This is the strategy guide for the Sega Master System game, Alex Kidd in Miracle World. Alex Kidd was, of course, Sega's mascot character pre-Sonic the Hedgehog. After the blue hedgehogs arrival onto the scene, Alex's popularity somewhat decreased, but games like these are still played today. This is a very hard game, which is why a strategy guide would be appropriate.

1. Story

Alex lives on the Planet Aries, simply known as the Miracle World, and has just come from the mountain, where a dying citizen has told him the city of Radactain is in great danger from the main antagonist of the game, Janken the Great. Janken has already succeeded in turning people into stone to weaken their resistance, so Alex must hurry over to put things right. The man gives him a medallion, making up the sunlight stone, and a map, easily viewed by pressing the pause button, which will bring up the map screen.

2. Levels

During the game, Alex will travel through several levels, many of which scroll either down or right, with no turning back.

(a) Level 1 - Here Alex must move to the bottom, avoiding the flying eagles on his way. When he reaches the bottom, he will fall into water, and will then have to move to the right, avoiding the fish and sharks along the way. Take out the frog in the middle of the level by punching him. Only the punch should be used on the frog as touching him or hitting the bubbles that he will blow per few seconds will cost a life. To end the level, hit the top block, that contains what appears to be a white sandwich, and collect it. From now on, the white sandwich will end the level Alex is in when collected.
(b) Level 2 - Alex will be in terrain not to different from the first level, and will start at a shop. Collecting money bags during the game will mean Alex can purchase vehicles, power-ups or even extra lives. Ensure the motorbike is purchased, and once on, avoid the red spheres, jump over the pits and run over the enemies to reach the end. Here you will encounter stone-head, the first boss. In these boss levels, you will play a game of rock, scissors and stone. Two winning matches out of three will win you the contest. To defeat stone-head, use rock, then scissors. The white sandwich will show up once defeated.
(c) Level 3 - Alex will be underwater. Amazingly this level can be completed in two ways. If you choose not to attack the first octopus but avoid it, continue to the very right, avoiding the sharks. If you choose to attack it, be sure to have invincibility purchased from the previous level, then activate it by selecting it from the map screen. Attacking the octopus on the head will kill it in its entirety, then float on top of its pot, which will unlock a hidden route. Here, Alex must avoid the two swimming sharks at the end to reach the white sandwich.
(ca) Hidden level - From here, Alex will have to break through lots of circular rocks, and take out the scorpions, jumping frogs and eagles as he makes his way to the right. Also jump over the pits as you go along. The white sandwich should be easy to get.
(d) Level 4 - Similar to the hidden level previously in terms of terrain, enemies and hazards, Alex must use the same techniques and move to the right. In addition, pits will now have floating stood-up plantations that Alex must avoid touching. At the end of the level, a man with a beard appears along with what appears to be a helicopter item. Here, you are given the main mission of the game, to save the land of Radactain from Janken. Collect the helicopter item before the white sandwich.
(e) Level 5 - Alex is now in a helicopter, and must move to the left without touching the rocks, eagles or flying piranhas. The helicopter does, however, have ammunition that Alex can fire at enemies. One hit of this will take out the enemies. If you do get hit, don't worry, you just fall into the water and will have to swim to the right, being mindful of the same underwater enemies.
(f) Level 6 - Like the second level, there is a shop. Go into the shop and purchase the helicopter item. Operate it as you have just did in level 5, moving to the left. Don't get hit by anything or you will have to walk your way to the right. Avoid the rotating fireballs as they, sadly, cannot be killed. At the end of the level, will be an angry bull. Hitting the bull, either by punch or power-up, will keep the bull back, but will move it faster. Keep attacking until it eventually dies. A lion-like man will appear, telling you that Alex's brother is imprisoned in the Radaxian Castle.
(g) - Level 7 - Alex is now in a cave, and so will encounter new enemies such as the bat or moving creature. Midway through the level, Alex can collect a star in a round box. Collecting this is very useful, as it can give you a added edge in the rock, paper and scissors battles. Proceed to the right to meet scissors head. For him, use scissors then paper to defeat him.
(h) Level 8 - Alex is now in a forest, and at the shop. Purchase the bike in the shop. This level can be very hard, as you must not fall into the huge rows of spikes. Alex should ride on the small blocks, but will only get a spilt second to jump from one to the other. Hitting the spikes will not only lose the bike but you also lose a life. Should you somehow make it to the end without being hit, punch the giant blue monkey repeatedly to defeat him. If you do not make the end with the bike, attack the blue monkey when his sword his pointing upwards and not drawn. The additional difficulty here is that a monkey on a tree will be there, throwing bullets at you as you fight the blue monkey. Avoid them.
(i) Level 9 - Alex is in a boat, which can jump and has ammunition like the helicopter. Drive along the water without being hit by spheres or birds/piranhas. If hit, you will fall into the water and have to swim it.
(j) Level 10 - Alex will start off near a shop. Purchase the helicopter to fly it. Along the way, Alex will have to avoid the stormy clouds that will move and strike lightning every few seconds. Also avoid the rotating fireballs whilst moving. At the end, you face Paper Head. For him, choose rock, then scissors.
(k) Level 11 - Alex will enter a castle. He will have to avoid the falling spikes from the ceiling, as well as stationery ones spread throughout the rest of the level. For the first time, Alex will be able to navigate backwards after appearing in that area previously. There are a lot of rooms here, but be sure to stay near the top and not navigate to the very bottom. On your way to saving Alex's brother, you should not encounter another set of falling spikes, but have to avoid lots of moving or static fireballs. Alex's brother is located roughly to the north-east of the castle. Once in the room, there will be three pink blocks with different symbols located directly above where Alex's brother is. Punch all in any order to release him. After his release, you must find a flag-like object. It will be located somewhere on the route you took to reach Alex's brother. Collecting this is vital, more on that later on. After collecting it, make your way to the bottom and pass a second, much thicker set of spikes and moving fireballs to get to the dead-end room. Here, Alex will fight stone-head again. This time use paper both times. This time, after losing the contest, the boss will take his head off and fly it around the room. This won't be hard as it moves slowly. Punch it three times to defeat him.
(l) Level 12 - Reminiscent of many levels in terms of enemies, go to the shop midway through the level. It won't sell many worthy items but be sure to buy them all as you may need them later on. At the end here, you face scissors-head for the second time. This time you use rock on both times. Once beaten, scissors head will take his head off and will move it much faster. As-well as this, he will fire bullets from his stomach, which Alex must avoid. Again 3 strikes will defeat him.
(m) Level 13 - Alex is on the helicopter again, and must make his way to the left without losing the helicopter. There will be eagles, spheres and pits containing rising plantations. Avoid all, or attack the eagles, to reach the white sandwich at the end.
(n) Level 14 - Alex enters another castle. This time he will meet the king. He can be in two moods. If you have the flag-like object from level 11, he will give you the stone-slab containing several symbols once viewed from the map screen. If you fail to collect the object, he will ask you to leave.
(o) Level 15 - Much like the others, terrain and enemy-wise. Go to the shop and purchase the bike. Avoid the traps and enemies and don't lose the bike until the end. Here you face paper-head for the second time. For him, you use rock then scissors. When paper-head takes off his head, it will float in a pattern, but avoid it when it charges at you from the bottom. Again attack 3 times.
(p) Level 16 - Alex will enter a third castle, and this level works the same way as level 11. There are more traps, spikes, pits and enemies than any other level in this game, so all power-ups will have to be used at some point. When underwater, to get past the spikes, don't press up/down or the A/B buttons, but just press left-right on the pad. Alex will gingerly float right past them and won't die. Navigate through several rooms until you reach Janken the Great. This will be the final boss battle. For him, choose paper both times. When defeated, Janken will fire bullets in a zig-zag pattern at Alex. Get close to Janken and punch him three times near the head part of his body to defeat him. He will then turn into stone. Exit by using the ladder and you will save Alex's sister and gain the moonlight stone.
(q) Level 17 - Another underwater level. This time, travel your way down, avoid the fish and kill the frog that floats in the way of the opening at the bottom. Once defeated, go into the opening, which will take Alex to an underground room. Go to the door using the sunlight and moonlight stones to open it and enter the crown room. The sequence of symbols will be on the stone-slab, but to unlock the crown, walk over the pink blocks in the following order: sun, waves, moon, star, sun, moon, waves, star, fish and star. That will release the crown. Jump over the spikes above to reach the crown.

3. Power-Ups

Over the course of the game, Alex will collect power-ups, from within the level or in a shop, that can be used to give Alex additional powers to take out the enemies. Power-Ups include:
(a) Ring - Collect this to fire fiery-like arrows at enemies to defeat them, or for bosses, hold them back. These can also take out a whole row of blocks.
(b) Bike - Collect this and Alex can travel by bike. He can attack enemies just by running over them and he can jump when on a bike.
(c) Helicopter - Collect this and Alex can fly to unreachable heights. He can also fire bullets to attack enemies.
(d) Cain - Collect this and Alex can hover towards high heights for a short time.
(e) A box - Collect this and miniature Alex's will be released when used to attack enemies.
(f) B box - Collect this and Alex can be shielded for a short time, killing enemies just by walking at them.
(g) Talcum Powder - Get this ? item and Alex will be invincible for a short time.

4. Enemies

There are enemies that can be attacked just by one hit. Several of them will re-occur throughout the levels of the game.
(a) Flying eagle - The most common character, flying slowly from one way to the next, attack by using punch near them.
(b) Ghost monster - Cannot be killed, but can appear by walking over pink monster symbols or punching ? blocks. Once summoned, it will follow Alex. Try to get the monster off-screen before it kills you.
(c) Fish - Will swim slowly from one way to the next, they should be pretty easy to defeat
(d) Underwater Frogs - Punch when near them. It will float from up to down, releasing bubbles when at the bottom.
(e) Shark - Will float fast in a zig-zag direction. Be sure to watch its movement before attacking.
(f) Scorpion - Will slowly move towards Alex, but shouldn't be too difficult an opponent to attack.
(g) Jumping Frogs - Again, slow movers, jumping up then down. Should be easy to handle.
(h) Flying piranhas - Will fly out of the water. A helicopter/boat ammo attack will kill it.
(i) Fireballs- Cannot be killed, but can float in any direction. Examine how each one is moving first.
(j) Bats - Will slowly fly from one way to the next. Again, should not be a difficulty
(k) Moving Squirrel-like animals - Will move slowly towards Alex, but shouldn't be too hard to take out
(l) Overhead monkeys - will appear above Alex and fire bullets at him. Can be killed but best to avoid them.

5. Blocks

There will be gold/pink blocks with different symbols on them.

Gold
(5a) Star - Get this and earn a cash reward
(5b) ? - Get this and earn a ring, ghost monster or 1-up in that sequence, according to the blocks you get.
(5c) Ring - Get this and shake for a few seconds.

Pink
(5a) Monster - Go over this and ghost monsters will appear
(5b) Star - Go over this and it will unlock/vanish something nearby
(5c) Other symbols - Will appear in Levels 11 and 17

6. Rock, paper and scissors

This will be the game you play with a boss. It is simply the best out of three, so you must win two matches to advance. Lose two matches and you lose a life. There is rock, paper or scissors to choose from. Collect the circular star in Level 7 and you can see the boss's selections as well as yours. Wins are indicated as noughts at the top-left of your screen, loses are crosses.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
