, define like 150 words, and color and label 7 maps.

tgags123 : I am not exactly someone who likes to read,and I can't read slowly, so I really dislike it and take forever.

Thankfully I don't have anything to do over the summer, I am taking AP psych next year, but that class doesn't have a summer assignment. What I plan on doing is buying the AP exam book for it and then looking it over and getting familiar with important topics and terms so that when school starts, I will already be ahead of everyone else and I can get the year off to a good start grade wise. 

Last year and freshmen year were different for me though, mainly it was summarizing paragraphs, reading articles, learning vocabulary and stuff like that. If you keep taking courses like that, you will just get used to it. Good luck, and do your best not to procrastinate too much!

Psh, summer homework. I remember the days when that was all I had. Now, my summer has been the busiest time of the year school-wise. I'm doing at least 4 hours a day, and have been doing more recently as I'm trying to finish College Alg within a month and a half of starting it.

Haha! All you younger guys that are still in middle or high school...I never had any summer homework when I was in school. Well, I guess that is not entirely true...every end of July or so I had to get in shape for football season. Yep, that was my only homework...working out for football. They didn't start that summer reading thing until...guess when...the year AFTER my senior year. I never had to read a book over the summer in my life, and it would suck if I did. The reading part of it would be okay for me, but its the reviewing part of it that I would have trouble with. You guys have fun with that!

I have summer homework. I have to read 2 books that they did not even give me the list to and I could only remember 1. So I am not even going to read the other one.
 
I am also so happy this is the first year I have to do summer homework but it is also the first year where students do not need to do a report on the books. This happened because the teachers got tired of grading them.
 
So ya all I have to do this summer is read 200 pages and maybe another 200 but you know I do not even know what the other one is.
 
(Keep in mind this is for advanced classes I only MIGHT be in next year so i could just read the book for nothing.)

When I glanced over your post, I thought each bullet was going to be an assignment and I was thinking about how insane your teachers must be. LOL!  Then I read through it and felt a little better. XD

I loved Tuesdays with Morrie!  It's an easy and short read from what I remember, so that shouldn't be so bad. Have you actually started it yet?

It actually doesn't sound like you have that bad of a load.  I don't recall ever getting summer homework, but that doesn't mean my memory isn't faulty.  Actually, the first time I heard of it was as a teacher.  Almost all the AP classes in our school assign homework over the summer, but even if it was one page, 90% of the kids won't do it. The sad part is that they know (through reputation and word of mouth), that passing the first nine weeks without doing the packets are almost impossible.... and yet they don't care enough to do them.

I actually think summer packets are a good idea for a math class simply because kids forget everything over the summer.  I always wanted to give one and never did just because I never had the time to create one.

School and summer? DOES NOT COMPUTE! No and the idea of it is insane, in fact only one of my teachers gave me homework regularly in 9th, she was also the most hated teacher, did I mention she openly stated that she hates kids?

When I went to school, I don't think I ever had any homework in between times of years, like that. If I did, though, it would be very exhausting. I'm sure I'm going to get plenty of that now since I'm going to College, though.

tgags123 : This is totally unfair. We are prisoners of School. It's not fair, we work like 10 months a year and then we suppose to have break for 2 months not that they give us 'summer work'. It's so annoying and unfair. Yes, I do have. Just to read some books that's all

Pfft, oh please I never really did the summer homework when ever I got it. I was always too lazy to do it. I would only do it half way when my mom would force me, she would lock me in my own room and wouldn't let me out until I finished it or if I had to go to the bathroom. She would even take the video games and T.V. out so I wouldn't be distracted by it. This was only grade school through middle school. I attempted to do a summer project that was given during high school but got distract with work and my one week vacation to Florida. In general I just didn't take my summer homework seriously at all.

I was reading through this thread, and then I remember something from 10th Grade English: 

I had transferred that year, and I was on the school's record, so they told me I had to read a book. I ended up reading it, but since I was not a part of the school the entire Summer Break, when the school year started, the teacher just made me take a test on the book, instead of doing the whole project. XD 

I had forgotten about that. I caught up with some friends on Facebook who reminded me about that, and were all upset at it.  

I don't have any homework to do in the summer. My school doesn't assign any homework during the summer. I do remember back in grade 8 in middle school, we were assigned to read at least one book over the summer and take an online test on it. That was the only time I really had homework over the summer, and that was pretty simple to do. Other than that, I don't get any summer homework.

Oh my god, this stuff happens? Sh-I mean, brustlesprouts! No no no no, this can't happen, ever, not going to allow it. Wait, seriously, are ere requirements, cause I don't want summer homework.
Well, I'll assume that I need to do something to get it...
