Did anyone hear about the kid who almost got suspended for bringing a toy Lego gun on the bus. It was smaller than a quarter! What has the USA came to?

No but i looked it up. Incidentaly if you talk about an article in this forum you should post the link.

http://worldschildren.wordpress.com/2013/05/29/boy-brings-lego-gun-unto-schoolbus-kindergartner-forced-to-apologise-for-brandishing-tiny-lego-gun

If its true its ridiculous, it does seem like the kind of thing that conservatives would claim though, to try to claim the state was attempting to turn children against guns.
Maybe schools in the usa are this dumb, i dont know, iv never been in one.

thenumberone : Schools here (well, many of them) are against guns. There are so many examples I could give... I mean, Kids have been punished for chewing their sandwiches into guns. It's like, really? What is the world coming to?

Wow this makes me sick, this is so ridiculous to how pathetic the world has come to. I mean seriously? A toy gun it is considered a threat?? Really let's just throw the kid in jail why don't we. This leads into a much bigger problem with the world in my opinion. It can be little things like this or having peanut butter and jelly banned from school because some people are allergic to it, if you want to solve the problem then move them to a separate area for them to eat, it isn't fair that the majority should be punished from doing something just because a few people can't tolerate it. It is so ridiculous what it has come to. And then there are bigger things like religion....here are like so many religions out there but really we are all one people unified as a nation by God and we shouldn't split it into thousands of religions. It is sickening to hear silly stuff like this in everyday life, it is just so typical of America and the rest of the world now, it annoys me. A small lego gun to the bus? I f that is worth arguing over now then I can't wait to see what it will be like in the next 5-10 years when the world is filled up with more people, more beliefs and of course more conflict. This sort of stuff just seriously annoys me with the way we get over little silly things.

Wow, I guess schools are now becoming over protective. Maybe a lot of trouble has occurred before which made them like this.

That does happen. On an almost monthly basis.
But
The older kids are going berzerk on the teachers in many places.
Many High school students and parents even are going nuts on the instructors. (Fighting.)
Thankfully the news covers both where I am at.

The younger kids do not need to be suffering the misdeeds of the older variety.
Many things in schools are backwards today.

There can be solutions but I am not an expert. Nor want to be.
I am just smart enough to not have any kids while the schools are out of my standards.
I recommend the rest of you learn while the info is there and group up and figure out a way to make the grade for yourselves and make others proud of you.

Good Luck To All.
I'm done. Stick a fork in me.
Peace.

Wow this is new to me. I actually did a report about this and I've seen similar stories about this...

- Boy suspended for chewing a pop tart into a shape of a gun.
- Girl suspended for a Hello Kitty Bubble gun and saying to another student "you can shoot me and I can shoot you, that way both of us can use this."

I think most schools are just jumpy with the whole Newtown shooting, but I think the schools need to relax.

Actually I'm going to make a separate thread about schools banning kids for weird things. I bet a lot of people will be shocked by some of them.

I haven't heard about that but that is just stupid. I mean, come on, it's a little Lego! How could that hurt anyone? The USA has become so corrupt and stubborn. I think that one kid got suspended for farting too much. Wow, that is just sad. Why would you suspend someone for that kind of action? That is just so stupid. The kid should at least had gotten taken out of the room and be talked to. A little toy gun couldn't hurt anyone. The only thing it could hurt is maybe an ant if it landed on it. But that is pretty much it. I am so ashamed of the person that gave the kid a suspension. Totally stupid.

So much schools go crazy for protection because of all the actions mental people made to their schools.

Its pretty ridiculous that if that actually happened, but school boards just want their students to be safe.
I am not saying that this was the right decision but it happened...

I think it is less about what he did and more about the symbolism behind what he did, because if a kid feels like taking a lego gun to school at the age of six could he bring a real gun to school at 16? I know this seems a bit far fetched but thousands of people are killed every year in America with guns most of which are legally owned if not by the shooter themselves.

I haven't heard about it but I am not surprised by it either. Its called "frivolous lawsuits", and "overreaction" at work. Schools get sued over the littlest things that when something bad happens they overreact and will take drastic measures to protect their butts. So anything close to a gun now on schools is an immediate suspension now.

If you want to know a local example of frivolous lawsuits that cause reactions such as this, ill cite something that happened at a local high school a few years back. This girl decided to cut the last period of the day and join some of her friends in some "fun"(Note that she's not where she's supposed to be, which is in CLASS). They were walking along the railroad tracks that run by the back of the school. I forget if they were drinking alcohol or not but they were being stupid, that much is certain, because one of the friends of the girl decided to play chicken with an oncoming train. However, his foot got stuck or he wouldn't get out of the way(I forget what exactly happened). Anyways, the girl panicked and got the friend out of the way only to get hit by the train(and was killed instantly).

The parents of the girl sued the school and were awarded millions of dollars because the district didn't have a person manning the crossing. I viewed it as they were awarded millions of dollars for their daughter not being in class and being a complete dumbs***(pardon my noveau francais). In the aftermath of this ruling, the school closed the railroad crossing that a lot of students used as a shortcut to school(now they have to go quite a bit to go all the way around to the front) and public money went to pay for something that could have been better spent elsewhere.
