So I finally watched DBZ: Evolution... First of all, probably the worse movie adaptation I've ever seen, secondly, the director screwed up big-time for us fans who were expecting something that would be similar to the original storyline. A movie such as DBZ holds much potential if done right, I hope next time they do it right. What about you? What is the worst movie adaptation you've ever seen? Share your thoughts!

LucasMull : There is a Forum specifically for movies. I am going to have the mods move it there.

Local Mods : Can you move this to the Movies Forum please?

To answer your question, I have to say that The Last Airbender was the worst. I was a huge fan of the show, but the movie not only killed it, but took out the humor as well. Just a terrible movie based off of a great show.

The Resident Evil series, for me, was horrible. Not sure if it is the worst, but it is what comes to mind at the moment. The first one wasn't horrible. I'll give it that. Wasn't too thrilled about the new protagonist. But with every new one that comes out, it is like they are further spitting on the original story. It has just gotten outright ridiculous with it. They try to have some of the main characters from the game series, but they make them so insignificant. The focus purely around this Alice character who was extremely genetically altered and psychically powerful. What the hell? And the whole thing was an accident in the movie. In the games, you find out that every single event was either directly or indirectly manipulated by Wesker for his own personal gain in finding out who and what he was. But I digress.

I do agree that DBZ: Evolution was horrible and not even close to the cartoon storyline. But in all honesty, I think a show like that only really works as an animated series. When I was younger, I thought it could work as a live action film. But it just wouldn't. The thing about animated series is that you can take the action and all to the max for practically nothing compared to using real people and special effects. Special effects can only go so far. The type of stuff in DBZ can't really be recreated without it looking like computer animation. In general, making television shows into movies does not really work. So much important stuff happens in television shows, and you only have 1.5-3 hours for a movie. There is only so much you can put into it. The only exceptions would be television show movies that don't try to recreate the story of the show, but basically make a high budget longer episode. But DBZ already does that (granted most of the movies don't fit the timeline of the show). But a show like that was pretty much doomed as a live action film from the start. Too much involved and you are more limited by capabilities of special effects.

I heard a lot of people say that the people who made the Percy Jackson movies did not do a good job with converting the book into a movie. I watched both of the movies, and I have to agree. I loved the movies but there was either something important left out, something irrelevant added, or something taken from one book and put into another.

My answer would have to be the Super Mario Brothers movie. There was...nothing even similar to the games at all whatsoever. I mean, how can you screw up Mario BROTHERS?! In the movie they are father and son. And trust me, it only goes downhill from there...

I wonder what the character limit on this thing is.
