As I do almost everyday, I was wondering around the Vizzed board looking for a thread worthy enough to post in. All of a sudden my Avast anti-virus sprung up with violent dongs. The Avast window was blood red so this could not be any good, nor was what it said.
Avast was telling me that I was on a malicious url but the only tab / window I had open was Vizzed. I left the page and avast alone for awhile expecting Avast to terminate the malware. It did nothing so I closed crome for safety reasons.
I tried to forget about and went to believe that Avast was playing up but when retirning to vizzed, it happened again. Not instantly but after a few pages the blood red, donging Avast had returned.
I do not know too much about malicious urls and infected websites but I have red that any website can be targeted. What I am saying is that vizzed could be under attack but after 2 malicious software scares it could be possible.

I did not know whether to summon Davideo7 or not. As I said it could just be Avast playing up.
If you are seeing similar things to me then please let me know. I would be nice to know if this has been happening on different anti-virus software. Anything will / should help.

From what I know, it's nothing of the sort, really.

Really, it's the ads we get. Even with the donations, David needs some extra cash to help run the site. That's usually what carries the viruses.

None of my site advisers, anti-malware, and antiviruses caught anything of the sort. It could be Avast messing up, since, you know, it's just a free antivirus.

I mean, Avast still isn't a terrible antivirus. It's not like it itself is a virus.

Point being, it's most likely the ads. We're not under an attack or something, just cheap ads.

I would agree with goodboy. My antivirus software hasn't acted up, either.

I think personlly the main reason that it's acting up is more likely the ads on site, because I have an ad-blocker way before I joined or even heard about Vizzed, and had no problems since then and to my mind, it's mostly have to do with the ads on here.

goodboy :
Chewedmint :
IgorBird122 :
I can see where you are both coming from since the majority of the advertisements on vizzed are dodgey win an iPhone advertisements but I would of thought you would of had to of actually click on the ad. Still my Avast is free so it is not as good as the premium. Also avast said it was url, I do not know if that changes anything though I had already mentioned it. I guess I will wait for anymore responses, this is quite recent and I have neber had any problems with vizzed ever. I will try ad blocker and see if it happens again.

MechaMento :

No, it actually goes off without clicking on it. An antivirus works basically as such: If something has the potential of being suspicious, block it.

What do you mean by, "said it was the url"? Do you mean the URL of the site, or an ad?

Try AdBlock first, and then post here with the results. I don't exactly have an explanation other than the ads...

MechaMento : I think it's mostly the ads because I heard that 99% of the virus caused is from advertisements (I mentioned in the "False Advertisement" thread I posted).

Alright this is what I have observed. My mom has Avast on her computer. Whenever I go on Vizzed on her computer, not only do I get the red "Threat has been detected" popup, but I also get a ton of random popup ads. When I go on Vizzed on my computer, which doesn't have any antivirus, I do not have those random popups.

Do you think Avast itself could be causing the problem?

tgags123 :

Avast could be a contributor, sure. It goes off for no reason. Remember, like I said before: It IS a free antivirus. You shouldn't really expect the best results with it.

About the popups, though, that might be the computer itself. My dad gets a crapload of popups, yet he has the same things on his laptop that I do.

But not to get off topic.

Avast MIGHT be going off for no reason, and that may be the case. But I had Avast and it didn't go off... Ever.

tgags123 : I have had something like that before. If all of the adds randomly come up on most / any sites then you could of downloaded an advert producer app without knowing. I did this once downloading something from CNET. I did not red all of the stuff so I ended up downloading the ad program. Avast will not recognize it as being a virus because it simply is not one. You can have it removed but it is bit difficult. The companies like to hide their programs so they can earn more for longer since it is hard to find. As for avast it wont be anything to do with that, unless you did not download avast from the avast website.

I've had that issue once or twice with Vizzed, and I'm positive it was an ad. I use Kaspersky, fyi. I accessed the exact same page later, and didn't get any alerts. Those ads find their way into oblivion, so don't worry about it.

Another point that I'd like to make, despite it being partially off-topic, is that using any ad-blockers actually hurts the site, as Vizzed won't make as much money off of the ads since you're not allowing ads to show. They pay when seen, not when a page is loaded.

mrfe : Thank you for letting me know on your experiences, that is what I really wanted from this thread. I am glad you know what it is about and I guess my worries are over. I guess I wont try an add blocker, I want Davideo7 to get the money he needs since I and others certainly do not want him to go bankrupt because cuts on vizzed would be horrible!

Local Mods : My question has been answered. It would help me if you closed this, I have no use for it anymore!

Adblocker detected!

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
