Introduction: time to review a another game, this 1 is Mortal Kombat 4 on the Nintendo 64 system.Ever since the Mortal kombat series started out with mortal kombat 1 and we still keep on getting our gore and our precious blood baths, which mk in general has been very famous and well known for it's blood gore and deadly finishing moves...,so how does Mortal Kombat 4 turn out? Let's find out in this review.
Gameplay: The gameplay of Mk is basically a new fighting game in the source well taking off from the mk3 all the way up to the excellent mkt. Mk3 was merely a good sucess, not many had play it do to It's new combo system, which in general had made mk3 a good moderate sucess, the combo system would however just mostly affect the beginners and some who in general just got tired of being crushed by others who knew how to work the combos with certain characters,I know what you're thinking but it's not juggle combos.. ,It's actually a button order sequence type of combos that would unleash massive amounts of damage on your foes...Anyways as For Mortal Kombat 4's gameplay. The gameplay is also sort of like Mk3,but this time the random combo's are done with Massive amount of special moves and some are not so umm..,overpowered,as I would say. Certain characters have some of there special moves...you know there configuration of the special moves changed as for raidens thunder bolt where it used to be like a simple config to do it,but now it's a bit more hard to figure out. Anyways I say the gameplay rather makes up this game's thrill and boy it is action packed with Lot's of blood coming your way.
Graphics: From what I know this game was the first 3d fighting game in the Mortal Kombat franchise..,so like many other common 1st 3d fighting games during this erra of fighting games..,The sprites would generally have there normal,as I would say 3d polygon fourm and the way this game turned out..., even if it's pretty old the 3d effect of the fighters and stages rather makes Mortal Kombat 4 look more well aged then some of the previous 2d Mortal kombat games. This game offers newer stuff as well for the characters such as separate costumes for each fighter, which is rather a nice touch to add to the 4th Mortal Kombat game. The Sprites and Mortal kombat gang are here as well as some newer characters, who have not showned up in the previous games and they look and fight very nicely. The stages: The stages rather have that old mortal kombat style You know with spikes blood skulls and other stuff everywhere etc. The stages Rather look nicely done in this game it has that old creepy natural style to it,but I'm sure it's not all that creepy once you get used to the natural Mk features. In general I like scorpions stage and all of the others, they have a nice touch.Endings:* I'm not gonna lie, I'm just gonna spit it out*The endings look just awful on the Nintendo 64 version of Mk4 as characters animation is pretty choppy The characters don't look well appeared,as they are quite blurry and zoomed out and just in general the endings look bad on this version when compared to the ps1 version of the game. Animation: while in general I did say it did look bad for the endings, but in the natural game modes the animation is rather nice,The fighting stances rather look pretty good and zoom in with the characters quite nicely, especially the camera like angel that this game sometimes gives you,so in all fairness of the graphics of this game, I'll give it a 8 out of 10 excellent.
Sound: Really when comparing The Nintendo 64 version of mk4 to the other mk4 ports.. There's not much wrong going on with the sound effects,as they are very nice quality sounding and very accurate to the arcade counterparts, Each of the characters Voice samples again rather work well choosened with their graphical designs "aka" the look and feel of the characters. The only flaw I found with the sound effects were the ending voice's sound compressed"aka"somewhat blurry, they are just not as clear as they are in the ps1 version of mk4(Soundtrack: The soundtrack was ok..,But really I found nothing horrible dark twisty about the soundtrack, which I rather find sad, because I usually expect that in a Mk game oh well. The soundtrack is pretty much meh.."aka" I just rather forgot about the soundtrack while playing the game(Sorry It just didn't sound so catchy to me) Sound rating I'll give it a 6 out of 10 not bad
Addictiveness: I find Mk4 fun for it's combos challenge crazy wacky grunts XD and the massive load of bloody fun you can have while playing this game, The game has multiple combo's with neat special moves to knock out your foes it just works well and it's pretty fun to pull off. disregard my reason for finding this game addicting, because I didn't really find mk4 all that fun to play.Addictiveness rating I'll give it a 6 out of 10.
Story: From what I've understand This game immeadlity rather took off After Mortal kombat trilogy, because If you played as Noob saibot the turn of events after his ending actually take up right here.So After Mk trilogy Shao khan was defeated by Noob saibot Quan chi had lead a amulet to Shinnok, leading him to his escape. So now you must pick a character go through a classic bunch of towers and defeat the lord Shinnok"aka" a corrupted elder god who got sented into either the neatherrealm or chaosrealm by Raiden,So he's gonna seek out his revenge unless you defeat him. Story rating I'll give it a 7 out of 10
Depth: The game doesn't take all that long to beat There's training mode Arcade mode as well as 2 player mode. But for the main game it doesn't take all that long to beat, Depending on which tower/difficulty you have it on,but the game in general doesn't really take all that long,Like other fighters during the time This game has some easy and hard characters to work with "aka" there combos and special moves. Like liu kang is a pretty easy character, Shinnok rather takes some time to work with. Anyways depth rating I'll give it a 6 out of 10
Difficulty: I'll amdit This game is pretty easy I understand some characters can be hard like goro and others, but again I'm not gonna lie I'm just gonna spit it out. Shinnok was a pretty easy boss. I don't really get this. I mean last time in mk1 goro was harder then shang tsung, and this game has a pattern like mk1 because goro is harder for me to fight then Shinnok is. The controls aren't bad,but a little hard to work with mainly do to the n64 control setup. Difficulty I'll give it a 5 out of 10
Overall Mk4 Is a good n64 game and a great fighter totally worth checking out. Nice visuals good gameplay nice story,Bad looking endings, good sound,a alright soundtrack, overall rating I'll give this game a 9.1 for the Nintendo 64 version of Mk4
