I have seen an advert on tv recently advertising gastric bands, I think this is very irresponsible because it is preying on insecurities and showing it as the best option, it does not mention any possible complications, statistics or risks. I think the advert should not have mentioned any specific surgery or associate it with joy, it should have just stated the facts and that is it. The people who would consider having the surgery would always know off it and they would know the benefits, they will find out the downsides during consultation.
So what do you think about htis

I don't think it's too bad if they want to try and advertise it. I just think of it as if it were any other type of advertisement. But, if they choose to do so, they should list all of the health risks it has as if it were a commercial for medicine. If they do everything right, they should be able to advertise on TV with no problem.

I agree with Mega yet again on this issue.  Companies have the right to advertise their products and services.  While I'm not a fan of weight loss surgeries at all, there's nothing illegal about them.  I just think that there should be certain requirements put in place to advertise something of that nature.  Tobacco products, after all, have the General Surgeon's warning, due to the health risks.  Most medicine commercials (if not all) are required to state possible side affects.  Weight loss surgery commercials should be required to state the risks and facts of the decision as well.

I don't mind it since I don't even take the time to read advertisements or watch them I try my best to avoid them.
People only advertise ads like that to earn profit so I'm totally okay with weight loss ads.

Elective surgery is a business like any other business.  The folks that make the technology can pay doctors to push it.  Surgery for weight loss can be avoided with healthy living, exercise, healthy food, and lifestyle changes.

But people want fast, easy, and convenient and money is easier to spend than effort losing weight naturally.  It's business and I'm a fan of capitalism.  If someone wants to take that route, what right do I have to tell them anything different.

Of course it should be advertised.

Sure, they are allowed to advertise what ever they want. They just want money.
