As to saving your game, for Fire Red, you would either press ENTER on your keyboard, go down to "save" and press Z  (if your controls are like mine) or, for a quick save, press F2. F2 is to "save state" and F4 is to "load state". Just be careful when saving state and loading state. Many, many times, I've gotten save state and load state backwards, and I wouldn't want the same to happen to you

And SUX2BU answered your save problem perfectly, however also bear in mind that when you save, it is stored in the RGR plugin folder on your computer, so if you save on one computer, you cannot load your save on another computer. The only way to do that would be to copy the save manually from the folder onto an external device, or to upload the save file to a file sharing site. As long as you only play from one computer, none of that will matter though.
