Hello readers of the many! I am MechaMento, for those of you who do not know me that well, and I am glad to be reviewing one of the best, if not the best First Person Shooters of this generation console. From this point on the review will get into action, so stop playing Pokemon, turn off your music and engage into my review because we are going on a journey that stretches into the world of Halo 3.

Why I Played This

When I first got the Xbox 360 I was expecting to be allowed to all of a sudden be able to play pegi 16+ rated game (M+ I think). Well my dad was not happy about that so he refused to let me play any. It took me about a year to change his opinion about 16+ rated games and that change of opinion came with a lot of effort. Most days of the week I would keep begging my dad to just buy the game, I just wanted to see what it was like so I was not wasting my time badgering him to play it if it was not any good. He did eventually buy the game but I was not allowed to play it straight away, he played through the first two levels just to see how gory the game actually is, and to my luck he approved of it, because let's be honest here, Halo 3 is certainly not a gory game. After I played it and got passed a few chapters he had a re-think since my playing style was twice as violent. Eventually he just gave in to letting me play any 16+ game when I wanted to but that was about half a year after he had his re-think. That brings us up to speed for where I am now, reviewing the game.

Graphics

More first person shooters are rushed like the whole call of duty series and numerous others but Bungie were keen to get the most out of their game. To achieve that, Bungie had to create a whole new graphics engine since their previous game Halo 2 was on the original Xbox. Going through to make a new style of graphics for the next Halo in the series was a big risk, and I guess that risk was taken to the challenge and beaten. Halo 3 provides a cinematic graphic effect which at the time, made other games on the Xbox 360 look bad. The only other contenders I would consider having as good graphics as Halo 3 at the time (I say at the time because the Xbox 360 evolved in its own way) would be Crysis and Fable III. Those games dominated the rest of the console at the time and used the power of a Xbox 360 very efficiently. However a year or so after Halo 3, the video game graphics for any game improved dramatically. Some caught up with games like Halo 3, like Call of Duty, and the other over took it like Far Cry 3 and the Elder Scrolls 5. That is why I only gave the graphics a 9 out of 10, rather than helping Bungie boast about graphics (because in my opinion the graphics in Halo 4 was better, and that was developed by 323).

Sound

Again, most first person shooters are rushed so having a decent sound quality was not the major priority. However Bungie turned against the first person shooter stereotypes and perfected the sounds of Halo 3 to the high end of video gaming. For instance, when you are at the loading screen for the campaign you are greeted with a brand new cover of the well loved Halo theme that dates backs to the original. The sound quality is great and that I feel is necessary in any game, whether is be a first person shooter or an role playing game. However there is not much music in game apart from the odd dramatic song and another couple of covers of the Halo theme which does not stop getting epic. But as I just said there is not much music in the campaign, do not worry though my friend since again bungie have gone and made themselves look good by getting the guns sounds to a hyper-realistic quality. The dialog is also well said, there is no slip ups, voice glitching and the acting is actually really good. Especially that this is a video game we are talking about, not a drama.

Story

Now a game at Bungies standard has to have a good story and Halo 3 provides just that. They managed to keep the series going well even when the ending of Halo 2 was terrible and bungie were actually frowned upon even though Halo 2 was a fantastic game. The tradition of an engaging story continued as Halo 3 contributes to it with an amazing story you will be bound to follow through out the whole game. You will emotional with the events with Cortana and feel epic when adventuring with your fellow Elite kicking mutant zombie ass! You just wish the game would just carry on and on and on but of course every game must end, even if you do not want it too! So I went and rated Halo 3's story all the way at ten, I have never been actually this engaged into a story ever in my life. Not even in books (though then again I hate reading!!).

Addictiveness, Difficulty and Depth

Halo 3 and many other first person shooters are really successful and addictive. If you are shooting someone over Xbox Live the player is always happy, though that tends to only be when they win. Even if they do lose and have a little or in some cases big rage about it they keep coming back for more. There is something about first person shooters that never gets old and I guess we have to thank Doom and Wolfenstein for this wonderful creation of 3D first person shooters. There is some skill involved as well and Halo 3 provides a difficulty scale from easy to legendary and I tell you now easy is way too east and legendary is just insane!! It is a shame we have lost the fixed difficulty in video games it means giving it a rating for difficulty is tough. I just gave it the rating I would give it for my experience from finishing the game. Finishing the game took me a while because there is so much to do in the game, including taking breaks from the campaign to play a bit of Halo 3 over Xbox Live. That is always fun, and it does not get boring! There is a lot of depth and that is why the depth rating deserves a 9. It is great for a first person shoot but when you look at open world sand box games there is a lot more to do in them.

Thank you for taking the time to read my review. This has been MechaMento reviewing Halo 3 for the Xbox 360. Be sure to give me any feed back you think I need, I will not be offended by criticism so if you have anything wrong about my review please just say so because I am always want to improve my reviewing talent.
