TITLE : CONTRA FORCE SYSTEM : NES
CONTRA FARCE!!by Golgo 14
After developing 2 of the greatest run and gun games of all time Konami
had quite a reputation to live up to..I mean who doesn't love Contra??? Every run and gun is usually compared to Contra for its tight, responsive controls, excellent graphics and classic multiplayer gameplay and few have actually lived up to them. After hearing there was a 3rd NES Contra to be released before the NES died brought much joy to my ears and after playing it tears of disappointment.
GRAPHICS: 4 It is immediately apparent how amateurish the graphics are and how many technical mistakes rear their ugly head minutes after u press start. There is no life to these empty drab levels that are on display here. Muted, washed out colors, flickering sprites that s-l-o-w-down even with very few on display. Geez, even the explosions feel uninspired, which in a Conta game (or any good run and gun game)is unforgivable . How did Konami think this game was ready to be released ?
MUSIC/SOUND: 5 Much like everything inside of this cartridge the sound feels unfinished or even missing in parts. Music wise there are some familiar cues from older Contra's here and there but overall there is no life to any of these tracks, there is tempo that keeps the tracks from becoming
sleep inducing but overall the music is instantly forgettable.
ADDICTIVENESS: 3 While not unplayable , Contra Force makes the most critical errors where it is supposed to shine the most. The moment to moment gameplay in a run and gun and especially Contra itself should be quick, responsive and challenging. Contra Force moves so slow, the weapons don't make you feel powerful anymore, it's as if they have been
replaced by "knock offs". The levels themselves are poorly constructed with terrible platforming sections and enemies that exhibit no creativity at all which make this whole thing come crashing down to the final nail it it's coffin, the biggest Cardinal sin of them all...the multiplayer. or lack there of. What? no 2 player in a Contra game called CONTRA FORCE..the force of one is probably what Konami was thinking but as it turns out, it was for the greater good because the less people that play this thing the better world we will live in
STORY :1 NOPE NUTHIN HERE JUST KEEP MOVING ALONG
CONCLUTION: CONTRA FORCE seems to have been 'developed' with the only intention of making a quick buck by putting the Contra name on the box to rob unsuspecting gamers . That is the only conclusion I can come up with to explain this wretched train wreck. Even the mighty can fall sometimes SHAME ON YOU KONMAI!! 3/10
