If there is already a thread about this, forgive me for not knowing about it.

Anyway, I'm having a problem saving my game in Paper Mario for the N64. The in game save functions don't work, and making a save state and loading it causes the player to quit. Any ideas what might be going on?

Which emulator are you using?
Can you link the game?
I would like to try myself and see what happens

I tried it out with both copies on the site. I'm thinking one's USA and the other is European.

https://www.vizzed.com/playonlinegames/game.php?id=9146
and
https://www.vizzed.com/playonlinegames/game.php?id=64261

in both copies, I used the 1964 emulator, the one supported the plugin this site provides.

Okay I uploaded the European version thinking that it fixed the saving issues; I'll look into a fix in the configuration file for one of the emulators, hopefully tomorrow or in a couple days.

I'll just leave this thread open in a separate tab as a reminder.

Thank you. If I recall, I actually had trouble saving in Paper Mario when I ran the ROM file through the Project64 Emulator. Perhaps this might help?

That's about all I know about the issue. Thank you for looking in to it.

tRIUNE : Maybe it is as simple as removing that (!) at the end of the file? It seems both files have it.?

I really don't know what could be the problem here, I tested both games with both emulators and all saved and loaded for me.

vanelan : The [!] in the filename means the rom is a verified good dump, also it doesn't effect the configuration file. So that's not the problem. I'm stumped at this problem, maybe you could verify that the saving and loading works for if you have the free time? (btw, it takes about 13 minutes into the game to reach first save point)

Could it be an issue with system performance and/or specs, or perhaps the settings of the plugin that supports running the games with? I'm still experimenting here, but all I can do here is flip switches and see what works. I don't have the software to tweak the inner workings.

Okay, with all my tinkering that I know how to do, I fixed the issue with my save game... then it came back... then it got fixed again. This has me perplex, but overall, the issue has been resolved. So thank you all for the help you have given. :3
