Look at all the leaves!

How silently they sway…

Perhaps all they need

Is a little joke today?

It could make them happier,

And maybe spice things up a bit,

And make this dull tree livelier.

C’mon Kimmy, go for it!

And so I tell the joke,

And wait for all the laughs,

Yet all I see is folks

Taking off their hats.

As I sit there, quite confused,

It hits me upon one reply

That I’d been such a stupid fool

And hurt a lot of these guys.

And so I make a dumber move,

And escape from all the ‘hate’.

I return later trying to improve,

Yet I fear it may be too late.

A lot of you leaves still continue to wilt,

And I’ve lost a friend, I fret.

All I feel at this point is painful guilt,

And infinite regret.

How many leaves I’ve hurt is hard to tell,

And I’d much rather not count.

Against my intention, you all fell

To the cold and bitter ground.

And though I plunged you leaves into a lower shelf

I’ve hurt no one on this tree more than myself

For the worst I’ve had to suffer,

Since that one disastrous joke

Was watching all of my friends suffer.

I’d much rather be choked.

For nothing matters to me more than friends

And I fear many of those bonds will end

So I apologize for that one joke that went wrong

And hope friendships will be mended with this song

What I’ve done is inexcusable and inconsiderate

And I’ve hurt those I held dear

I’d like to keep the atmosphere temperate,

But again, it’s too late, I fear.

Many a time, I’ve brought autumn to this tree

When it wasn’t due until months away,

But this time, as you all could see,

Was no ordinary day.

A chilly, cold winter when summer was in session

Is all this tree received from me in attempts to make you
laugh.

And all I’ve caused was harm and depression.

And I am incomprehensibly sorry for that.

Sorry may not be enough in situations such the one at hand,

But remedying friendships is definitely worth a shot,

And what could have been tough rocks of trust have shattered
into grains of sand.

What could have I possibly thought?

Although a long way from now, it seems

I know this tree will eventually become green.

I despise myself for having caused any of you grief,

And I hope you give another chance to this pathetic leaf.
