Krystal is the topic. Do you like her as a character? Or not so much?

Personally, I find her annoying. Why?


1 Sick of attractive female characters in games (I want to play, not get infatuated over people I can't have!!)


2 Introduced in dumped Zelda reskin. (Star Fox adventures)


3 Was used horribly in a bad cannon fanfic (Star Fox Command)


4 Still dressed poorly!!


I would like to blame her as the downfall for the series. She wasn't that important in Assault, and just completely changed the atmosphere for me. It changed the atmosphere that I love in Star Fox 64. Now, It all feels different, and I just can't stand it when they do this with female characters in games! I'm not taking about Stuff like princess Zelda Helping you in the Gannon battle in TP, she wasn't actually dressed so. . . er. . . like Krystal. So It was fine. But Krystal is to much for me!


I want a different male character to take her place! How bout Dash bowman? He seems like a good piece of pizza for it.

Well?

I like her Adventures and Assault incarnations. Whoever wrote Command can go burn in a fire. They took her personality and did a complete 180 on it, something you should NEVER do unless you're also doing a face-heel-turn (or heel-face-turn, depending on the character's starting alignment), which depending on the ending you get may or may not actually happen.

Adventures was fine because she practically falls to the wayside from a storyline aspect. After the opening segment where she gets stuffed in the giant crystal, the only times you see her are when she explains how to use her staff, when you're returning the spirits, and in the cutscene before you fight Star Fox 2's Andross. I forget if she was also in that scene where the Krazoa Spirits explain she's in danger, but she really does take a backseat to the plot in the game. (Now if only they kept the plot from the Dinosaur Planet incarnation... that probably would've made Krystal a slightly better and more important character to the story.)

Assault, while she does take a bigger part of the action, is better about her gear, at least wearing something sensible for flying aircraft. I actually like what she was wearing in that game and wished they kept it. They also really don't show that much romance between the two in game (the only time you get much besides emotional cues in mission briefings is after defending Sauria), something that I think they could've developed a little more on, but considering the nature of the threat understandably didn't. And if you're complaining about her clothing, you should probably also complain about Rouge's clothing from the Sonic series.

And Sword, if you really hate her that much, she's one of the weaker characters in Assault's multiplayer mode, understandable because she's had the least training with the weapons and vehicles used by the crew, her only real benefits being she has more health than Falco and she comes with more barriers than the other characters. So do some port swapping, play as your favorite character with Krystal as an empty port (for some reason port swapping works here without breaking anything) and go to town on her there. Though it doesn't really seem like you hate Krystal because she's Krystal.

If you want to get into the downfall of the series, it's really how terrible Command was handled for me. Krystal made me love the series even more, and seeing her in a demo for Assault made me curious to where she came from, and after doing some research (and buying a Gamecube for Assault and Smash Bros. Melee) also made me want to buy Adventures in the first place. But Command ruined it for me. Everything was far too different, not just Krystal. The new characters that showed up (Dash and Amanda to name a few) were probably better written than almost everybody else, including the main cast. When minor characters are better written than the major ones, you have a problem. In fact, my only non-complaint is the gameplay, which worked well but really lacked replay value after getting all the endings and missions done.

I'm done ranting about my opinion now. Love it or hate it, you're not dissuading me from liking Krystal as a character. I'm just omitting Command like it never happened.

It is true that most of my reasons for not liking her come from how she was used.
And as for Rouge- yes I HATE ROUGE. She is designed nothing like the other characters. They took a short human body and thew on bat wings and and a strangely large head with cat ears on it. That's what Rouge is.


my complaints about Krystal clothes are in two areas.

2 not realistic. - somewhat corrected in Star Fox Assualt though.


Personally I Would go with Fay for a female character to be put in the series.

That would be pretty interesting.

Still dislike her for changing the team somewhat though, but I guess if she were in a dress I wouldn't mind it so much.

On the other hand, I generally dislike women in the military, I think that's the guy's jobs, and . . .
