I don't know about you guys but i would have to say the bowser battles i think are the hardest levels i hate fighting bowser because its hard to aim him when your spinning and the fact that you have to time it is what makes it so hard but then your over throwing him and then it make you have to repeat it and then you taking for ever just to hit a bomb with his body i think out off it all the boss battles are the hardest

The ghost house levels are absolute death for me. They destroy the interior of my beig until I am no longer a person. Also, the puzzles during the bowser castle levels where the screen repeats until you go the correct way are more annoying than that one guy asking for gum.

Don't you just hate those special levels in Super Mario World. After completing the difficulties of star road you then have to go through the special stages. The place where the most elite Super Mario World Gamers will endure the painful suffering of the games most difficult inventions. 
I think the most difficult in the Special World is most probably the level named Awesome. The course is a slippery ice world of terro. You must have perfect timing or you will slide into mario's death. 
Good Lucking beating that one!

This is going to sound real sad and epic at the same time I have never beaten and of the super Mario game from the original to world but one. And that one game happens to be the lost levels. In the original I can,t get out of the first world in 3 I can't get past world 5 and world I can do the first six or seven levels then you can kiss me tush good night.

I would have to say in Super Mario the part where you get to the green world I couldn't figure out the pattern. One day I finally figured it out but when I replayed it I forgot how I did it which left me sad and not able to get past it.. oh well I still find it a fun game to play.

When I beat the game recently, my hardest level was 9-7. I went from 99 lives to 5 twice trying to beat it. I didn't get all three star coins either. I would suggest giving up on the third one unless you're Mario himself.

A few levels come to mind that gave me trouble in the Super Mario world. 

The first level that always got me was Super Mario Brothers (the first one) Level 8 the last level. I would be going good only to fall in the wide pit. On times when I made it past the pit. I got hit by a Hammer Brothers 

The Second, level that always got me was in Super Mario Brothers 3 Level 8. That level was hard, you had to get past the tanks and then that level's stages threw everything at you. 

The third, level that gave me trouble was Level 7 in Super Mario Brothers 3. That level had a lot of pipe  mazes and it is real easy to get lost and have the time run out. 

The 6th level in Super Mario Brothers 3 was hard simply because of the ice real easy to fall and slide.
