Pretty much anything in Final Fantasy VII, which I thought was an extraordinary soundtrack.  Led of course by the classic Final Fantasy theme.

PixelBrick : I also have a few themes that I like. The Crateria Main Theme from Super Metroid really motivates me into completing the mission. The Atlantis theme in Jolly Rogers Lagoon in Banjo Tooie has a soothing melody and really does capture the feel of the underwater world. I also like the Super Mario theme. That's a classic.

My favorite video game theme is Mario's Pad from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. It is very catchy and sounds very impressive especially for an old song.

If it's individual games with an overall awesome soundtrack, I HAVE to nominate Jet Set Radio Future. They had a lot of amazing songs playing in the background, fitting for a pirate radio station game.

If you mean single tracks from games, then I'd have to agree with the Jolly Roger Bay/Dire Dire Docks theme. Maybe toss in the WitchyWorld background music too.

My favorite that's a tough one... but I have two of them.

As someone noted above anything from Final Fantasy 7 definitely makes the list, it was absolutely amazing.  Final Fantasy X is right there as well.

However here is one a bit more obscure that I really love to this day.
The PSOne version of Lunar: The Silver Star Story Scroll.  Was absolutely amazing to me. The main song from the sound track that came with the box set of disks.  Simply amazing.

On a side note, one that I was impressed with at the time was Final Fantasy Legend II.  However this one must be explained.  When I was young and had an original game boy, my parents absolutely hated it when I had the sound on so I had a set of Ear Buds for it.  Well that game would play its music in stereo with the ear buds and make a harmony from one ear to the other, it was the only game I had that did it and I was a duly impressed.

Those are what come to mind right now, likely there are more, but those are the big ones that jump out at me.  Take care everyone for now and happy gaming!

I too like the Bowser theme from Mario 64 (though its called Koopa Road). I also like Star Wolf's theme (Star Fox Assault), Airship Fortress theme (Super Mario Bros. 3), Tomahawkman's theme (Megaman 6), Protoman's theme (Megaman 5), His World (Sonic 2006), and Seven Rings In Hand (Sonic And The Secret Rings)

I like the Mega Man 2 soundtrack a lot. I'm 13, but if I was the same age in 20 years ago, I would have probably grown up around those games. I also like the soundtracks of the Fire Emblem series. It's always had nice tunes, even in its 8-bit origins, but Radiant Dawn and Awakening finally gave Intelligent Systems the capability to make full soundtracks. Also, the final boss theme from Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story is awesome. One of the best boss fights in video games accompanied by an awesome soundtrack makes for a great gaming memory!

My favorite theme is probably the intro to Avalon Code. It makes the game feel more enthralling just by showing parts of the game in detail (keeping me addicted even when I wanted to shoot Neaki for making me traverse the ice cavern TWICE!)

There are a ton of great video game soundtracks that are amazing so I am going to narrow it down to my favourite 3.

Loops of Fury - WipEout
The developers of wipEout traded 3 or 4 of the Chemical Brothers songs for a free Arcade cabinet of the MAME games. Some of the songs were also in the PSX games. Loops of Fury is a great song and even hit 13 in the UK charts in 1996.

E1M1 Theme - Doom
We all should know how much the game kicks ass and we all should know that the music did too. The theme for E1M1 was what we all remember because it kicked so much ass!

Title / Making Character Theme - Final Fantasy 1
There is just something charming about the oriental sounds of this. It sounded great on the NES and even better on the GBA with the remake. In my opinion it is one of the best title themes in gaming.

It is probably the Final Destination theme from Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Nintendo Wii. The epicness for a final battle there is just right. It was very well done, in my opinion.

I consider Rising Sun to be the main theme of Okami, since it appears everywhere, so I'm putting that at the top. It's just so beautiful and inspiring. After that is Wind Waker's main theme, which wonderfully heartwarming and upbeat, then Sonic Heroes whih is just darn catchy, Spirit Tracks, which is adventurous and SO memorable, and finally Banjo-Kazooie's main theme, which is zany and also catchy and memorable.

I have more than one favorite. Off the top of my head, I can think of the staff credits to all the Metroid Prime games which are also their main menu themes but extended although my memory is a bit fuzzy on Prime 3's menu theme. I think it's the staff credits but I do not remember. I have not actually played that one in a while. I also like the Gen 1 & Gen 5 Gym Leader themes, the Gen 3 E4 theme, & the Gen 4 Champion theme, all from Pokemon. Then there is the Megaman Battle Network series. I love the main theme from the first 3 games but they changed it after that & I did not care for that theme.
