I wanted to play this game because the title made the game sound cool. Which to be honest a lot of the concepts within the game are interesting, but I found myself irritated with the game before I was able to get into the Pokémon center in the first city. Understandably one of the concepts in this game is supposed to be "life is hard, we're going to make your life miserable by beating up on your Pokémon by making some of the concepts more realistic."

One example of how they made it more realistic has to do with the terrain. We all know that it takes time to travel from one city to another in a Pokémon game, so it makes sense doesn't it that you should cover a major amount of terrain just to get to the first city and even get lost. That I didn't mind and in fact liked the concept of.  I also get that you and your rival are in fact rough necks so to speak and you don't exactly play nice with each other. I mean, you steal a Pokémon at the beginning of the game from the lab and your friend... I guess you can call your rival a friend, shows you to the Pokémon Center only to beat up on you. I liked that.

What I did not like was the fact you can't get your mother to heal you up in the games. Why? Perhaps the logic behind this is she doesn't want anything to do with you after you steal a Pokémon from the lab. Mother's though are supposed to care for their children no matter what they do. If the reasoning behind it was that you were on the run, why couldn't she have said something about healing you up and then getting out of the place so she doesn't risk trouble? Which brings me to another place I felt that potential was wasted. If you're going to change lines don't just do silly jokes that amount to minor changes, particularly when you in the long run have quite a bit of potential in what you can do storyline wise.

There was way too much focus I think on making the game harder without really thinking about how enjoyable the game would be. Sure, make the game hard. Don't make it so people are wanting to drop the game as soon as they pick it up. I guess I should be glad they didn't put in level 60 Charizard into the game as well.
