The World Cup starts less than a month from now on June 12th. This thread will be dedicated to the stats and discussion of it. These are the current groups that have been set. Their stats have been divided like so:

Looking at Group G I can clearly see that USA stands no chance. It's practically laughable at how badly they are going to get destroyed. England may have a little challenge but Croatia and Italy shouldn't be a problem.

12/06/2014 - Brazil Vs Croatia as the first match. Take your bets! I think Brazil will be advancing but they've lost some good players giving Croatia a chance.

Highlights - Brazil scored on themselves once and got 3 goals after. However this seems as though it was an unfair game because of the dives Brazil kept taking.

13/06/2014 - Mexico vs Cameroon , Spain vs Netherlands and Chile vs Australia . I think everyone's more excited about seeing Netherlands go head to head with Spain after the defeat in the finals of the last world cup. This game is no doubt going to be the most watched aside from the final stages.

Highlights - Biggest highlight is the Spain vs Netherlands match. Spain was crushed and devastated with the 1-5 loss. The 1 goal being a penalty. Holland plays rough but if they had eased up a little around the box it could have easily been a 0-5 defeat. Chile also proves itself as an honorable mention for a side team. It shouldn't be taken lightly with it 2 goals in 2 minutes. Australia put up an amazing fight taking possession of the ball in the second half. It played great and gave Chili a challenge in the second half however it wasn't enough. Even though they came exceptionally close they lost 3-1.

14/06/2014 - Colombia vs Greece, Uruguay vs Costa Rica, England vs Italy and Cote d'Ivoire. Go England destroy the Italians!

I will call it in advance: Brazil wins everything. If not, Italy wins everything. My claims are totally off-base, and very likely incorrect. 

sop281 : I can see Brazil and Italy making it to quarter finals but I don't see them winning them winning it all. Especially if Germany plays the way they did last cup.

England's coach decided to put Rooney on again which sucks. But we have Theo Walcott who's an absolute beast.

This will be just the 2nd time that I watch the world cup. I will be cheering for US, England, and Italy.

You can dump on United States all you want but England won't make it out of group either.  I think U.S. will have a better shot of getting to the round of 16.

I'm excited to watch Brazil at home.  The Samba Kings are going to roll everyone and get it done.  They'll win big, they'll win impressively, and they'll win with joga bonito.  It will be beautiful.

Yay go England! I love the world cup I've always watched it from when I was young, its in the family. Anyways good luck to other countries as well! ^-^

There are also two big club matches tomorrow in Europe
In the evening, Real Madrid play Atletico Madrid in the first UEFA Champions League Final (the most prestigious match in club football) to be played between two teams from the same city
It is being played at the Estadio La Luz in Lisbon, Portugal and will feature many world cup starts including Portugal's Ronaldo, Thiago and Pepe, Spain's Diego Costa, David Villa, Raul Garcia, Koke, Mario Suarez, Isco, Cassillas, Juanfran, Ramos and Arbeloa (Xabi Alonso misses the final through suspension), France's Benzema, Brazil's Marcelo and Filipe Luis, Coatia's Luka Modric, Germany's Sami Khedira, Argentina's Di Maria, Uruguay's Godin and Cristian Rodriguez, Belgium's Courtois and possibly a few others
Winning the Champion's League is worth something like $150 million

However, earlier in the day is another match which is the richest match in club football being worth in the region of $300 million to the winners
It is the Championship play off Final to be held at Wembley Stadium, London between Queens Park Rangers and Derby County
The winners earn the right to play in the English Premier League next season (which is why it is worth so much money)
A lot has been made of the fact that Queen's Park Rangers' squad is more expensive than Atletico Madrid's

As far as the World Cup is concerned, I would not be surprised to see Brazil versus Spain in the World Cup Final on the 13th of July

Destifen : Lol yeah we know they won the FA cup. But she was claiming that they won the world cup. I'm still laughing. I haven't been watching club soccer or the premier league as much lately though.

I don't think Brazil will be making it to the finals. Their best players aren't really giving it their all these past few years. They may get to quarter or semi finals but I highly doubt they'lll get to finals.

Blubcreator : I agree with what you are saying about Brazil and I wouldn't have them even in the Semi Finals if the tournament was being held in Europe
However, no-one should ever under-estimate home advantage
The host nation won the World Cup in 1930, 1934, 1966, 1974, 1978 and 1998
With a couple of good results, the Brazilian people will get swept away in football mania and push the team beyond its capabilities

 I'm just going ahead and say: This might be the first World Cup (That I'm going to watch, of course) that I see no favorites. Even though Spain won the last World Cup, I don't see it as a favorite this time (It's not like Spain was a favorite in 2010 or anything, but still). I'm also going to agree on the Brazil thing: They can get through the Group, but reaching the finals? I'm going to be surprised if they do.

I'm expecting some surprise on this World Cup. Probably another country that never won a World Cup is going to win. But hey, that's just me.

Looking at groups Group A Brasil is going to win for sure and Mexico will struggle but most likely get to the second round, group B it will be Spain for sure and maybe Australia, Group C I don't know much about but I'm guessing it will be Colombia and Japan, Group D it's a struggle between Italy, England and Uruguay, I think England is going to be the one team struggling to surpass Italy or Uruguay, all I know about Group E is that France is going to make it, Group F, Argentina WILL make it (Cheering for Argentina), Group G I'm sorry but USA is going to struggle aimlessly against Germany and Portugal, Group H my guess is Russia and South Korea. Groups D and G are going to be pretty interesting to watch those are the Groups I will probably follow. (because I already know Argentina is going to make it)

I am not a fan of foot ball so the world cup does not inspire me, but I do wish you all to have a good time and enjoy yourself and your teams win.
