I'll take a stab at tomorrow's results. I'm guessing Germany wins against Argentina 3-1.

I don't see tomorrow's game going beyond ninety minutes. I have full confidence in Germany's ability to dismantle the Argentinian defense.

EideticMemory : I pretty much agree with you. Germany is one of the most well rounded teams I've seen. They don't rely on a group of 2 or 3 people. Argentina is a good team but their defense can be easily broken by the Germans attack power. My estimate is that it'll be either 2-1, 1-0 or 2-0 for Germany. They deserve this victory overall. They've been consistent and I feel as though they want it more than Argentina.

If Argentina wins it'll be crushing for the Brazillians because of their huge rivalry. If Germany wins they'll be the first European team to win on South American soil.

I'm pretty happy about the end match up.

play4fun : Technically the Brazil vs Netherlands shouldn't have gona that bad. The score should have only been 0-1. The first penalty shouldn't have been a penalty. The foul happened outside the box and Robenn took a dive as always (really don't like him). The second ball was clearly off side. Netherlands still deserved the victory since they tried a lot harder. Brazils defense was absoloutely shoddy. Their offense could have also been much better. First they blamed it on not having Neymar and Silvia and now that they got Silvia they blame it on not having Neymar. Their confidence was lacking.

Blubcreator : Remind me if I'm wrong, but Neymar is not a defender, right? It's not even his primary responsibility to hold back close to the goal and not let anyone pass. Why would he even be part of the blame of Brazil's bad defense? Even if he was there, it wouldn't have helped that much.

play4fun : You're correct Neymar is a striker. They're just finding some reason to blame for their poor performance. It can affect their defense in some ways but not drastically. Maybe if they did have Neymar they could have scored a goal and given them some confidence in which they were lacking a lot of. But in the end they have no one to blame but themselves. They can only go so far relying on 1 player.

What Brazil are trying to get someone to blame for their own demsie at the world cup. well that hasn't happened before can't you tell my sarcasm. The last time Brazil hosted the world cup they got to the final against Uruguay and they lost. Who did they blame. The goalkeeper. It isn't surprising in the least to hear Brazil trying to find someone to blame because they always do it. Can't admit there own team is bad.

The third place play off was just a repeat on how bad Brazil is. The Netherlands destroyed them and the dutch didn't even need to do much as Brazil gave the ball away too easily at times. the second goal was a gift from the Brazil defense and funnily enough a Netherlands defender (Blind is his name) scored the second. the third was coolly slotted in and all I can say is well done Netherlands. You crushed Brazil's hearts to pieces.

The final I will have a random guess and say 3-1 Germany. The Germans are just too good and I don't think Argentina were that convincing after that semi final which has got to be one of the most boring matches I have seen in a world cup. Though the Iran Nigeria match was worse. i think it will be a good game though. I am going to see Dundee FC vs Manchester City before the World Cup Final which also should be a good match.

Crap, I have been gone for too long but I will try to tell some things about the matches:

Blubcreator : You were completely right with you predictions about the quarter finals! That's amazing

Brazil-Columbia (2-1): Brazil did somewhat good here but I was surprised to see Columbia putting up such a good fight. Okay, Thiago Silva scored the first goal but from a corner and later on he got the second yellow card, so he couldn't play against Germany. David Luiz had a good shot however. But Brazil its style is awful. All they do is blocking the players with dangerous fouls. They played awful and although they won, it wasn't a good victory.

Netherlands-Costa Rica (4-3 penalties): Wow, I was surprised that Costa Rica put up such a fight. W didn't play too well. Navas, the goalkeeper from Costa Rica did incredibly good this match. But Tim Krul saved us with his spectacular saves but it was a bit embarrassing to see him walking up to players and saying 'I know in which corner you're going to shoot'

Germany-France (1-0): I didn't see this match but I heard Germany did alround better.

Belgium-Argentina (0-1): Well, I'm sad to say that Argentina won, they did good and their goal was nice but I was rooting for Belgium. They had great chances and Courtois his save against Messi was spectacular. I was also surprised to see Messi his free kick went over the goal as his other shots so far were way better.

Germany-Brazil (7-1 ?!):  Oh god. This match was shocking. Everybody was baffled when Germany made 5 goals in less than a half hour. It was to be expected though since Neymar and Silva couldn't play for Brazil.

Netherlands-Argentina (2-4 penalties): NO!!!! It's sad that we lost. Both teams fought really hard and Robben had a great chance in the 90th minute but if you look back at that moment you see that Van Persie was also standing free but Robben was too selfish to pass the ball. Ron Vlaar did also excellent this match, he stopped a lot of chances. And this time we had Cillesen in goal who had never stopped a penalty before and after this he still hasn't. That last ball was close though, it's sad that Romero stopped Sneijder and Vlaar his shot.

Netherlands-Brazil (0-3): Our most interesting match, Blind and Weijnaldum scored, both didn't in any of the other matches. Even with Silva in their team Brazil wasn't that good but they had some decent chances.

And the finals:
Germany-Argentina (1-0): What an exciting match!!! Both teams had way too many chances but it was one of the best matches ever and Goetze his goal was outstanding. Messi had a few chances but it wasn't enough to win.

That's it, it was quite an amazing world cup and I'm happy that we ended third winning from teams like Spain and Brazil. We did very well and many teams did very good.

Well I randomly picked Argentina from a hat full of teams, so my run to the world cup finals in my office pool was a good one. Unfortunately, the one person who I didnt want to have Germany did, so they are going to be rubbing it in my face for the next week or 2. I definitely wont enjoy that part, but oh well, it was all luck. Originally the pool was to pick who we think is gunna win the world cup, and I chose Germany, but the rules were changed when I whole bunch of other people joined the pool. Funny how these things turn out.

Messi Does not deserve the Golden ball. Just cause he's messi doesn't mean he needs to win something every year. There are much better players on his team like mascherano and Di maria. Or give it to One of the germans like Lahm, Muller, Schweinsteiger or Schurle

mourinhosgum : I felt as though the only person who deserved it more than him would probably be James Rodriguez. There's probably 1 or 2 but Messi did perform well in most of his other games. But it can be argued that there are a handful of other players who deserved the Golden Ball. What I'm surprised is how the German goalie won the Golden Glove. He is an excellent goalie but I think that should have gone to Keylor Navas. However I don't think Lahm, Muller, Schweinsteiger or Schurle really deserve it. Maybe Muller but they played very well don't get me wrong; however that award should go to someone who was outstanding. You have to feel for Messi though; he couldn't even bring himself to smile when he was getting the award.

EideticMemory : "Brazil have Neymar, Argentina have Messi, Netherlands have Robben and Germany have a team.". That pretty much sums up exactly what I've been saying this whole time.

Here's my analysis. The match was very exciting right from the get go. However Argentina biggest mistake right from the beginning was how they played there defense. It was very tough to get around and they were playing it good. However they were defending to deep and with the Germans you DO NOT want them to get that close. The Germans were in Argentina's goal area for a lot of the game and the Germans made some excellent shots just barely blocked by the keeper. Argentina 's second flaw was Messi's performance. He did not deliver at all. He stood around midfield just waiting to get the ball. He barely made any attempt to get it at all. Granted when the Argentine did get the ball they ran it down quickly and skillfully down the field most of the time and gave the Germans quite a scare. The biggest highlight of the game was the two shots the Argentine had. The biggest was the once in a lifetime open goal shot Higuain magically got. No defenders, goalie is caught off guard, as close as you can get to the net and he manages to make the shot wide. Then there was the opportunities with Messi. He got the ball there perfectly but his finishing ball was less than satisfactory. Despite best efforts Germany just deserved this game more. Even when they had to make a last minute substitute because of a warm up injury which really sucks. You work so hard and can't even play in the finals. They substituted Kramer who then also got injured. Schweinstagger practically got beaten that got whole game with all the fouls done to him. He got stitches and got right back into the game. The Germans pushed harder and deserved the victory overall. But in the end Argentina played excellent despite there flaws. It's a shame that they lost 1-0 because of all the opportunities they missed there are going to be a 2-3 players blaming it all on themselves.

Overall I'm really happy with the outcome and thought this was a very enjoyable world cup. Here's to Euro 2016 and FIFA 2018.

OK firstly Well done Germany you definitely deserved to win the world cup this year. They were world class the whole way through and unlike other teams in this tournament Germany actually have a soccer team. Argentina played well throughout the match and they should have scored as well. it should have at least been 2-2 at the end of the match. The match was very good. The first half didn't have a lot of chances but it both teams did some good plays. The biggest chance has to be when Higuian was one on one with the German Keeper and completely missed the goal. Germany had a few good chances that the keeper did well to save at times. the second half wasn't as good as the first half and I can't remember much from it. Extra time 1st half was great both sides had very good chances and it was almost end to end action. the second half was mainly Germany once they had scored. Klose's goal was very well done. Germany deserved the win and will now have 4 stars on their shirt. Some England won't be happy. It makes their 1 star seem insignificant now. Amazing World Cup and it will be remembered for years to come.

I'm just glad that it is all over now and to Euro 2016 in France in two years time. On to next season and who do Scotland get. Germany. NOOOOOOOOOOO! Great just great we get the world champions for qualifications for the European Championships AGAIN. Why?! To me a draw would be just as good as a win to me. Oh well lets hope the Scottish teams do decent in Europe this year. Aberdeen beat a Latvian team 8-0 so lets hope Celtic, St Johnstone and Motherwell do good and at least get to the Champions League/Europa League. Next season here we come!

I'm not surprised that Germany won the final, they looked like they deserved it throughout the competition, but Messi getting the Golden Boot really angered me because he didn't deserve it - He was shut down more often than a Windows Vista computer (no hate to Vista, I actually like it).

Overall the tournament was exciting until we hit the quarter-finals, which were a borefest for most of the matches; The Semi-Final was all about Brazil 1-7 Germany, that's it. Brazil got destroyed more times than a fox in the depths of FA (Vizzed to those who get the bad joke). The Final was rather boring too, only Goatze's goal was the highlight in my opinion and I'm glad that he scored too - I didn't want to see the final won on penalties, it's a sad way to end an amazing tournament with a roulette of shots.

Most of the group stage matches were sublime, opening up with a Brazilian own-goal just for Brazil to, undeservingly, win the match. Netherlands v Spain was the biggest match of the group stages, in terms of shock, and the Spanish collapse wasn't expected - Even my non-football friend, who I was playing pool with at the time, understood what the result meant and applauded every goal for the skill - even the shot against the bar!

Having seen some of the biggest teams collapse at the first hurdle, especially England, proves that anything can happen; England were woeful, Rooney has proven (again) why he shouldn't be picked for England, even Gerrard wasn't up to his high standard (this coming from a Liverpool fan). Italy had bitten the dust, didn't show why they're a big team anymore - they're past it. Portugal, with their Ronaldo, proved why they're just a weaker version of Argentina and will never amount to any great success if they rely on Ronaldo alone.

Surprise packages were plentiful; Costa Rica, USA, Switzerland, Mexico, Colombia mainly. I would of loved to see Costa Rica get into the semi's, but they got out of "the group of death; Italy, Uruguay, England" is just an achievement on its own and anything after that is a big bonus. USA and Tim Howard, and the rest of the squad, have shown why America needs to take football seriously - They've got the players to go far, who knows what they could do in 2018
Switzerland provided some great grit and determination, just imagine if they got to the Quarter-Finals over Argentina? Mexico and Colombia, they've got higher expectations for the next World Cup.

In all; The 2014 FIFA World Cup has been amazing to watch, one of the most memorable World Cups since 1994, even with some controversies like Suarez and diving (not together, but it's likely too ) and the protesting before the World Cup started (amongst other things about Brazil that their country/media try to cover up).
Brazil brought the World Cup to it's spiritual home, even though they got humiliated at the end of it, the fans, players, staff, everyone need to be proud of themselves for showing the talent and showcasing a wonder few weeks - They've got the Olympics in two years time, high expectations to say the least!

I am surprised that Germany won it all. When the USA made it out of the Group Stage, I thought they might have a chance at winning it all, Well, that did not happen, now did it?

But good win, Germany. Hats off to you.

thing1 : wow....you really must have never followed the World Cup before this current one if you thought that USA had a chance to win it all. They still have a long way to go, even though the collapse of some of the world class soccer teams make the USA more likely to be a top 10 soccer team in the world, they are nowhere close to being favorites in the world stage. Being able to get out of the group of death is a positive because no one expected them to get out from it. So it shows that they are better than before, but not favorites.

Germany was definitely not a surprise of winning the title. They were strong throughout the entire tournament and they have such a deep team that no other team had, from their starters to their bench. There were teams that I know are more evenly matched against Germany, and that included Argentina and France, but Germany just continues to show they are machines of soccer, displaying their dominance against Portugal and Brazil with huge score differentials, showed their consistency by never losing a match this entire tournament, and showing their versatility when the record holder for most goals in the World Cup history is someone that is on their bench.

play4fun : Honestly, this was actually the first one I somewhat followed. I think 2 others I have heard people talking about while they were going on, but I never payed them much attention. So your accessment would be correct.

And I was in a chat room about a week ago... One person said that if they work on their defense a little more, instead of mainly focusing on attackers, and they can somehow get a health Tim Howard back, seeing as how many expect him to be retired by then, that the USA could be serious contenders...
What do you think about that play?

thing1 : They definitely can become contenders, but that's only because of how they performed this year with the new German coach's system, and it's not the defense that they need to work on, but their offense. Their performance this World Cup shows that they don't take possession of the ball most of the time and they let the other team stay on their side of the field and keep attacking, so to see that the teams have a hard time scoring with all of that going for them is tell us that the defense can hold its own, but with if the other team keeps attacking, it gets harder to defend. It's up to the offense to take that pressure away from their defense and give the opponent more attacks, and the US at their worst haven't shown that.

Obviously Tim Howard needs to stay healthy which is doable, but 4 years is still a long time, and he's been in the World Cup for a couple of times now.
